Title: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 27, 2010, 11:36:30 PM

Bot is called "Constr.Nr.5"

It has a 3 mm titanium armor and weights 794,3 kg ..
Some parts like the "AU Burst Motor 2" or the "Cold Fusion Reactor" are 2 replace if you would say its cheating :-)
But this version (I also tryed 2 Snappers e.g.) is just more fun ...
The weakness of the bot results anyway in the wedges in the front which are not the very best - It often gets flipped out of the arena by "Smashbox 2" for example ...

as you can see i´m new at this forum and years ago i played ra2 stock vers. but i´m playing dsl since 2 weeks -> so i´m happy about nice corrections

Try to stay away from angle connecters. (they aren't very strong) instead use the flipper segments or side attachment points on extenders.
Try to stay away from cheat parts. (I know it is more fun) I got chewed for using them as well.
I think you could run that off of 3 ant batteries if you aren't using a burst motor. I know it doesn't sound right but it works.
Try mounting your motors inside the chasis to save weight.
You might want to use more weapons. (I don't know if those will last long enough)
Also if you can come up with the weight try I think they are called door hinges for your wedges.

Welcome back.

welcome back?

that's pretty good for a newbie, shrink the chassis

thanks for your reply
i guess you´re right about the cheatparts - but i´m not sure which they are actually - the reactor and the burst motor ?

the gag about this robot is he doesnt need more weapons cos the flamethrowers lay behind the armor sheet (although its only carbon kevlar at the moment)

thx a lot
yeah at the moment i also think it could be downsized again- but then i couldnt replace the burst motors ...

i see custom parts, NEVER use custom parts in your DSL or stock showcase only in custom part showcase

...It's kinda... random ?? (But hopefully it doesn't fails unlike some other newbie's first bot)

Anyways, you might want to look at this.

Wel, you have the gripy wheels down, try shrinking the chassis and using multi extenders instead of baseplate anchors. They're a pain to use but smaller and lighter.

thissis the next version of my bot
i only used standard parts now
i used 5 mm steel armor and it still weights 784kg :-/

the flipper could be a bit more powerful and i didnt find a way to flip it over again when it lays on the back (using only batteries) - stupid bug
plz any hints ?
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: SKBT on March 28, 2010, 06:30:40 PM
Try using burst motors instead of pnuematic rams. The JX large is pretty strong. Also I think 5mm Steel is overkill I dont know though.

Post by: Ineptus on March 28, 2010, 06:35:44 PM
will i need stronger batteries then and which ones ?
and what 2 do with the weight remaining - any ideas ?

Don't use stock parts in DSL. Also, use metal hinges.

Post by: Ineptus on March 28, 2010, 06:45:24 PM
oh i didnt know it must completely be dsl -
which are the stock parts ?

The parts that come with the regular RA2.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase

maybe he does not HVAE stock?????

they are the parts with blue backrounds.

Post by: somestrangeguy on March 28, 2010, 07:01:08 PM
Actually I think that the Fire Extinguiser part is a custom component, wich is basically super powered Stock Large Air Tank.

Sparkey, the ones with blue outlines are the DSL parts. Rest are either Custom or Stock.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 28, 2010, 07:10:29 PM
so using stock parts in dsl is cheating ?

and which co2 bar would you prefer ?
i must admit i dont see any one else  :ermm:
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Somebody on March 28, 2010, 07:17:11 PM
Stock in DSL isn't cheating, its just downright dumb. The stock parts have much worse stats then the DSL parts. Although things like Iron spikes, maces, and razor tips are updated and still included in the pack.
Obviously you didn't install it right because you still have the stock parts. Try downloading a whole version from Sage's sig.

nono - everything is set alright - dsl screen when loading - dsl music :-)
i must have downloaded to many custom things thats why myself is so confused

i´ll be using a dark co2 tank then and battlepacks batteries - right ?
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 28, 2010, 08:24:04 PM
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/63611constr.bmp)

3 mm titanium armor
3 battlepack batts
3 mini co2 dark tanks
7 flame spikes
1 storm piston for finisher
2 big jx for flipping

works well - but is there still any forbidden component ?
thx for answers

Comment from building real bots. Try to stick to one or 2 weapon systems. The more weapons you have the more the bots weight gets divided between each weapon and then something has to give armor, drive, battery, weapon affectiveness. So basicly I think one great weapon is better than 2 mediocre ones. Just something to think about when building a bot.

But about the bot. Looks like it scores high damage points with the flame throwers. Try to work on building a bot that is invertable instead of having a flipper to self-right. You will save weight and be able to have better drive weapons ect.

The dark tank is a "forbidden component".

Keep building and have fun :)

which tank to use then ?
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 28, 2010, 09:57:03 PM
wise words
ill try building a flamethrowing bot which is invertible - which can drive on both
sides ..

did the community somehow declare a wedge to be the best one ?
only found something about that in an FAQ of 2008 :-/
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: SKBT on March 28, 2010, 10:22:29 PM
which tank to use then ?

puma co2 tank

Also you might want to use the edit button instead of double posting. It annoys some other people here.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 28, 2010, 10:30:23 PM
oh i think we mean the same one
dark co2 tank with the "puma" on it available in 3 sizes

edit: smiley addet
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: SKBT on March 28, 2010, 10:33:47 PM
if it is the blue one yes.

Edit: I see no dark tank in the most resently posted bot. So I guess it is name confusion.

(out of topic)
are there currently some online matches ?
ra2 united hatachi is obviously full ..

edit:

it is 3 times the mini version visible in the picture downright
(and sry me for the pictures but i have no mousewheel to zoom atm. :D)

Stock in DSL isn't cheating, its just downright dumb. The stock parts have much worse stats then the DSL parts.

Untrue for some of the components, but generally yes.

You might want to download a clean DSL version from Sage's sig so you won't have cheat parts.

I second this, the Flame Spikes you used on that bot are custom parts wich are counted as cheating.
The BFFF Flamethowers you have on the sides are normal DSL parts.

You should really install a clean version from Sage's signature, it will not tempt you to use cheat parts.
BTW Happy B-Day Sage

here it is - although i dont like it very much
invertible - but doesnt do so much damage with the new (ten) flamethrowers

flipper also doesnt work properly

did i use the right battery ?

thx
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Sparkey98 on March 29, 2010, 03:34:47 PM
give it smaller wheels, NEVER use slims, unless your me, or FB, we can somehow get them to work.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: SKBT on March 29, 2010, 03:38:31 PM
First problem. Your bot is Unrealistic. Unrealistic means parts pass through each other. Your burst motor is going through your battery. That is not allowed.

You could do better with more battery power. For flipper drive.
The reason your flipper isnt working is you have two connected to each other. this doesnt work in RA2.
Try to use different wheels. There are better choices. Stronger grippier.
Lower your flamethrowers use them as armor.

I cant help much more without the weight and armor.

Those large panals look like cheat parts

Check out other peoples showcases for ideas and insparation. It will help with designing. There are simpler ways of building something like this.

I built a duble DDT flipper fine
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: SKBT on March 29, 2010, 03:42:54 PM
There are better ways to build flippers. The BioHazard replica uses that setup and it isnt the best flipper around in RA2. (Don't argue here and spam Ineptus's thread please)

I'm not arguing, just saying
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 29, 2010, 03:54:31 PM
yes although i used fast motors he isnt as powerful which is caused by the bad grip i guess
i´ll try to use smaller ones with motors in the middle of the chassis

do you know any working flamer bots ?
i liked the idea that the flamers are behind the armor shell (which is also kind of unrealistc)

but which batteries would you suggest ?

Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: SKBT on March 29, 2010, 03:57:08 PM
Big black one if it fits. If not more of what you have if you are keeping the burst motors. Otherwise you need one Ant per spin motor.

here the next version

-fast motors
-796,4kg
-5mm aluminium
-snapper2motor +aluminium angle wedge works satisfying
-12 flamethrowers
-no cheatparts

critics desired again :->

Use a metal hinge instead of a skirt hinge and use Techno Destructo wheels if they fit.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 29, 2010, 06:27:22 PM
did u mean to use a metal hinge for the wedge ?
 :idea2:

and the destructo wheels are unfortunatly to small because of the throwers
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase

Yes. The door hinge thingy.

BSGs are better than mag snappers.

These failblades ant sawblades aren't doing much as well, and it's underpowered.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 30, 2010, 10:04:44 AM
thx i´ll try them

the blades are because i had weight left
one also needs something to do kind of a finishing strike because the throwers just lower energie
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Pwnator on March 30, 2010, 10:15:31 AM
Instead of using so much flamers, use a weapon rack near the flamers so the flippers can actually help with the damage.

One piece of general advice (and something that other users have got on me for): Change your picture format to either a .PNG or .JPG. Those with lower speed connections can't process the MB+ pictures nearly as well as others.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Naryar on March 30, 2010, 11:04:56 AM
Yes you had some weight left over, but it's not a reason to fill it with fail weapons that aren't even enough on a BW an dwill barely touch the opponent.

A few hammers at the front of your bot does wonders though.

works fine

with 3mm titanium armor
14 bfff´s
2 fast motors
2 dsl hammers a 45kg
destructo wheels
2 ant batteries
4 mini co2 tanks
2 skirt hinges (metal hinge moves to the wrong side of the bot during fight sometimes,
or in the beginning the wedge sinks into the ground)
no cheatparts and realistic bot

Looks alot better.

You don't need rear armor. The AI bots don't attack the back. It is part of the programing. I'm not sure why.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase
Post by: Ineptus on March 30, 2010, 07:12:58 PM
fine

i had also multiplayer in sight but there r only standart stock parts allowed right ?

In DSL you can use DSL parts. It's modded so you can.
Title: Re: Ineptus' DSL Showcase

I personally would remove a flame thrower or two to get metal hinge wedges.

Better, but 14 flamers on a HW is really overkill.

Change the 4 mini gas to 2 large, both hold the same amount of gas, but one cost 40kg while the other cost 28kg.
