Hi5er's DSL Showcase
« on: September 16, 2010, 05:22:07 PM »
Right so thanks to somebody heres my DSL showcase lol

My first ever DSL robot is named the exorcist, named for his giant cross shaped flipper thats great at expelling evil out of the arena. Lame? Yeah lame, thought so, but the name stays.

Features:

- 2x Razors, great for running people around the arena if it gets under them
-  An over powered flipper, great as its a middleweight
- 2 wheel drive, faster than expected
- Can self right

Problems:

- Concerned about the wedge, I'd appreciate some tips on some wedge building
- Exposed tyres, sides and back
- limited weaponry
- Weak armour (1 mm Titanium)

Heres some screenies:

Outside the exorcist robot

Inside the robot exorcist, with the flipper lifted up.

All comments appreciated :)

Rather good actually, but use an aluminium skirt for the flipper. Its lighter.
Also, that is waay overpowered. You need 9 ants max

Uhh...7 ants for a Beta sounds quite underpowered to me. I'm almost certain 123stw told me it was 21.

Also, metal hinge wedges are generally much better than skirt hinge wedges. Though I'm still clueless as to how to make really good ones.

Its whatever the amp rating is divided by to for how many ants you need. Its  21 for a beta, 7 for a JX, and 2-3 for a BSG. Its lighter to use 3 PC 565's 90 kgs vs 136.5 kgs so try switching to them. Also a beta is overkill for a MW all weapon not enough bot. Try a pair of JX's or even BSG's. The best wedges are Hindge->DSL Bar->small wedge component but they are heavy. Another good option is Hindge->skirt component.

THAT'S why my wedges suck. =D

The drawback of the 565's, is you have to make the chassis quite tall to accommodate them, whereas the ants can fit into a MUCH tighter space overall, and you can have more complex shapes with your bot. You could get the 21 ants into a chassis using the height glitch, and the chassis would weigh a lot less than one built to fit the PC 565's. Plus invertibility would also be an issue for a bot with those batteries.

I reckon it could be made invertible with Overkill wheels and quite a high motor. Make it act as a Full Body flipper when it was inverted. I tried that once, but the AGOD killed the idea stone dead.

Don't stack batteries in DSL. A realistic rule applies.
