So... any bots?

Tip: you can press F11 in game (RA2) to take screenshot.

maybe learn how to use the attachment system (https://gametechmods.com/forums/site-news-and-feedback/how-to-use-insert-attachment/)

Alright, for the bot himself:

The flamethrower is exposed, maybe put it inside?

Maybe wheel could be a bit smaller.

Can you show us insides?

crop those screenshots buddy https://gfycat.com/FlamboyantHarmfulDowitcher

The basic bot design seems OK. You don't need that huge ass battery for a bot that size, I think a battlepack would do. You can use the extra space/weight for more air tanks to keep the flamethrowers going. Make sure you build to the weight limit, you have ~47kg spare for the MW class that you can use for more armour, weapons, drive, or whatever.

For the flamethrower bot, you should be able to mount the flamethrowers directly onto the baseplate, which will save weight and prevent them from getting knocked off. Three is excessive for a MW: you only need one, possibly two, otherwise you'll burn through your gas supply within seconds. You can use the leftover weight for some wheelguards.

Surge looks cool, if a little simplistic. I don't know how effective the weapon will be, but that much drive should give it some serious power. In terms of improvements, I can't tell whether it's invertible or not, so if it isn't, you've got weight for a srimech panel on the top. If it is invertible, just give it some more armour.

Finally, don't be so negative! We all have to start somewhere, and these bots are no worse than what 90% of first-time RA2 builders come up with. Just keep plugging away at it, and practising your building techniques, and you'll find yourself improving with each new build.

for the flamethrower bot i put the flamethrowers lower and removed one and then added wheel guards.

Those wheelguards on the flamethrower bot look a little flimsy, but I'm not sure what to suggest in terms of an alternate design. Maybe use an armour panel sticking out at an angle? Protip: use 10cm aluminium extenders instead of the anchors, they're smaller and they weigh less.

As for Surge, I think the srimech would look better if you used an armour panel rather than a tall stack of extenders. Incidentally, do you have the Complete Edition (https://gametechmods.com/forums/downloads/?sa=view;down=472)? It includes a bunch of coloured extenders and panels you can use to give your robots some extra visual flair.

Ok, few tips:

All axles must be supported in some way if they aren't directly attached to the motor (this means belted motors like the Perm 132, Perm 80 and Nightmare E-Tek.)

The stock baseplate anchors are a bit outdated. You can either use RA2CF and 10cm Aluminium Extenders, attaching them to the chassis directly to save weight, or use DSL 2.2 anchors (the steel-coloured 10cm cubes).

Multiextenders, while great back in the days of DSL 2.1 Standard, aren't used in IRL because they're ugly and usally major weakpoints.

For IRL, you need to attach supports for external motors at several points to the chassis so they look stable. A single multiextender won't quite do i'm afraid.

Also avoid using steel extenders where you can place armor plates that are generally tougher than extenders, and hold those plates with aluminium or titanium extenders.

Don't worry too much about the quality of your robots right now, you'll get better with time.

ok I think I've done better with the covers and removed the multi-exdenders.

Yeah, you could beef up that frame with some cross supports (see Tombstone's supports). You've also got more than enough weight left over for some wheelguards, and maybe some small pieces on its back to stop it getting stuck there.

It's 50 kg overweight for a cruiser and 150 kg underweight for a heavy. I'd say beef up the drive and maybe clean up the weapon.
Title: Re: Kelimpel's horrifying bots
Post by: F1Krazy on August 15, 2019, 04:32:58 PM
Definitely beef up the drive, four Astroflights is barely enough for a MW, let alone a CW or HW. If you don't have the chassis space then you might have to just rebuild it with a larger chassis. You also have too many batteries, just the two black ones (and maybe an ant) will be enough.
Title: Re: Kelimpel's horrifying bots
Post by: Billy5545 on August 15, 2019, 08:02:30 PM
For battery, yeah. All spin motors in RA2 consume the same power. Also, the bar looks disconnected being just slapped to the drum AP. I recommend you add another bar to the inner part of one of the bars, to make the whole bar look solid. Also, what is your chassis armor? Because the weight looks pretty heavy for a chassis of that size, as well as the drive you are using
Title: Re: Kelimpel's horrifying bots
Post by: Kelimpel on August 16, 2019, 07:53:07 PM
I have improved the drive removed the front batterys and used a flat motor for the weapon
p.s the chassis armour is 5m steel and the drive is npc motors (i think this better than the first?)

I'd say the Moros blade: it looks like it has better reach, and it's all one piece so you're not going to lose stability from having a part break off. Plus you've got the covers on the wheels now. (Any chance you could use smaller wheels, actually? I think you might have too much ground clearance right now, though it's hard to tell from these angles. Vlad wheels would fit the covers perfectly.)

The weapon clipping into the wedge is ok, as you can cut a slot in which the weapon goes through
Title: Re: Kelimpel's horrifying bots
Post by: F1Krazy on August 23, 2019, 05:46:58 PM
Deja vu? I'VE JUST BEEN IN THIS TIME BEFORE

...but seriously, why is the axe attached to a spin motor and not a burst motor? And why are there two of them, with slightly different starting positions?

Hop ninja'd me while I was typing this, but a weapon clipping through the wedge is fine, since IRL you could cut a slot in the wedge. I'm more concerned about the fact that if that weapon's hooked up to a spin motor, it's gonna rotate 360 degrees and clip through your battery, and that's not IRL.

Unfortunately, you actually do need batteries when building a flipper, because burst motors consume electricity every time they fire. And because the AI is dumb and fires the weapon at every opportunity, you're going to run out very quickly.

Sad times, also personally I'd use a flatmotor for the weapon, it weighs 1/5 as much as a TMWR2, and it's just as powerful.
to get it, type "cheatbot2" into the place where you name your bot.
Title: Re: Kelimpel's horrifying bots
Post by: Kelimpel on August 30, 2019, 03:47:31 PM
I've now put a flat motor into the robot instead of the TMWR2 the reason it has a drum on it is because if it didn't it would clip through the wheels so the drum is there to make it irl.

Post by: SagarisRA2 on August 30, 2019, 04:25:26 PM
Firstly, making the flatmotor higher up rather than using drums will save some weight. Speaking of the weight, it being at 295kg will make it stupidly light compared to other middleweights so wouldn't fair well, so either shred it down to under 249 for a LW or work up to 400kg for a MW.

Those spike strips are pretty ugly, try and find a prettier way to connect the hammers. And you don't need that many batteries, all spin motors draw the same amount of power. A couple battlepacks is more than enough, or a single black and an ant or two.

Errrm, what the? I'd suggest going with a normal drum setup with the drum attached directly to the flat

you need to build up to weight limit. that will need armor to handle impacts on the front.

I've improved the amor to titanium 5mm and lowered the power of the drive motors is it any better?

Well, it's better for armor, but it's too slow now... I guess you have a lot of weapon weight on that weightclass and that doesn't leave lots of weight for other categories.

And I meant external armor. You don't need that much rear/top/back sides armor.

Ngl the pictures youre taking are mostly not giving any info, as for the vert. If youre going for irl, the skirt is not allowed at all, and the moe bar is also not allowed iirc (idk if its a cb2 component), ant batts are useless, and the red battery is poking out of the chassis

I've removed the skirts in the front I have switched the moe bars with 259 discs and removed some of the ant batterys and put in more red batterys

TBH I find it more of a downgrade compared to the old version. It does have potential, just need to sort out two major issues.

1. Weapon Motor is pretty underpowered for a crusierweight, I’d suggest using 6 Mag mounted at a higher position, you may have to downgrade the drive, but it’ll still be fast regardless.

2. The individual bar itself provides little durability. The way it’s made makes it more easier to break off, not even a good damage output either. My suggestion would be a solid bar with weapons added on the ends or just keep the Moros blade.

I've put back the morors blade and given it a 6 mag motor it now has plastic 5mm and I turned down the drive motors
