A while back, I made an extremely flat LW rammer named Knuckle Sandwich. The idea was to counter overheads by just being too low for them to hit. I decided to see if the concept translated to MW level - and while I'm at it, why not make two and turn them into a HW cluster?

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

I don't think the experiment worked, tbh. They're too slow to build up decent ramming power, and too under-weaponed to actually be viable as a HW cluster... plus you don't see many overheads at HW level anyway. Hmm. Well, at least it's something different.

I went back to the drawing board on this one, and came up with these (significantly deadlier) flat bois:

Scylla & Charybdis.png

I'm throwing them in for Mech Madness 3, because the deadline is tomorrow and I didn't know what else to put in my sixth slot. So my line-up is as follows:

Yep. I struggled to think of a good "duo" name, and that was the best I could think of. Will be intrigued to see how they do.

My old LW, Venom, has finally received a rebuild to bring it in line with its full-size cousins, Paralyzer and Nerve Agent. It'll be standing alongside Knuckle Sandwich as my flagship LW for the foreseeable future.

I am now officially Out Of Ideas™️

Deathstalker 2019.png

I probably should've built this 18 months ago, but never mind. Just an experiment to see how a 2016 design holds up in almost-2020.

Judging from Badger's comments in the Discord, the answer is "not very well", apparently

Decided to go away, have a re-think, and build an entirely new axebot from scratch. This was the result:

Templar Dragon.png

I'm not sure about some of the design choices, but it feels good to be experimenting again instead of rebuilding the same robots over and over.

First new bot of the year. Well... sorta new. Hop requested a Bluebird remake, and I just so happened to have an idea.

Bluebird Mk.II.png

Same basic design as the 2019 version, but with the 4WD from the very first version back in 2017. Not only does this keep it stable, but the larger rear wheels give it a neat party trick: if it's flipped upside-down, it turns into an angled spinner and can still hit things! The downside is that it's kinda slow, as there was no way I would have been able to work NPCs into it.

Got a couple of other ideas in the pipeline, maybe I can get them done over the weekend. Feels good to be building dumb sh** again.

Finally made a front-hinge I'm happy with design-wise. Had to put a lot of thought into how it would look. Performs pretty well, too.

Most of my building recently has been focused on incremental tweaks for PWS - shuffling Graf Eisen's wedgelets forward and bumping its chassis armour up, for example - so not much I could really show off. But thanks to Cringus' WWRA2 thingy, I've finally gotten a new horizontal spinner built, based on the previous version of Discord but not dogsh** slow.

And since I've been here 3 1/2 years, I figured it was about time I lived up to my username...

Full name is "Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious" - which is what I hope this thing will cause its opponents. And yes, there is a JPS logo on the underside ;)

Here's a rebuild that's long overdue:

LadyKiller 2.png

I've taken into account everything I've learned from PWS: a longer body to reduce front-flipping, longer wedgelets to help get under opponents, a taller wedge to help keep it under them, and a smaller gas supply to save weight. Hopefully this should combine the competitiveness of Paralyzer with the stylishness of the original LadyKiller.

I've been on a bit of an upgrade spree over the past couple of days, but first I wanna show these off as I realised I never showcased them:

Vivid.png

Vivid Red and Vivid Blue have been rebuilt from scratch, while Vivid Yellow is just a bulked-up Nerve Agent VX. They're optimised for PWS, so unfortunately, they probably won't see use in any GTM tournaments. Still wanted to show them off here, though.

Time to show off those upgrades I mentioned earlier.

First, LadyKiller. The reception to LadyKiller 2 was... kinda frosty, so I went back to the original design and gave it a new toothed wedge, Hypno wheels, and Ti 5 armour. It's now much better at getting opponents onto the wedge and keeping them there, plus the extra speed from the Hypno wheels means it can really slam things around now.

ladykiller_1.5.png

Next, Midnight Wish. The front wedge is now shallower so it lines up with the flipper, which also allowed me to add wedgelets without them looking silly. I do miss the T-shaped flipping arm, but I think the rest of the changes make it worth it.

midnightwish_1.5.png

Bluebird's only had a minor change, but it's an important one: I shuffled the wheel guards forward, and as a result, I was able to get the front wedges to line up with the chassis properly. I'm still pondering any further upgrades I can make ahead of Royal Rampage III.

bluebird2.1.png

And finally, a robot I bet none of you were expecting to see again:

Valkyri3 Rev.2.png

This is how far I had to dig to find a Shell Shock entrant before Killer clarified that it was okay to use the old NPCs  heck

Anyway, Valkyri3's had some major upgrades, including stronger armour, hinged wedgelets, significantly optimised extenderwork, and (as always) grippier wheels instead of Colsons. I'm not sure what to do with the remaining 20kg - it's not quite enough for Steel 5, and extra counterweights actually seem to make it less stable. Still, it's always good to see one of my veterans get brought up to speed again.

Thanks! Sadly, as a former PWS entrant, it's not eligible for New Blood, but this is:

Divine Graffiti.png

Copied the wedge design from Robo (because everything else I tried looked like crap), and took the name from a Talk to Transformer post on the Discord. I spent a good while on this and I'm pleased with how clean it came out looking.

I also made another minor update to Valkyri3, tidying up the wheelguards and making them transition more neatly into the front wedge.

Threw together a LW extenderbot flatboi for Robot Rampage III. It jitters about all over the place and doesn't have enough battery to last the three minutes (couldn't fit a red battery in because it's only 10cm tall) but it's fun to try something different.

Update: Can't be bothered to redo the splash but I BFEd the motors inwards so the wheels don't clip the sides

Finally got round to upgrading Tearaway for DM6. It turned out to be one of those "edge case" bots that was overweight with the crash patch installed, so to save weight, the rounded back now uses drums instead of angle extenders. The weapon is now also powered by dual TWMRs instead of flats.

Next bot to get the 2.4 treatment is Octane:

Octane C-Spec.png

The weapon's now powered by dual E-Tek hubmotors instead of dual flats, so it's even more powerful than ever. I've made a few other quality-of-life changes, but the E-Teks are the big one. I also plan to make a version with only 6 large beaters, because a lot of HW tournaments seem to set that as the limit nowadays.
