Title: FlamesOfIce's DSL IRL Showcase
Post by: FlamesOfIce on July 09, 2018, 02:44:52 PM
Welcome to my DSL showcase. I am (as shown by my total number of posts) new to this forum and I have only been playing DSl for approx half a year.

This is First Blood, my first ever proper IRL robot and my entrant into Deathmatch 2. It has Aluminium armour, Titanium frame, wheels are powered by Wyachi magmotors and my spinner is powered by a Perm. It has a good weapon but is unbearably slow.

Sorry for the bot dump but theres quite a few I have waiting to be showcased:

Next is Horizon Line, a 'pneumatic' flipper that can barely lift a robot up and may occasionally be able to topple one over. The flippers don't reset correctly and it is also unbearably slow because weight limitations. Its armour is Aluminium with an Aluminium frame. Its flipper is also aluminium and its wheels are powered by two normal NPCs. It looks nice though

Finally, there is my newest creation, inspired by Magnetar and Pulsar , Get Framed.

It has an Aluminium Frame and its back and top have Aluminium plates, but as the name suggests the majority of the armour is just a frame, the idea is so that it can trap weapons in it and control them (it totally isn't that I ran out of weight or anything). Its discs are made of steel and are powered by a Perm. Its drive is 2 NPC fasts. Its only issue is it can struggle to self right.

These are pretty good newbie bots, though I cannot comprehend the shape of out "Horizon Line" at all. I would recommend putting a bottom plate on "get framed" since most framed robots have bottoms in the real world.

Also, if you have multiple robots, please only post one post with each robot.

These look pretty good for a new user. Way better than most of the 'vets' who try to roast me (and fail)

You should put somekind of bottom on them though

Just a question, I tried to link multiple images but I couldn't figure out how, please could you tell me how it works.

I will also attempt to fit in a bottom into Horizon Line and Get Framed.

It should be as simple as clicking on that button and repeating as needed.

Ooo new blood! Great bot for a rook. I dont suggest using Mags for drive (TWM motors) as they are wery slow on heavyweights.

I have added a bottom panel onto Get Framed, and also got it under the weight limit. Here are some bonus shots from the sides and back as well !

Good bot, but I suggest that you should crop your pictures, with one for external pic and one for internal pic. You can use MS Paint for that

Keep doing you bud. Try and develop your own style as you learn. You've got all the basics down.

Yeah, your bots are awesome. And I suggest entering them to tournaments. Orc's Wars Overclocked is now in Signup, and you can send bots in Destruction Evolution for it's third season

Thanks! Ive already entered First Blood into deathmatch and I've applied Get Framed into Orc Wars New Blood. I didn't know that Destruction Evolution was accepting season 3 signups. I think I'll make an entirely new heavyweight for that. Maybe a Kamikaze style bot. (Kamikaze is a beetle weight built by Robert Cowan: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj88r-hyJfcAhWIwxQKHU_-B9UQwqsBCCswAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DRBld2zpbvxg&usg=AOvVaw185chjOrtVxmGgiUu4tKLb)

After the utter failure of Horizon Line, I had an urge to retry it. Therefore, here is the ultimate L O N G B O I, Horizon Line 2, this time featuring an actually effective flipper!

Sure, nobody's stopping you. It's a good way to learn the weaknesses of your designs combat-wise

As for the bot, I'm really not a fan of the open back at all, I think that needs to be covered up. And if you're making extenderbots, you should use the pixel chassis that comes with DSL 2.2 CE (or you can find it on the bot exchange). And the exposed front drive motors aren't really IRL I think.

It's a cool gimmick for a bot, having it just be really long, but I feel like in this case it was a flaw of your building rather than something you set out to do. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but either way I don't think you really pulled it off with all the panel gaps and stuff.

Oh, and CROP YOUR SCREENSHOTS

Inspired by Olister92's Inhaler, I decided to make my own 4-Bar flipper.

And so... HERE IS:

That's not a bad start. The number one tip if you're making faux extender bots is that you don't need to stick on steel armour onto the main chassis. Because most of your bot will be protected by the outside armour plates, there's no need in having a tough enough chassis armour to protect your bot's vitals, this is just a waste of weight. Swapping the armour for something like plastic 5 will save weight to put towards better weaponry, better drive motors, or even better protection.

As for your weapon, you should swap out the VDMA for another burst piston to get a little more power into the weapon. When I built Grindelwald for GTMCS2, I used a wide medium burst for the base, followed by a medium for the end burst, if you want an little idea of how much power a HW four bar should possess for OOTA capabilities. Apart from that, you should make your flipping arm's armour plate a little longer. You should try and fit the flipping arm within the space of the gap, mainly to ensure that your opponent can be directly on the bar when your bot get's underneath them for a immediate flip, instead trying to get the bot to move upwards.

After losing to Primodious in Deathmatch 2, i decided to rebuild First Blood
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

I also made a heavyweight version
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

And last but not least, I made an overhead spinner.

Edit: Because its not obvious, yes First Blood(cw) and normal First Blood has two teeth.

VG Showdown's gimmick is that your bot must be based on a video game. Also just asking, but do you also plan to join Mech Madness 2, Brother in Arms, and Middleweight Mixup 2?

Shoot. Ill enter them into Mech Madness 2 instead. I missed your message informing us about it.

Also, because i can't go a post without shilling, please check out my new tournament if you haven't already and if you like the idea, please give it a yes vote. I only need 3 more. The tournament is https://gametechmods.com/forums/public-tournament-discussion/shred-bots-discussion/20/. Thx

Looks cool and more effective, particularly at wedging and spinner killing, as well as gutripping. And while slower, that one also looks more stable with less drive. This is because few weeks before, I downloaded the old version from Bot Exchange and tested it against OverChopper, and the disc on the old version alone can flip my bot over

HEY GUYS! I'm back, if anyone remembers me xD.

Anyway, this new bot Blood Shatter is in short made to survive the full three minutes. It is surrounded by 'ablative' armor inspired by Shatter but has a frame of steel with all the internals being held inside it. I've put this bot against the DSL Shrederator and it did manage to maintain full mobility throughout the whole 3 minutes despite losing a lot of its basic chassis. I've used typhoon teeth with a small drum for the weapon and it is powered by flat motors. Anyone have any ways to improve?

There's a big amount of gaps in between the motors and such, other than that it looks decently solid. Typhoon teeth is a little frowned upon by some people, maybe a beater drum would look better but I kinda like it :thumbup

Honestly, gonna agree with Code Red on this. Typhoon drums are pretty sh**ty things and filling in the gaps on the machine is gonna help. I do like the idea of ablative armour, so I hope you can continue to refine that.

That looks better now. Also, i like the new eggbeater too.

And just to add, but honestly for me, I have no problem with typhoon drums. For your drum, my only problem with the setup is that you had 8 smalls and the teeth were directly attached to the drum itself, rather than an extender or hexplate then drum cover
