Upgraded Vertigo once more. Taking TheRoboteer's suggestion, it now has a bar srimech with supports, which looks a bit more realistic. I also extended the two wedges on the sides, to stop it doing a forward somersault every time it hits something. Might rustle up a proper skin for it and enter it into Badnik's artbot tourney, since it's probably the artiest bot I have.

it looks good, with one problem : the disc color doesn't go well with the overall color of the bot.

Yeah, I was thinking that too tbh. I need to look up a tutorial or something for how to do custom skins, and then I'll skin them to fit the black-and-yellow colour scheme.

Here's a rebuilt version of my undercutter Bluebird. Two wheels instead of four, a more powerful, durable weapon, better armour, better extender work, and a skin that doesn't completely suck.

Thoughts?

it doesn't have much reach and it doesn't look that armored to me...

That's in comparison to the original Bluebird, which had much less frontal armour and even less reach:

Yeah... might need a slight design tweak. I'll get round to that when I can.

Took Naryar's suggestion and skinned Vertigo's Minion discs. First time component skinning, not entirely happy with the result. Please advise.

Did a decent job with the new bot skin though. I'll edit the logo so the SRIMECH slots don't overlap it, but other than that and the sh**ty disc reskin, this is basically how Vertigo V will look in Badnik's tournament/the LDAI pack.

Lookin' sharp. I look forward to seeing it compete. Maybe I'll even get the chance to face it.

color scheme is indeed better. however, i feel that disc reskin is... meh. it's nearly all solid black with a bit of yellow.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, that's why I'm not happy with it.

It also got rejected from Badnik's tourney because one of the discs clips through the motor, which is something I can't really do much about, so I'll have to work on something else. I have plenty of bots I can improve, though.

Can I turn my rear-hinged flipper Defcon into a 6-Mag angled spinner? Yes. Yes I can.

Might rebuild it from scratch as the chassis isn't optimal, and the skin is kinda slapdash too. It's a promising design though.

I updated Chernobyl's wedges, but that's a minor update not really worth showing off. I do, however, have two other builds to show off for Christmas!

Firstly, I rebuilt Bluebird (again). It's still powerful and well-armoured but hopefully now looks even better.

Secondly, inspired by all the thwackbots in Sword of Glory, I decided to try building a DSL version of my semi-infamous RA3 axlebot Torquish Delight. Unlike the original, this one's a pure SnS, with a big-ass hammer. I BFE'd the chassis height so the wedges at the back would line up properly, and RA2CF helped with the thwacking arm (though it's still not perfect).

I'm also gonna try making an extenderbot version of my hammer/pusher hybrid Valkyrie, though I don't know how well it'll end up going. I'll keep you posted. Merry Christmas!

New year, new bots? lolnope

Firstly, I've given Defcon a major overhaul:
  • The front wedgelets are now mounted on extenders rather than hinges. This doesn't seem to have increased their effectiveness much, but the higher mounting means a) they look nicer, and b)...
  • The wheels are now smaller, reducing Defcon's overall ground clearance.
  • The armour has been redesigned, with greater coverage on the sides, and rounded bits on the back to stop it getting stranded there (which happened annoyingly often before).
  • The central flipper panel has been made wider to create the illusion of it all being one big panel (which is immediately broken when it flips and they go out of alignment, but still...), and I added a fake ram on the underside.

Now weighs 795.0kg.

The next step will be giving it a paintjob that doesn't suck. I'm thinking blue-and-yellow like the original RWRA2 version.

I've also given Disquiet an overhaul. Instead of a DSL disc that hovered two feet above the extender frame and looked stupid, it now has a drum with cutting teeth that fills the space much more nicely. I also BFE'd the chassis height down to make it look neater, as I did with Torquish Delight. Now weighs 244.0kg. Again, next step is to give it a proper skin.
