Title: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: ianh05 on March 31, 2009, 06:06:56 PM
so with talk about BBEANS 6 i decided to finally get into dsl. it's gonna take some time to get use to so any help would be great.

here's my first dsl lw:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/77091New Bitmap Image.JPG)

it's basically a lw juggler. i still haven't figured out how to get the wedges attached to each other like Mako >.<

But i think that he need a better skin :)

Your best bet is to browse the showcases here and look for designs you like, then try to replicate them. This will help quite a bit in getting a feel for DSL.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, DSA armor doesn't work in DSL

If that's DSA I'm seeing, you need to change it. Even the 1 mm plastic armor is superior, if I remember correctly.

Post by: ianh05 on March 31, 2009, 06:53:49 PM
yep i changed it to steel 1 and i have had a look at a few dsl showcases for some ideas.

Post by: R1885 on March 31, 2009, 07:01:02 PM
Even so, its not a juggler, its more of a hybrid of a FS and a TS.
Steel is not that good, I find that 1mm tite works best on LWs.

If he had left over weight he can't use for anything else, it is best to go for the strongest armor possible, no matter what the type.

Mako Wedges are on Hinges.
Title: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: Urjak on March 31, 2009, 07:56:39 PM
I always thought they were on axle mounts.

Post by: Naryar on April 01, 2009, 03:32:52 AM
Overpowered. You'll be fine with 2 or 3 ant batteries.

...And where's the control board ?!? I'm sure you can fit a blue one in there (lighter than the tiny green one)

And R1885 is right. 1mm Ti would be a good choice on this one with all your spinner shell panels for armor.

Post by: Somebody on April 01, 2009, 06:07:31 AM
Axle Mounts, Hinges, whatever it is, it is on a hinge/mount that is probably 90 or 180 degrees.

better look at the 3rd one in the pic, all results were AI vs AI:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/89044dsl lw 1.JPG)

it's invertible too.

I'm Working on a large lw VS at the moment, hopefully have it completed (stable and all) soon :)

oh tough crowd, time for my 3rd post in a row..

more results with a few battle shots, all AI vs AI of course:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/33702New Bitmap Image (3).JPG)

won all matches without getting a scratch on the chassis :)

what would make a good match up for this lightweight?

i think your PA skirt is a little high. might be an issue for invertibility.

Also, most of the replicas aren't really dangerous. Fight something like 360 Arc Pounder, and the other decent AI DSL LW's (you can even take on the MW's if you feel confident).
Title: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: ianh05 on April 17, 2009, 05:11:52 AM
it has defeated 360 arc pounder (i'll get a pic soon), in BBEANS 2 arena which is where i have been testing my lws. trying it against some mw's could be fun.

we need a dsl ai pack imo, or maybe someone would like to send me some lws to test against? ;)

oh and the PA skirt is perfect as it is, i've been watching it destroy a number of bots while upside down.. the weapons act as a grinder on the top of other bots when it's running upside down.

cool i think i'm getting the hang of DSL now :) and yeah it does, best thing about it is it has no real weakness.. except i can't find any good dsl pop-ups to test it against. it's pretty durable and can get a lot of points really fast (can get over 25000 points which isn't too bad for a lw).

I'm working on a whole lot of new designs, all lws of course.

top left was more a joke then anything, it annoys the heck out of rammers xD the rest do pretty well in combat.

I'm also announcing that Tag Team Challenge 2 will be DSL lws, don't ask me when i plan to start the tourney cause i have no idea.. trying to recover from the flu at the moment.

I'm currently looking for ways to improve it.

Hammers OK. How well powered is it? Can't be any worse than a AW pop-up I build last night.

Also, take your time, most of us are in no hurry.

i think it has 2 ant batteries for power, anyway i made some adjustments to make it more stable etc. it's now called micro scorpion cause of the way it looks (top left robot in pic). i also made a couple of new AW's.. here's what i got:

battle shot of micro scorpion:

haven't tried to AI them yet.

my AW drill is a lot better now, stronger external armor and a more powerful weapon motor:

beat all other 3 DSL aws i have on the game (micro scorpion, nanowhirl and terminus) in AI vs AI matches.

i have built many DSL lws now, and testing with MikeNCR's lws to find a killer combo for TTC2. flawless victory (lw3) gets beaten everytime against this VS... however the VS loses to my poker.

ty ty, it's only plastic but hopefully the other bots won't get to touch it :P it beats all the other aw's i have (usually a coin flip between most my aws).

the poker is very effective, it usually gets under other aws and pokes the undersides O.o

i would post vids but i have lost Fraps :(

built a new dsl LW today :) it's a Wammer with flail razors so on impact when the bot goes over it the razors also go up and possibly hit under the other bot.

2 ants, titanium 3, npc fast drive.
Title: Re: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: Pwnator on July 10, 2010, 12:32:03 AM
NPC+Vlads would probably be better for this due to higher HP, but I'm not sure if it's just as fast as NPCF+Shinies.

It's quite a cool design, but you should try to find another setup so it's invertible. :D
Title: Re: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: Sparkey98 on July 10, 2010, 12:58:16 AM
I would say try to raise the NPCs an use vlads.

Would that be correct, Mr PWN?
Title: Re: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: JoeBlo on July 10, 2010, 01:01:03 AM
that could work but it would still get stuck on its face

the top panel + tooth needs to go for invertiblity

Depends, really. If I'm right, I think it's using an axle wedge. Drive height doesn't matter much when it comes to axle wedges.

But it's still nice advice. :P

Post by: Sparkey98 on July 10, 2010, 01:21:06 AM
Man why does my d key keep doing that, I practically have to hammer the thing.

Anyway, I'm trying to think of a way to offset the front to it's can't get stuck.

Maybe put metal hinge wedges?
Title: Re: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: Sparkey98 on July 10, 2010, 01:34:49 AM
All I can think of is an angle Iron pointing up from the bottom just jutting out so it won't balance
Title: Re: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: ianh05 on July 10, 2010, 01:44:28 AM
i really wanted the top protection so it does OK against hammers, i need a rear stabilizer so it doesn't flip on impact then it should be fine. I'm hoping the wedge will be good enough to not have to worry about making it invertible.

v2 looks to skeleton, like you built it all but didnt have the weight to fill it up with Armour pieces

the wedge on v3 is the most practical

It's nice to see you building again!  I don't have much to say about the juggler, unlike the VS.

Using Piglet motors for drive is a bad idea; it'd be better to use Astroflights or Slimbodies.  To improve on the spinner setup, I suggest decreasing the space between the two motors (by mounting them in front of the chassis or narrowing the chassis).  That way you can use a smaller side panel.  You could also use a shorter aluminum extender so your weapon would have more reach.

Give it those improvements and I'll be happy.

Rather than side panel, I suggest mounting beater bars on the disk sideway.

That, and I think it's unrealistic atm.
Title: Re: Ianh05's DSL showcase.
Post by: ianh05 on July 14, 2010, 09:40:29 PM
yeah i was thinking about using an extender or beater bar instead, will try that. how doesn't it appear realistic? nothing passes through any other part (unlike the FB Drum) and I used no stacking.
