Have to stop by and acknowledge that Vertigo has been one of my favorite entries in Redditbots since the first photos of the bots were posted there. :clapingThanks! For all its flaws, it's still pretty powerful and has a nice look to it, I think.
I'm excited to see it in action!
(who, incidentally, is my opponent in Round 1 of Redditbots! Small world, huh?)
And that too! Very small world (who, incidentally, is my opponent in Round 1 of Redditbots! Small world, huh?)
AND live in the same area!
That reminds me, actually. Thanks to 090901's suggestion, I made a texture for that back wedge if you want it, too?
I quite prefer the lifter version of deathstalker.
How does the lifter Deathstalker do without that back wedge? I imagine looks-wise it'd make it really compact and cool looking.
As for Discord, the bot could use some supports on the bottom of the disc if you're going for an irl look.I did want to add matching supports underneath as well, but because the disc is so low to the ground, there isn't enough room for them:
You could probably get rid of one of the batteries for weight.
Axle load the perm axle off with the disc attached using a copal and add the extender.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs_ia4sTwHQ
or use RA2CF cause lelele IRL is a real metagame leleleI tried axle loading and the wheels glitched off, but not the disc. Maybe I'm just being impatient, idk. I'll try it again later, and if it still doesn't work then I'll look into using RA2CF. Thanks for the tips ^_^
I assume this is meant to be IRL? If so, those thin metal sheets are not appropriate as flippers.I did wonder. I'll have to work on that, then. All my other flipper bots use thin sheets as well. I think the flipper sections might actually end up being lighter, so it's worth making the switch for that reason as well.
You don't see many nuisance bots these days. The forks aren't meant as wedges tbh, they're for stability purposes to stop the thing tipping over every time it drives forward. They backfire when it's upside-down though. My Beat the Clock entry (which I haven't showcased yet) also has forklifts for stability.
This is the same with forklift wedges.
It looks cool. Its wedge effectiveness I might question though.
I'd consider dropping the armour down so you can add extenders either side of the arm to make it look thicker. Looks nice otherwise!
Upgraded Vertigo once more. Taking TheRoboteer's suggestion, it now has a bar srimech with supports, which looks a bit more realistic. I also extended the two wedges on the sides, to stop it doing a forward somersault every time it hits something. Might rustle up a proper skin for it and enter it into Badnik's artbot tourney, since it's probably the artiest bot I have.
Here's a rebuilt version of my undercutter Bluebird. Two wheels instead of four, a more powerful, durable weapon, better armour, better extender work, and a skin that doesn't completely suck.I have no WORDS
(http://i.imgur.com/1Y4VoUS.png)
Thoughts?
it doesn't have much reach and it doesn't look that armored to me...That's in comparison to the original Bluebird, which had much less frontal armour and even less reach:
also those edges of the chassis are exposed.
Took Naryar's suggestion and skinned Vertigo's Minion discs. First time component skinning, not entirely happy with the result. Please advise.
Did a decent job with the new bot skin though. I'll edit the logo so the SRIMECH slots don't overlap it, but other than that and the sh**ty disc reskin, this is basically how Vertigo V will look in Badnik's tournament/the LDAI pack.
I'll skin it properly tomorrow and also probably replace the a e s t h e t i c forklifts with wedgelets...or I could rebuild my "literally just a box" axebot that I showcased four months ago ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Me: I should get round to building an entry for Annihilation Nation--Can make a component based on the disc? Because the game crashes when i do :(.
Me to me: Rebuild Vertigo for the 7000th time
(https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/3159275f03b6d13012c68de130bdae219f19acd1/43_0_817_490/master/817.jpg?w=300&q=55&auto=format&usm=12&fit=max&s=47cda1e84bf7e1877d71f1d874c752b0)
So yeah, here's a version of Vertigo with a single large Minion disc that doesn't clip through the motor. Armour's not as strong, weapon's not as powerful (Perm 80 instead of Perm 132), and it gets deweaponed by MechaVore which is kinda worrying... but on the other hand, I think it looks pretty darn good.
Now I will admit: the right-hand disc support is actually attached to the left-hand disc support via a 40cm extender that passes straight through the disc, as I couldn't be bothered to try positioning a matching baseplate anchor on the other side (the left-hand disc support isn't lined up properly to start with). There is an anchor on the right-hand side, but it's attached to the disc support, not vice versa. I don't think this invalidates its IRL-ness, as it's purely for aesthetic reasons and creates the illusion that the supports are actually physically attached to the disc.
(I'd also like to add that I tried building one with two Mini Minions powered by a dual E-Tek, but I couldn't armour the motor without it looking dumb)
imo the wings would look better closer to the top of the wedge
also: make them angle out to the side instead of being perpendicular to the chassis
i'll second Kurt on getting those wings more on the top of the chassis, but more for reasons of reach on the hammer.Took me waaaaay longer than it should have done but I did the things. I also gave it bigger wheels, to give it more ground clearance and to fill out the wheelguards more.
alternatively you can make a longer weapon boom.
What side is the front on that axe bot?imo the wings would look better closer to the top of the wedge

And here's my first pass at the first half of my LDAI team! Skins are still subject to change and I'm not sure about Zero Degrees. I can't build lower than MW very well.

Yeah, the scoop is at the front, but theoretically the axe could work double-sided.If the plow is the front, turn those teeth around so they can help trap, plus it'll look cooler.
That totally defeats the purpose of them being wings then.Yeah, the scoop is at the front, but theoretically the axe could work double-sided.If the plow is the front, turn those teeth around so they can help trap, plus it'll look cooler.
The colour scheme is supposed to look jarring, to go with the robot's theme of disharmony, but glad you guys like the extender frames at least :D I seem to be good at those but terrible at actual extenderbots...I feel like black and white would achieve that better. IMO is just looks... bad...
Wondering if it would look better with a white or grey disc...?
Might work better with a silver disc, the red one is really, really bad.Say no more fam
ahem (https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-verizon&biw=360&bih=289&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=UseuWde2KtXMjwPZ2pEo&q=palau+flag&oq=palau+flag&gs_l=mobile-gws-img.1.0.0l4j0i30k1.4039.6528.0.7549.6.6.0.0.0.0.682.2476.2-1j0j2j2.5.0....0...1.1j4.64.mobile-gws-img..1.5.2475...0i67k1.SHQ_y_x7MdY)
I quite like how vivid the colour scheme is and how well the disc represents the circle in the centre of the flag of Palau. Also a fan of how compact the insides are. Nice stuff.
CW drum, as previewed in the Discord. Wasn't sure what to name it, or what to do with the blue colour scheme, until I remembered I was gonna build a defensive rammer called Millwall Brick (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millwall_brick) for Redditbots LW. That didn't happen, so I repurposed the name. The drum is powered by 2 Flatmotors hidden inside the extenders, the two halves are slightly misaligned but it'll do for now."**** you, I'm Millwall"

Its name is Quartz, this font just has a weird Z. I've wanted to build a HW bot with an all-extender flipping arm for ages, and finally, here it is. Flipper's powered by 2 Wide Mediums, and it has 4 black batts. My main concern is that it struggles to self-right, but that should be fixable if I just increase the burst arc a little.
Day 3's theme is "Roasted", and I already did a flamethrower on Day 1... welp :dumb)Solution: build a flaming hammer.
I like the idea of Inktober+Bots, Are you going to continue this till the end of the month?A bit off topic, but should we start a prompt turned into bot building stuff, and building challenges, like making a rep, but with a twist to it?
I like the idea of Inktober+Bots, Are you going to continue this till the end of the month? That's the aim! There's a couple of days where I'll be busy with work commitments and might not have the time, so I might have to double up on some days to make up for it. I'm already surprised at how much traction and attention this is getting.
A bit off topic, but should we start a prompt turned into bot building stuff, and building challenges, like making a rep, but with a twist to it?Sounds a bit like what the old BOTM used to be like. Would certainly be interesting.
Day 8's theme is "Star". I've wanted to make a Nightmare-style VS for a while, so I took the opportunity. Had to do the splash image slightly differently as a result.Looks pretty neat, although how exposed the drive motors are does irk me somewhat. In terms of your turning issue try rotating the wheels before you attach them to the axle. Normally fixes that kind of thing.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Sadly it doesn't actually work properly, it constantly pulls to the left and ends up spinning in circles. It's not as clean-looking as it could be, either, I ran out of time and weight to make the extenderwork look better (though maybe I should drop some of it down from Steel to Ti...)

Nice builds there! Thanks, man, both of those statements mean a lot. Especially coming from you, who is a really good DSL builder
And no need to worry. You're still the same guy :)
It’s just a skin and not meant to function like an actual clockDay 14's theme was "Clock". The idea came to me pretty quickly for this one, and I think it came out looking pretty great.Since im a kid, when the spinner spins does the clook spin?
Yes, it's a Tombklone, but it's a 24-karat Tombklone
First build of 2019, and last build before I turn 24. It's basically a HW version of Nerve Agent (because a HW armed with nothing but two flamethrowers is totally gonna be competitive, right guys?)My opinions:
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Hopefully my next build won't be another 4WD box-wedge :P
But seriously I think it could be a good spinner-killer if the front wedge is steelIt is, the wedge and the wheelguards are entirely steel. I haven't actually tested it against a spinner yet but it should hold up pretty decently.

Thanks Bild! "Clean but generic" seems to be the most common feedback I'm getting at the moment so I'm gonna try and come up with some more interesting designs for the future.First build of 2019, and last build before I turn 24. Sad that ypu didn't got any useful critique, so i will do a little critique! :p
I think the problem with this is that it looks rather blend when i look at the shape itself.
Classic box with wedge on the front, maybe try something different like try to replicate tauron from battlebots!
I bet thats the main problem for that bot, i hope i helped a bit! :3
Agree on the generic wedge comment, which is a shame with those nice extender details around the rear wheels. Your bots always have great extender accents like that. Maybe just a more unique front end?Yeah, my extenderwork is still something I'm proud of, it's just the fronts of my robots that need work. I'll have a think about what I can do.

Anyway, today I decided to breathe some new life into an old friend.

I can't believe it's been almost two years since I built Jungle Fever. The bodywork hasn't changed much: the extenderwork is cleaner and better-optimised in a few places, it uses the new NPCs with the fixed APs, and I swapped the large Colsons for DSL wheels because why the hell did I give it large Colsons in the first place?! Massive waste of weight.
I still need to update the skin, but I'm posting it here now to get feedback on the main attractions: its alternate weapons. A lot of tourneys now, like Orc's Wars, limit you to only one Moros Blade (plus they slightly clip through the Perm even when you use the longest belt). So I've built two alternate weapon configs - a disc and a DSL bar - but I'm not too sure about either of them. Thoughts?
I still like the Moros Blade the most, the disc looks a bit ugly. The normal bar looks good, but I don’t think it’ll be as damaging as the other 2 optionsAny of these look better? I'm leaning towards the one on the right (maybe with Desert-coloured Typhoons, if Hop's pack has them).
Nothing wrong with the skin, and I really love the way it looks. However, I think if you could make the name stand out a bit more, it would make it look a better
Skin's updated and the teeth now match the disc. Jungle Fever is finally ready for its comeback.COLORED TYPHOONS HECK YEAH

I've had an idea for a rebuilt Octane so maybe that'll be next on the agenda.
Jungle Fever is finally ready for its comeback. For what?
That's a good question :P I'll have to wait for someone to announce a new HW tourney (or just save it for the OW3 World Champs, I guess).Jungle Fever is finally ready for its comeback. For what?
He could put it in RWL? :really_makes_you_think:I don't know what that is.
I now hope Alloftheman actually made a thread for RWL in GTM and upload vids ASAP. Anyway, it's Robotic World League, a new tourney run by Alloftheman in Discord. Another rebuild of an older bot: my undercutter, Bluebird. The previous versions never fought - unless you count Horror of Koror, which was basically Bluebird 4 - so hopefully this one gets some action. And hopefully it looks a bit less generic than some of my other recent builds, even if the colour scheme still feels a bit plain.

Another build that took way too long, but finally, here is the upgraded Absolute Zero: a tanky vert with a heart of ice.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
"but hey, it looks cool, right?"
New Octane is spicyThanks fam heck
Planning to update Fire Ant and throw that in too, so I've got a "red bot with a weird weapon" like I did for DM2 and DM3.
A while back, I made an extremely flat LW rammer named Knuckle Sandwich. The idea was to counter overheads by just being too low for them to hit. I decided to see if the concept translated to MW level - and while I'm at it, why not make two and turn them into a HW cluster?
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
I don't think the experiment worked, tbh. They're too slow to build up decent ramming power, and too under-weaponed to actually be viable as a HW cluster... plus you don't see many overheads at HW level anyway. Hmm. Well, at least it's something different.
That is Greek mythology right?Yep. I struggled to think of a good "duo" name, and that was the best I could think of. Will be intrigued to see how they do.
The redesigns are looking cool! Especially liking Midnight Wish! Thanks! Sadly, as a former PWS entrant, it's not eligible for New Blood, but this is:
Might look better with Wedgelets that are orange or red, rather than yellow.
Soft spot for Vesuvius <3 Love that from you
hellhound is dope
also have you figured out how to ai the linear actuators?
Builds have been thin on the ground lately, I'm doing that ADHD thing where I'm trying to juggle thirty million interests and RA2 just kinda drew the short straw for a whileHimawari looks nice, but I'm not keen on how the supports are different widths between top and bottom.
Anywho, as part of a build challenge/tournament on the PWT server, I was tasked with building a cambered HS with an anime theme. Having recently watched (and loved) Wonder Egg Priority, I built this and came 2nd:
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
I also built a non-cambered version for more regular tournament play:
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
And speaking of PWT, here's an upgrade of an old design that I never actually used for anything. I intend to throw it into the next PWT round, and maybe some future rounds as well, depending on how it performs.
