Title: H@zm47's DSL Showcase
Post by: H@zm47 on October 13, 2008, 12:50:14 AM
May as well start up a DSL Showcase.
I've been playing DSL a lot more than stock recently (most tourneys at the moment have used DSL for some strange reason) and have come up with some pretty good designs IMO. One of the was my RAW entry Archimandrite V but I won't post pics here (unless they are requested) because most of you have seen it already. So my first bot on this showcase will be:

FALCON PUNCH!!
Sorry for the crap splash...

The name was inspired by this demotivational poster:

In short all I've done is taken Sage's Pinball and made it invertible (like Haymaker). KO's most DSL AI and surprisingly doesn't appear to be under powered despite only having 2 of those long black batts for power.

And for a second bot:
FRANCIUM
Another crap splash...

One of my crazy ideas to see what would happen if Infernal Contraption 2 and Shebeast found a way to mate. It's one of my better bots and I wish I could have built it before RAW (see splash).

I've AIed both these bots and they both do quite well AIed however I can't get Falcon Punch to spin like Pinball does in RAW so any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Comments and feedback accepted :)

InfCon's genes do NOT allow 30% empty space!

For making Pinb...eh sorry Falcon Punch to spin, just have a look at the bindings of another SnS, and perhaps in the bot lab because it may have a huge smartzone.

Right you are I'm reworking the chassis now...

I looked at the bindings of 360 Arc Pounder and changed FALCON PUNCH's accordingly and now it works fine. Thanks.

EDIT: Naryar, is this better?

Naryar, how do figure out how much % of open space there is?

Somebody: Feeling, and my eyes mainly.

H@zm47: Great. But it is underpowered. Theorically you should add another orange batt. And I'll add a balancing rear plastic skirt (like InfCon) if I were you.

Ahhh... I was going to ask what that back skirt was for.
Well you've saved me the trouble of asking.
Would the balancing skirt replace the srimech or help it? I noticed InfCon lacks a srimech so I don't know whether to to ditch mine or not.

EDIT: I decided to ditch the srimech and strengthen the armour to 5mm Titanium (it was 3mm before)

V3 looks like this:

5mm titanium is too much. I made the same mistake.

Get 3mm, add good side skirts (like Psi), and sufficient power (a little more than two orange batts), and i won't be able to help you anymore because it'll be better than InfCon then.

It is possibly better now, that said- and it has visibly less empty space.

EDIT: the back skirt is kinda anti-flipping device - and prevents InfCon from tipping over easily if a bot gets under it/he crashes into something.

_________

Have a look at SlashBack too, it is similar to my two Contraptions on wedge and drive type.

_________

BTW: did you get under Archimandrite V head-on and first try?

Hmm. good idea. however, it may not LOOK underpowered, but i bet it doesnt spin NEARLY as fast as with 4 orange batts, and thats also why you cant get it to spin like pinball. Unless you mean it doesnt spin at all, in which case you programmed it wrong. If using 'Pillar.py', make sure you have a 'Spin' control as a button.

I guess copying Pinball is just in these days...

the FS looks pretty sweet, but I'd add some angle wedges to widen it, but i dont know really.

Sage: I got Falcon Punch to spin now. I just copied the Binding of 360 Arc Pounder and modified a few values. It works fine. You're right about spin speed though, it could be faster after just seeing Pinball fight (Did you seriously fit 4 orange batts in there? I don't think I can manage that and keep FP invertible...).

Nope, Francium copped 2 hits at least before getting in around the side of Archy V (turning isn't his strong point) and pushing him around for a while. (I'm a terrible driver BTW so that's why I AIed him and many other bots I've built. So I don't do much in terms of driving.)

I have looked at the wedge design from Slashback only because I assumed that's where InfCon's and HazCon's wedges were inspired from. I shall weaken the armor back to 3mm and add more wedges but it won't be done until the weekend as I'm back at school now :(

Exactly.

Didn't get under Archy? Well, a defeat for dual wedges, but it's not over yet... HazCon went under DOAM head on, that said.

yea 4 orange batts. im thinking i could modify it to be invertible. ima go try after i record the loser bracket matches...

EDIT: FRAPS, the game recorder, slows down the speed of the match. Pinball is spinning a lot faster then that.
Title: My ELBITE entry
Post by: H@zm47 on October 24, 2008, 04:19:58 AM
AHHHH!! KIDS!!!
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/9649SOF splash.jpg)
These are my latest creation that I am quite proud of. They will be my ELBITE entry and I am currently working on the Bindings for them. The splash says 3mm Titanium, I think the tabletop version has 5mm Titanium though. I just felt an urge to make a MW Francium and then turned it into 3 when i remembered I hadn't done much in the way of an ELBITE entry. There isn't much difference between King of the Hill version and 1 on 1 version (mainly weaponry) so I'm not sure whether to enter all 3 or just 2 of them.

Comment pls :)

EDIT: I've also made an upgrade to Falcon Punch. He now has 2 orange batts in there.

HazCon must have seriously more empty space than this. Nice job. I'ts a good build.

Won't be as efficient as my beloved juggler, although you should still get a few wins with it.

That's what I'm hoping Naryar.
It never occurred that I should have probably looked at HazCon's internals before starting this build, but the way it came together so easily I figured I should just do it the way I thought it should go instead of following what others have done...

I'm working on a new version of Francium to include in my team for your AI pack as well. I would preferably like to keep it secret until the pack's release, however...

DP BUT I DON'T CARE!

This is the secret version of Francium that I'm working on for Nary's AI pack and I just tested it against ATOM and it WON!! (https://gametechmods.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

I still can't believe it either...

Haz, I didn't mention it (yet should have), but ATOM's designed "Achilles' heel" is it's chassis. If you can get at it,... past all those speedy, dangerous 'electrons', then you can win. So good job. But make sure you don't only 'wound' it or else you'll pay.... (hehe, too bad).

(BTW: If you think it's too easy or hard, then PM me and I'll tweak it up/down. Too much either way is not as fun.)

Yeah I hit it's chassis once (which almost killed it) and triggered it's countdown sequence so i put all my money on trying to hit again and that happened... Cool bot, Mad i really like it. I'd like to see someone else beat it too.

The only problem I have with it is that it takes AGES to load on my computer when I try to fight it is that normal or is my computer crap?

Loading: Yea, it takes a bit to load because of the necessary postions of the servos.

It's been a while since an update so i thought i'd showcase the team i've built for Naryar's AI pack (if it ever happens). This time i've made a video showcasing all of them. See it here: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=6shTlS02tZU (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=6shTlS02tZU)

Lithium looks like it lacks sufficient battery power to last long, Sodium's weapons look relatively weak, and it's very glitchy, Potassium seems very slow, Rubidium is a shameless DOAM clone, but it looks good, Cesium is a slow Grog clone, and Francium is good, but it's just InfCon + Shebeast.

Solid bots, but something more unique would be nice.

Don't worry, I changed the battery setup

AND Caesium's wheels to hypno ones.

Francium is decent but despite my efforts drives like a bitch (not straight)

That's right, it's the seventh instalment of the Archimandrite series. Possibly the coolest looking DSL bot I've ever built. It's had some significant improvements from the last one I entered in WRL. If I can make 5 just as cool bots, I might submit another team for the NAR AI Pack. Beats all the DSL AI and most of the NAR AI as well.

Has 3mm Titanium armour.

Pros:
Very fast
Very wedgy.
Gut-ripping ability

Cons:
Weak weapons
No srimech (suggestions?)

Constructive criticism appreciated.

The spinners are unrealistic. Move them slightly further apart. If the motors are attached to the big skirts, take them off and mount them on the multi extenders that can attach to the baseplate. That way, any bot that wants to rip your weapons off will have to go through all of the spikes, not just take out the comparitively weak skirt which will rip off all that are on that side.

No. Not yet anyway.
I only have 3kgs to work with at the moment so I'm not sure how I'm going to make one.

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to do so though :D.
