Title: F.A.P Fantastic And Pro DSL IRL Edition.
Post by: The Answer on March 14, 2018, 01:16:19 AM
I haven't made any robots in a while. All of my old bots got lost when my old hard drive died, so I'm remaking them to reacquaint myself with the game.
P.S: So I don't lose everything anymore I'll upload them here.

Remade Brahma Bull for DSL.

Hey, welcome back to GTM. Just so you know, DSL has almost entirely moved into an IRL building meta. Not saying that you should follow suit, just letting you know since IRL wasn't really a big thing back in 2015 IIRC.

As for criticism on the bot, I think 4 black batts is way too much for your bot, 2 should be perfectly fine for 2 drive motors and a burst. Your bot's wedge is also very narrow which would make it more difficult for your bot to keep another bot on that wedge, particularly against HS. Lastly, that plow on the back is mostly wasted weight, since bots in RA2 rarely get attacked from behind, and if they do they're kinda screwed, plow or not, due to how the AI functions. Better to use that weight for a more powerful flipper burst or multiple bursts IMO.

Thanks for the heads up I like IRL building more anyways. I do wonder if what you mean that the bot I posted wasn't fitting of the IRL standard? For practice I made a middleweight Bar spinner.

I also Adjusted my Flipper bot with your feedback in mind and other misc things I wanted to do. I feel he can fit in the IRL setting with these changes but I'd like a 2nd opinion.

It's technically IRL, but all those little things poking out make the bot look very un-irl. If you look at IRL bots they look more like a solid shape than a mass of spike and dangly bits.

Try using an image host (for ex. Imgur) instead of the attachments as they are an absolute cancer.

something something imgur something something attachments are cancer.
His images are pinned and inserted fine, so no, he doesn't have to.

If you haven't already, look into downloading DSC's IRL packs. They add a bunch of component skins that are very useful for IRL building, and are essentially a standard now for building DSL 2.2.

I did download those packs. They are very helpful in making the bots stand out and less generic(although I do like the typical gray steel color). using them I worked on this bot on and off today I really enjoy how he came out.

He started out as a remake of Brahma Bull but became his own thing and accomplished what I originally set out with BB's design anyway. I hear RA2 now has proper online now so I intend to build toward the other weight classes in the coming days. Stats: weight is 798 lbs, 2 npc fast motors, 4 red batteries, and Beta's hammer motor for the flipper.

Today I made 2 new bots, 1 CW and 1 MW.
First here is the CW a remake of my old shell-wheeled thwack bot, renamed to Cactus Thwack. I highly doubt it would be allowed in an IRL setting however but it was fun to build. No inside pic as he only has the standard NPCFS, bat, and anchor to hold his extender.

Next is the MW Minister of Darkness, in testing it performed the best out of all my current bots. Specs: 2 NPCFs with Growler wheels, Tornado Mer gearbox with dsl bars tipped off with small Typhoon blades, 3 ants and the blue ctrl board.

Finally I ended up deciding to optimize my HW flipper. All the internals are the same but I weakened his armor to Ti5 and used the extra weight to replace his extenders from aluminum to Titanium. Repainted to fit Brahma Bull's color scheme.

I made another one yesterday but I don't really like how it turned out. I don't want to delete it so I'll upload it in my next batch of bots.

Forgive me triple posting but I made another robot today. A LW rammer bot named Pedigree.

2 regular NPCs to save weight with 2 ants very minimal but gets the job done.

Just a quick heads up If your'e using DSL 2.2 Ant Batteries are not good anymore, Use a battlepack instead.

Thanks for the advice I've been using a very outdated guide from 2014. For my SCSA based bot I went back to the HW class and created a hammer/crusher bot. I might go back and edit the wedge parts later they still don't look quite right but it's effective.

For comparison here is the version 1 which was part thwack bot.

Your robots are very... frame-like? I dunno, it's weird. Get some armour panels on these things.

While I'm fond of the frame structure I took your advice. I also redid this front end it looks much better imo.

I remade my MW bar spinner into a CW FBS with the intent to emulate Mauler's steel flails. All internals were replaced now having 4wd and tornado mer motor.

There we go! That front looks much cleaner now.  :claping

Today I remade 1 bot and made 1 new one.
I wasn't happy with the performance of Brahman Bull. I changed the position of its flipper motor, and replaced his frame like armor with proper panels.

My newest bot is a Hammerbot named JackHammer. 4 NPC fasts, Large pneumatic motor, and too many batteries.

Yeah, the flipper is gonna tip when flipping

Last rebuild, it doesn't tip over and flips fine after many tests against the flip test robot , self rights consistently, and now it has wheel guards. Personally I feel it's lost most of it's charm and I don't want to touch it anymore.

I lied about the last rebuild because I hated it so much :dead:. Whipped this up in less than 30 minutes from an older version and I can say not only does do everything it needs to but also looks closer to what I wanted and I'm pleased with it. The wheels are not exposed I am using the clear armor panels in-case you can't see it very well. The specs for the internals are the same as the original version.

Looks cool but you could make the front extenders line up to the wedge size. It'd save you weight whilst looking better.

Two more bots CW Kill-o-amp clone and a slightly amateur VS HW with 4wd because I've made too many 2wd bots

The disc would need more support for the disc, I recommend you lose the small typhoon teeth and use the weight for supports

Redid disk support, and rearranged the armor panels.
