if you aren going to use etecks as drive, use the ones made for drive.
npcs are fine for a mw

Use drive motors instead. What armor does it have?
Title: Jonzu95's DSL Showcase
Post by: Jonzu95 on June 01, 2009, 02:56:14 PM
umm... lemme think... it was Steel 3 or 5 mm.

I'm pretty sure the orange would be enough to power that lot, but they shouldn't be polycarbonate extenders, they break so easy, and under the realistic rule those wedges wouldnt really be allowed, am i right?

EDIT: You could lose some weight off that heavy armour.

That's not bad for a first DSL bot.

However, Eteks are only for weapon purposes... Drive Eteks are for driving purposes.

Anyways Etek drive is complete overkill on a MW flipper and IMO you don't even need Etek drive on ANY middleweight. Get NPC drive with Vladiator wheels, update these to Mag Snappers, and try to get 4-5 battlepacks in that.

As a general rule do NOT underpower (That is, having a total amp value provided by all of your batteries tinferior to the amp value drained by all of your motors) bots with active burst motor weapons like flippers, hammers or popups.

Also you can just use metal sheets for flippers... just make sure they touch the ground. They are stronger than your current flippers, as well as lighter and less big of a target.

However small wedges on burst motors like you have are the best wedges you can get in DSL and go under every other type of wedge if built well... so it's your choice.

Also, can you please convert your images into JPGs or PNGs. They are a lot faster to load.

EDIT: Naryar, snapper wedges with burst motors are not always better than other wedge types, even if well built.

I find that when weight becomes an issue that metal hinges are more efficent...

Correct. Metal hinges are a tad less effective than snapper wedges, but effective nonetheless.

For AWs and BWs, weight management is the key, so you don't need to slope the chassis unless necessary. Next, use Copals or Astroflights instead of Piglets. And you can use the multi-extenders instead of baseplate anchors. :D

What I recommend is a T-shaped chassis, with the wide end for the wheels and battery.

Also, try to visualize what you are building, and try to create a skin-tight chassis out of it. You'll more or less get the rough size of your bot.
Title: Jonzu95's DSL Showcase
Post by: takatsukiyayoi on June 03, 2009, 06:06:29 AM
Using Piglets for drive motors are a really bad idea, for almost half of the Piglet's weight you could use Copals and probably be able to go much faster. Also, you might want to use two ant batteries instead of a battlepack at this point since they are much lighter and at least as powerful if not more. You should probably also use a multiextender to attach the front weapon, without any other extenders unless you want more weapons, of course.

It appears to be fairly unique, but whether it's any good is another question.
I reckon you could get better weapons than that for less weight.
And I think those wheels are a bit too heavy for a bot that small.

Not really. See Hard Hat and Toxin Ant. :P

Anyway, try using a smaller chassis with slims instead of astros. You could make all the weapon heads face in a single direction instead since that would make it more efficient. :D

Thats just an uncommon rammer.

It's not even good because the weapons do not protect the chassis.

#2 is a MW...
Try not to use anchors in DSL, Multiextenders are lighter and have more APs.
Title: Jonzu95's DSL Showcase
Post by: somestrangeguy on October 16, 2009, 08:24:08 AM
On the last one, move the start position of the weapon motor higher so it doesnt start from inside the bot, and I belive that it would be better if the weapon motor was Mag Snapper and the wedge was BSG.
Title: Jonzu95's DSL Showcase
Post by: Naryar on October 16, 2009, 08:48:02 AM
#1:
-Use 3 ant batteries
-Use Long multi-extenders as it will be lighter than your current setup and invincible.
-Tribars fail, get a DSL bar instead

#2:
-Middleweight...
-Use 3 ant batteries
-Dont use aluminium extenders when you don't need the APs - aluminium skirts instead
-Still the best design out of these 3

#3:
-Not realistic
-Massive underpowerage
-Don't waste weight on a skirt hinge wedge when you already have a snapper wedge
-Clearly would be better with a BSG as wedge and Mag Snapper as weapon... but you might want to use only 2 BSG's and get more batteries.

for #3, I would drop the burst motor for the wedge.  I think it's AMP is going to count and hurt your weapon burst motor.  Just try a version with a Mag Snapper for the weapons and exactly 5 ant batteries, and see rather or not that deals more damage than the "clam".

If you must keep the clamming mechanism, downgrade your motor to astroflight, wheels to vlad, take out that red battery, and put in 5 ant batteries.

Use multi-extenders instead of anchors. I know they're hard to use, but trust me, they're worth the patience. Make the chassis narrower and if possible, place the Perm inside the chassis. With the extra weight, spend it on Vlads and better armor.

Team input:

LW: Use multi-extenders instead of anchors. I know they're kinda tough to work with, but they're worth your patience and you can attach stronger/longer sheets to it. And instead of using two extenders for the motor, just raise the ME and attach a flipper maker to it (more HP/kg) and attach your motor there. Same reach for less weight and more HP. If you still have some extra weight, use Vlads or upgrade the armor.

MW: Again, use MEs. and I think you can attach the motors directly to the MEs while still obeying the realistic rule. And be more conservative with the skirts and extenders. Attach skirts on metal hinges for wedges or add side trappers just like your LW.

HW: I don't really like E-Teks since they're bulky and weak, so try to use Perm 132s if you can. Also, you're gonna need frontal armor for fights against shell. And use metal hinges instead of skirts since there are a whole lot of wedgy HWs in NAR AI.

AW: Try to make the chassis the lowest level (if you can't put a NPC left/right, you got it) and try to fiddle around with the extra weight.

BW: Kinda too slow for my liking, and Y connectors are obsolete. And bear claws look cool, but they have normals. You might only attach in the forward direction, but you need some active defense against shell.

defiantly lighten your flipper arms and use BSG's

also try using angled shell panels or flipper segments off the aluminum extenders attached to the burst to protect it

right now the wedge feeds spinner robots straight to the bursts

With 6000 HP's, BSGs don't really need to be protected on lightweights.

14 ants... Maybe too much? xD

Yes. 6 are enough.

You definitely should move that JX forwards (See Urjak's Terminal Force) because here it counter-balances the bot and makes your wedge worse.

Form my observations:

ME>angler>another extender (I'm thinking aluminum)

But it's possible to attach the JX to just one ME.

Any Comments? :frown:

I missed that post.

Anyways, aluminium chassis armor fails (and 10mm is way too much), you could still move that JX forwards, just attach the same JX to a multi-extender so you save 3 kg (i think it is attached to an Alu extender and that Alu extender should be on a multi, but i might be wrong) and you should use a double metal hinge lower wedge for more wedginess.

What size JXRs are you using? I was able to fit two small JXRs on Vertical Impulse and still have fast drive so I don't know where you are wasting weight. Anyway, I think you want more flipping power for this bot.

New ? NEW ? That's a horribly underpowered T4 clone... and how does it flips so high without full power and only 1 beta ?

The HS is rather nice but you should use a smaller disc so you can add more weapon weight.

Flipperator 2 - T4 clone, underpowered too.

Dawn Collar - I don't think slimbodies are good for a MW. How does it do in battle?

Disk is a waste of weight.

Agreed.  I don't see the point of having all those panels on the disc like that. It makes it really heavy.  Without a wedge the bot is very vulnerable.  I would recommend ditching the panels, but then it would look like every other VS that seems to be manufactured for DSL these days.

I think people are not commenting because the bot is bland.  Nothing really special to be honest.  You are a great builder, so this is not a reflection of your building skill.

If you want a suggestion so you can keep working on this bot. I say ditch the panels and find a more effective way to cram moar light DSL teeth on that disk.

Also consider putting the drive motor inside the chassis.  NPC normal should be able to fit without moving the anchor points.

Actually, when it comes to light bots, there is no distinct 'best wedged bot'. However, from my tests, Nary's Karnivore seems to outwedge more bots.

Title: Re: Jonzu95's DSL Showcase

Minis will ruin the design. Just because it works on one bot doesn't mean it will work on another. Take a look at the drive placement. A good ram will cripple it. Rubbers are good, but I tend to use Vlads on this setup.

Why would it be cheating ? It's custom, but NOT better than most Ti or 3mm plastic.

I think by 'cheating' he meant that the 5mm alu used by Jonzu is better than the 5mm alu used by other members.

Why would it be cheating ?

who are you and what have you done with Naryar ?

its not DSL.. you can get away with different amour values due to its written in the bot file but its a better armor then others (as Pwn said)

have a mass mutual agreement for its use and have it allowed as a DSL patch then.

im not doubting everyone will not use it but as it stands now it has no place being in DSL until made official.

same as my patch for stocks 5kg extender.. many rejected it so it was dropped and removed from download.

It's only official if Click agrees to it. I don't see that happening. Maybe for DSL 3.

If you got weight left over, then put some external armors on it.

I don't think that's pr0n beneath the build box. Otherwise Jonzu wouldn't have finished the bot from fapping too much. :P

Also, the drive might be too slow for the wedge to be effective (Missile Test is an exception due to the heavy armor, but in this case it doesn't apply).

You could use an offset multi-extender and mount your motor on its side AP. You could shrink your chassis for that to gain weight for probably 5mm plastic (if you can squeeze out that much weight).

Woo.. Here is some Bots.

Hi FOTEPX!

I Also Tried to build my CCIV Entry... Popup is not very effective, Rammer is Rammer, And HS is Fragile.

One more thing...

Burning Desire ? BURNING DESIRE ? That's my name :rage

And you don't need more than a piglet on an ant.

The popup looks like it has a fail wedge. And too slow. The rammer is OK, and I bet the HS is going to get immobilized somehow :P

And the Popup is like Missile Test, but Cube Chassis...

is that a static wedge on the pop up?

Fire the weapons and the razors will cut through that flipper segment holding the tite sheet. Therefore, it's unrealistic.

On Cruel Reality, the flamethrower is too exposed (in DSL 2.1 i think it has standard HP), and it should be invertible.

Plus it's uuuuunnnnnddddeeeerrrrwwwweeeeeiiiiiiigggggghhhhhhttttt

And the razor tip rammer... you should just use skirt hinges to hold your razors, it would be lighter, plus T extenders suck.

Whhat's the wedge on Cruel Reality?

Metal hinge, he just attached it weirdly

MOAR RAZORS

Gyro Blaster has Skirt Hinge wedge. Look closely. :P

You are right... but I thought that was a static wedge because on these designs, static wedges are BETTER for stability that skirt hinges.

I'm not the best VS builder here, but I have built and failed enough of them to see how they work. You're going to go spikeball mode (tumbling around the arena) very soon :P
Title: Re: Jonzu95's DSL Showcase
Post by: NFX on November 10, 2010, 10:03:49 AM
I hope to god he doesn't. In my view, robots going into spikeball mode is a direct violation of the controlled movement rule in most tournaments. It's probably fine if it happens once, but it's not something that should happen during every single match.

I reckon, on Gyro Blaster, you might want to just have stabilizer arms out to the side, and remove the need for wedges altogether. 'Cause most popups are going to have metal hinge wedges anyway, they're going to go straight underneath.

Making the best DSL popup nowadays just means having the best wedge. Shame. :(

And you could always take out the rear skirts(and some side skirts) on the HS for stronger armor(or stronger drive, or a metal hinge wedge).

I think you should upgrade the drive on the top one. Maybe downgrading some of the sheets would help to get the weight? What about attaching the DSL bar straight onto the motor?

Identical to the 60kg hammer. Only slightly smaller.

I like the look of the top one, personally, even if it s a bit slow. Switchblade, to me, looks a bit TOO defensive. I reckon switching the tite sheet on the front just for some straight skirts, and maybe downgrading the lower skirts too, maybe for a couple of extra batteries.

My point. Apart from sacrificing more drive (silly), more wedges (also silly), more batteries (silly) or more armor (silly again).

On LW jugglers, 6 razors is standard issue and probably the best you can do.

Jugglers create a 'juggling' effect, hence the name. Orientation of the weapons don't really matter, as long as the motors face the top.

Jugglers have counter-rotating small spinners. TS have only one big spinner (aka gut-ripping HS with a wedge)

I only BFE the Control names onto my bots. But what you can do, if you don't fancy axle loading, is to wire a control to the skirt hinge, and attach a Behemoth Plow onto it. Have the skirt hinge point relatively downwards at the start of the motion, and as far up as you can by the end of the motion. Leave it at the end of the motion, and hover a halfsheet over it, then fire. The collision mesh on the Behemoth Plow allows you to do this fairly easily, and you should be able to wait until the skirt hinge is point downwards again, then attach the two fullsheets that you want.

That actually looks quite cool. I'm trying to think of how to get 6 razors on. I'd say put a smaller DSL Disc on, remove the side panel, swap to a poly extender, and drop to Tite 1. That'd get you 6 razors, but I'm not certain it'd be worth it. Perhaps switch to small beater bars and light DS Teeth.

3 razors, 1 empty, 1 razor 1 empty, 3 razors, 1 empty, 1 razor, 1 empty.
And the fixed version probably should be...
2 razors, 1 empty, 2 razors, 1 empty etc.

You shouldn't use static razors on SnS unless they're dedicated to having the maximum number of them possible.

Set it up like this: (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/41834spikes.png)

Then you will be able to add more spikes with all the saved weight.  Nothing wrong with carbon fiber extenders if they are in your chassis.  Hopefully it wont be too tall though.

Then I would change it so it has only one motor. Four motors on an efficient LW is pushing it on terms of battery requirements.

Also, not even enough weapons to be a killer. It's also quite a bit exposed against SnS and HS.

You might want to make it single-wedged as well.

It's 'teeth', not 'tooths'.

Also, the wedges could be lighter, imo.

I said "properly invertible", not "invertible". There's a difference. Most wammers and FSes are still invertible, but they're not properly invertible. :P

Cold Kodiak is very inovative.

Doesn't stops it from being an average design.

Laser Serpent is crap honestly, Pribham is the best of the bunch (but still doesn't looks particularly exceptional), and the katana one is probably a bad fighter.

Not bad, though I would consider swapping the TWMR3 for a Piglet, largely because you get 20 times the HP with it. If you drop to a hexplate and get 6 Light DS Teeth on it, I think you could get away with that if you swap the control board as well.

FOTEPX is right, a piglet is far more durable than a TWMR and not all that much slower (for a BW you really don't need the weapon to go that fast). The bot in general looks a little unstable, but with your wedge design there might not be all that much you can do. either way I would recommend you stay with Beater Bars because they are resilient and for the sake of the wedge it would probably be best you don't lose weapon to quickly.
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: FOTEPX on April 13, 2011, 09:41:05 AM
Fine, we'll get a fair balance. Get a piglet with a hex plate and 6 medium beater bars on there.

Post by: Scorpion on April 13, 2011, 09:51:42 AM
6 Razorz on a hex plate with a piglet would be your best bet here really.
6 medium beaters would mean sacrificing something that doesn't need to be, 6 razorz though you could do easily without compromising anything else.

It's just gay spikeball mode, it goes to bounce all around the combat arena and attacks the top of the bots. Most NAR AI bots aren't supposed to be attacked by the top.

Especially that you can do rather large hits with such a weapon.

Angle each leg a notch outward. Ditch that crappy DSL bar stabilizing thingies. 120cm angled alu/tite sheets would do. Add a sheet to the end of each leg (to whatever the max_sphere could take you).

That said, if you really wanna go and use Discord's theme, you should probably go wild by using different but equally massed components for each side.
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects

Wider stance and longer front extenders angled more forwards than you have them now.

I also don't like that you only have two 70kg hammers. You need more weapons.
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: NFX on September 19, 2011, 09:30:57 AM
The rear stabiliser stuff is a huge waste of weight. Get a wider and longer stance, and that should hugely help its stability.
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: Naryar on September 19, 2011, 02:55:10 PM
Get better stabilizers overall. They are really messy right here.

Also, you cannot expect stability from one of these glass cannon, superpowered VS designs. It's just made to fly away when it hits something at high spinspeeds.

Id use angled kirts instead of the flipper extender/skirt combination, that should free up... about 3KG each.

6Kg so far.

I'd use a TWM3R instead of that massive thing, or a perm 80, if it's not one of those already.

Id rid that frontal protection for a lightweight option (Carbon fiber extender with a polycarb skirt attached to it's side.)

sorry about all the typos, I'm a bit tired :/

And it's good to see something else than judge bursts on a vaguely IRL-ish bot. (I'm talking about the flipper, of course)

Yup, it just uses Judge gavels instead...  :trollface

Maybe you should use Hworf spikes for a similar look, but without making the bot overpowered.

Looks alright. I'd try to get the skirts pointing outwards, to get a wider gap between the leading edges. You could remove the alu extenders, and maybe swap the Flippermakers holding them on for poly extenders, or CF ones at a stretch. Would let you add some Light DS Teeth on the end of the Beaters for some more damage capabilities. =)
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: MassimoV on December 13, 2011, 04:03:10 PM
Would deffinetly make the extenders wider. Looks great though.
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: TeamXtreemer on December 13, 2011, 04:36:51 PM
Maybe, instead of using Alu/Titanium(Whichever) Extenders, Use Polyarbs and Use Carbonfibers to connect the astros, that'll add more stability and it will get flipped less often (not necessarily flipped by a flipper, maybe by a vs, wedge... etc).
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: Naryar on December 13, 2011, 06:53:01 PM
Seems like the wedge will get in the way of the weapon.

Also seems to me that you can't outwedge anything with such a thing...

That extender work is a bit sloppy as well. I do believe you can make it lighter.

First, I apologise that I promised to build 10 bots, but I only managed to build 2, and the other (DSL BW hammer) Failed miserably. I just don't have time to build robots all the time.

Anyway, I did update my robot, removed the aluminum extenders and sheets, and added plastic sheets to the Flippermakers. Also wheels are now small, and added 2 teeth to beaters and changed the armour to plastic 3. Can't send picture thanks to my stupid parents who don't let me use computer on wednesdays.

I've decided to start building ALL Finnish Flea, Ant & Featherweight bots. (150g, 450g & 6kg) I probably told the weightclasses wrong, but my bad. :P

Anyway, I build a bot what I would make to 150g class:

Do like. I'd personally move the outer razors from the alu extenders to the inward-facing edges of the hexplates, so they overlap and give more protection. Very nice design, though, reminds me of Crab Salad a little bit. Nice splash work, too. =P

If you had it so that all the razors hit the opponent at the same time it would do a little more damage.

Toss the irons and stick on large beaters instead. Get the stabilizers on MEs rather than metal hinges.

I like the weapon setup.
Title: Re: Jonzu's DSL Projects
Post by: HurricaneAndrew on February 27, 2012, 04:22:13 PM
I feel that weapon setup is asking for trouble...

Think about it... If you lose an iron or two the whole thing will bounce around uncontrollably, but with beater bars the bouncing will be much less violent.

Or maybe I just think that makes sense since I haven't built a VS in so long.

Dude, that's at least 140kg per Perm. Which is more than 350kg spent on the weapon system alone.

Indeed, it's a good weapon system... just looks a bit fragile, and it's probably going to be quite unbalanced when it loses weapons.

What's the point if he isn't going to come back?
You may as well be talking to a brick wall.
You're in the main forum, so give it a rest and stay on topic and discuss the bot.

Irons on the bot are worse that beaters, so I'd replace them personally.

Stabilisers on Metal Hinges are going to bounce like one of my dad's jacket potatos. Mount them on ME's, and use skirts instead of DSL Bars. They're a heck of a lot lighter for almost the same HP. Use the weight saved from that to swap the Halfsheet (they're only really useful for underside protection & mounting stuff from thereafter) for a plow, maybe Medium, but preferably Heavy. Switch the extenders to Polycarb ones too, the opponent's aren't really going to get to them.

Ah, that's quite clever- gives it a realistic appearance of weight that's still decipherable in RA2   :approve:

Personally, what I do is I move the decimal point of the regular weight one number forward, so that say, 800.0kg in RA2 would be displayed as 80.00kg- it's a good way of simulating realistic weight, I think    ;)

Few notes

- Not sure should I keep the extenders at the back. They are just for the looks, and the discs are supposed to work like srimech-stylish.
- I admit, large beaters makes it look ugly. I guess I'll shrink them and see if I get any ideas for more weaponry, or maybe I'll just get stronger armor.

Double the beater load, get rid of the crap in the back.

I like the use of Ripping Teeth as fangs, perhaps. I think this would be better as a front-hinged flipper myself, but then that would require custom components. Depending on how much weight you have left, you could use a Skirt hinge to get the teeth at a lower angle to help with self-righting.

Not really. Anyway, I made few updates. Since 1mm Titanium was too weak, I switched to larger JX Burst, 5mm Steel, added few ants and now it's a Middleweight. Weight about 397 kilos.

Happy birthday! On the robot, I think the skin is cool, it could use some scratches on the front wedge. The axe head is neat but I think the swing arc should be further back. Overall it's really nice.

its still generic. as in, i built a robot like that a week or 2 ago, except mine was wider and had more weapons.

that said, you should know that half sheets are wholesale garbage apart from bottom protection, so i would suggest something wider. something like 2 angled sheets on a skirt hinge, or firestorm flippers if you want to deal with their retarded AP.

But seriously, surely you could try getting at least a mag. The chassis looks kinda big, could be wrong, but you could cut that down for some weight

I had mag in the beginning, but I switched it to piglet so I could get stabilizers to the back.

I'm just happy this showcase has more posts and it's not a generic flipper or VS.

About the bot I feel you could make it stabler by making a wide, very angled chassis instead of using components, and i'm quite sure the larger chassis will not weigh 24 kgs more.

Maybe you can fit a mag on that after that.

You are both younger and considerably less competent in building than Martymidget. Stop trying to look tough.

I wouldn't say less competent. I haven't built much for a long time, that's all.

If you are doing screenshots you can not have the game in full screen you have to have it windowed.

I think it has to do with the aspect ratio, if I remember correctly. Same goes with exporting chassis textures, you can only do it if you reduce your aspect ratio a bit. Mess around with that and see if you can get it to work.

Yeah its having it in fullscreen for sure, ive had the same result. Sometimes it will even screenshot your desktop instead.
Its a pain but just switching to windowed mode for pictures will work fine.

Not bad, although the skin is a bit too garish for me. I like the way you've put the finnish flag on the back though.

I think the flipper would look a bit better if you redo the tips

It's got a sorta Gravity vibe to it, I dig it. I think the flipper would look better if it was wider and flatter though. Also that skin is burning my eyes.

i get the finnish flag, but then theme the rest of the bot around colors that are close to blue and white please

I'd advise some SABotage-style crossbars on that flipper, to make it look more rigid.

0,5 kg each... that's heavy as sh** for a LED.

i would use them in irl, I guess, or if they were 0.1 kg.

Still nice.

about the bot : too much batteries, not enough weapon weight. also, yes, it's Lock Nut but prettier and less good in battle.

i assume it is IRL though

Welcome back, broseph.

Razors/Irons are incredibly nerfed by the fact that weapons with normals have DP through the roof. I recommend replacing all the razors with axe heads, and because you (should) have a copy of RA2CF, it should be pretty easy.

Oh yeah, that's another thing - half-plates covering the bottom of your robot don't work any more. You need to use the new, thicc DSL 2.2 armour plates

Were they really nerfed that bad in DSl 2.2? And why do half plates no longer work?

As for the bot, it looks surprisingly small for a HW but that's just like the stock bots, all those fancy weapons taking the weight.
Was going to mention this before, but other users did. Looks like it's food for plow hammers and popups, having extra protection on the top and bottom sure would help(and not just a small plate, most likely titanium since polycarb doesn't seem to last too long, unless you want to increase it's DPS.)

I disagree with @090901 however, having side armor can help when getting thrown around by spinners/slow turning(which your bot seems to have, guessing how the wheels are very close to eachother) back armor can be good if your bot gets flipped, so that's definitely not useless but might need a little downgrade to titanium.

No, extenders are terrible for armour as they have a poor HP per KG. There is a reason why armour plates, skirts, and etc exist. He's probably used more in weight for the extenders than he has for weapons.

Pretty sure he just showcased this to get me to show him my challenge bot, so he could counter it. He told me this was his challenge bot but he submitted a hammer :P

Anyway, what the others said. Not much you can do with rammers tho, they get raped 99/100 times by anything with a wedge. You wasted an ungodly amount of weight on extenders too

Guess that's true, best would still be to put on armor but idk if there's height for that with that design. Also I'm not 100% sure if using the super light carbon fiber extenders or aluminium would be good, other components still seem to get shock damage so having your armor fall off because of weak extenders isn't what you want.

Yep, much better to use weapons with normals now, except in certain circumstances.

Half plates no longer work because... something something collision meshes.

Half plates haven't changed at all from DSL 2.1. They are still the same where you can't use them with a minimum height chassis

I know, I'm on about the protection they offer - from what I've experienced, using them as bottom protection is no longer viable, for whatever reason - armour plating is the only thing that seems to work. Test it for yourself, and let me know the results.
