Title: Freeziez's DSL Showcase
Post by: freeziez on August 14, 2010, 04:01:09 PM
Well, I've been bugged by Preytor enough times, so here is my DSL showcase.

(WARNING: VERY LARGE POST AHEAD)

Please rate and comment!

Lets see here:

The AGOD, armor is blocking your weapon 120% change setup so that the weapon can reach the enemies also you could use better wheels, i dont know wich ones were better, been a while since I played DSL.

Anklebiter, v3.5 Give it some extenal armor and the ballest is not needed.

Blizzard, please change drive to 2 NPCs, piglets fail as drive.

Flippinator, Perms are not drive motors, try something like  NPC Fast.

Fuego, Realism issue with the hammers going trough the motor, attach them to the other side of the axle or make the axle longer/bar shorter or both.

Glacier, not bad, I would switch to alunium extenders and sactifice a few razors for external armor.

Second Sentinel Clone, best of these bots, not really much wrong with it.

I'd say you're going quite overboard with the batteries with most of them. SSC is fine, though, I think it's okay.

As a general rule, I think Thyrus might have told me this, 1 ant per spin motor, 2 per BSG, 5 per Small JX, 7 per Large JX. Not sure about Betas, though.

SSG's got it more or less right with most of them. And your chassises, or whatever the plural of chassis is, could stand to be shrunk quite a bit.

Betas = 3 PC625s for each beta BURST.

I <3 Ankle Biter!
Looks like a Cataclysm bot!

NPCFasts are not good weapon motors though, try a Perm 80 or E-tek.

Keep it up though!  ;)

I don't see any fail produced there. :P

*fixes topic title*

As for the shell, add a carbon fiber extender so it won't be immobilized when inverted.

I'd upgrade the drive on the MW.
Title: Re: Freeziez DSL Showcase
Post by: Vertigo on December 30, 2010, 11:59:55 AM
The antweight looks pretty good Freeziez! Only critism I can give is to possibly shrink the chasis. Oh, and don't use multi extenders unless hey are attatched to the baseplate.

I'd upgrade the drive on the MW.
Possibly, but shell spinners don't have to be fast. What you could do though is try not to stagger the drive, it doesn't seem to work too effectively in RA2 from my experiences, use a better wheel choice aswell, for the same weight, you can use hypnos, which have a lot more grip than DSL wheels. Try to make it a bit lower aswell

Huge improvement though Freeziez! :D

Start The Flame looks cool but the chassis is horribly inefficient.

Hot Shot is probably the best bot there.  Red Heat is also a cool design, though you should use a DSL bar instead of a Ti half sheet for more HP.

A sinle bsg MW popup is too weak IMO.
Get rid of all the pointless stabilisers at the back (it shouldn't be too hard to keep a popup stable) and try to get another BSG in there, and lighten your extender work on the weapon rack anyway.

Does that seriously only have 1 battlepack or are there hidden ants?  Where is all the weight?  I'm quite sure DoA2 has 4 ants.

Oh, and yes it is klone much. :P

When you clone something, you at least attempt to improve it...

Now with only 1 battlepack, this goes to the fail corner.

Straighten your drive, upgrade it
Title: Re: Freeziez's DSL Showcase
Post by: Scorpion on March 20, 2011, 04:48:54 PM
Unangle everything
Make the chassis airtight, this is a LW after all
Add an ant if you can, and definately use the lighter CB
Upgrade drive
Lighten the extender work, or atleast attatch it directly to the one multi rather than having two on there like it has now
Get rid of the two side spikes, or at the least use razorz instead, if needs be, lose some weaponry for the better drive as SKBT said.

The BW looks a little more of sub-par DSL-S than IRL, so I'm probably gonna reject that.

Just wanna say that the way batteries work now in 2.2 is totally different from 2.1 so you might wanna rework what you are currently running, ant batteries are pretty ass now.

-Batteries behave like actual batteries, how long a battery's gonna last is detailed in it's description.
-Razors aren't OP any more, pretty much every weapon's balanced now (Except pre-made discs such as the Mechavore Disc which are ridiculously OP)
-Wheels are balanced now, sorta? Again, the details are in the item's description. Like weapons, you generally pick which one is best suited for the job.

That first bot's pretty okay, just change the ant batteries for a WP836E (black battery), to save 4 KG's and properly power your bot, and trade that old-school BSG for a new-school VDMA, for much more oomph in your attack. Then all you need to do is shave 0.3KG's from somewhere to keep it in the weight limit, which you could easily do by swapping the tite extenders for alu.

To expand on this, replica components are the most OP. The most egregious examples are large typhoon teeth, the frenzy hammer and the large mechavore disc. Sometimes you'll see a whirl-whep disc as a counter to mechvore spinners, since it deweapons a large mechavore disc 1v1.

The above weapons are really the only ones I've seen used 'competitively' in 2.2. The two exceptions would be spike strips, which seem to be the popup weapon of choice now, and I think spamming ant saws isn't terrible maybe idk.

Also, there's a weapon rebalance patch that's been floating around for a while, which as far as I know but brings the replica components in line with everything else.

Not fully sold on still using razors, especially since spike strips are now the go to weapon for popups. But still it's a pretty decent improvement. That being said, I'd err on the side of caution for battery life and try to cram a bit more in there.

What, for another DOA clone? No way. 1 Black'll be enough to power that thing for 3 minutes with no worries. Same for Glacier, actually, although maybe swap for two Battlepacks if the longer VDMA drains battery more than expected.

Melting Point definitely doesn't need that extra ant. Delete it and spend the weight on a beefier weapon setup.

Taco Cat's a funky design, but I'm worried, again, about you having too many batteries. Plus, them wedges don't look like they'd be awfully wedgy.

As in bots to test against? There's hardly anything to test against in DSL2.2, since basically everyone moved to IRL or Ironforge. 2.1 bots should have just as good wedges as before, so whatever had good wedges back then will be your best bet to test against.

As far as wedge design goes, basically nothing has changed. The only thing I can think of is maybe you left before we realised that only the centre AP of the skirt hinge is actually wedgy. So don't use either of the outer APs for wedges. Skirts + hinges are still king as far as I know.

The skirt hinge and the door hinge are basically the same in terms of wedging ability as well, I think.

What would be a beefier weapon setup that would work for this kind of HS? I'm stumped.
Title: Re: Freeziez's DSL Showcase
Post by: FOTEPX on May 28, 2018, 05:02:26 AM
Well, removing the ant, and maybe compressing the chassis some would give us 6, maybe 7KG to play around with. From there, you could remove 2 Iron Spikes and stick some Heavy DSL Teeth or Spike Strips on. However, the meta for DSL 2.2 is usually "Bigger, heavier weapons -> more weapons, most of the time", and with HS, it's pretty much the case. So, I'd say, scrap the whole setup, and get yourself a DSL Bar with some hammers on the end.

I like the Alternate meltdown because it's rare to see big F***off bars on DSL-S HS.
Condensation is kinda clever with the battery placement.
Shell spinner is overpowered, and it could probably be slower if you put more weapons it.

Are you testing these robots by any chance?
