Title: RA2Winner999's DSL showcase
Post by: Ra2Winner999 on March 04, 2018, 08:33:49 PM
Here are some pics of my bots. Use constructive criticism.

P.S. its name is Hammerblade.

Hammerblade v2 is out! Say "This feedback is talking about v2" before writing a review. A little shrinking gave me weight for long batteries, 3mm Titanium instead of 1mm plastic, and an extra skirt! I used smaller hammers to stop the hammers clipping through the perm belt.

I modified the design and followed Dreamcast's advice.
It got under a "small wedge leading up to burst motor" design head on!
Here are some pics.

Just a quick heads up theres a tutorial on how to use the image attachment right
https://gametechmods.com/forums/site-news-and-feedback/how-to-use-insert-attachment/
Anyways welcome to the forums, I reccomend making the chassis smaller, looks alright for a newbie tho.

Good to see it beating the original article. But there are a few places to clean up.
You don't need to spam ant batteries anymore as they're not effective for their weight. Obviously, this isn't your fault because nobody's updated the tutorials yet. Shrinking your chassis to the size of the new battery and using that weight for weapons/motors will improve it too.

hammers cutting through the perm belts is a no-no, so that needs to be fixed.

be sure to shrink the chassis to fit your components, that frees up a lot of weight for more weapons, better drive, etc.

ballast is wasted weight and could be used on grippier tires instead

it's decent for what it is (beating mako is proof of that) but it could definitely use some improvement.

Welcome to the forums, btw!

Hello again, and welcome to my showcase! As always, use constructive criticism.

A little chassis shrinking goes a long way! I got weight for 3mm Ti. and long batteries instead of ants. + 1 extra skirt. I slightly downgraded the hammers so they don't clip through the Perm 132 belts.

UPDATE Check my old showcase for this.

Better.

I have two pointers. In DSL 2.2 the game tells you how long a battery can power a motor and all motors run at full power until the battery is at 0%. If you're still using DSL 2.1, just use four ants. Second, try not to attach more than one skirt to a single hinge, I've been told a single hinge is not as wedgy.

Reply to badger: 50-70% of showcases have uncropped images. I have to argue, not editing helps more  than hurts the image. It shows the weight of the robot without needing to edit.

Oh my god, stop being so lazy! Just include the weight of the robot in the edited image, ya turkey! 50-70% of showcases have uncropped images, ey? Well, seeing as I'm the one who stores all the images for BOTM, let's see if this is true...

...Aaaaand no. Not even close. In fact, only 21% of images are uncropped, and that's mainly because of the influx of noobs as of late, and because [cringey name goes here] spammed a bunch of uncropped images in Replicas, which he got heavy, HEAVY flak for. In fact, removing [cringey name goes here]'s spammage reduces the number down to a measly 9%, so you ain't fooling nobody with that claim, kid.

No excuse for laziness. Stop being ****ing lazy. You want people to bother giving feedback on your bots? Bother to edit the damn thing.

Not really.

You can get a much smaller chassis than it currently has by deleting a battery and mounting the drive motors on their sides. Also, 10 mm aluminium is kinda wasteful, and the supports for the weapon look pretty frail.
Title: Re: Dsl showcase
Post by: Badger on June 24, 2018, 09:47:11 AM
There's motor support, which is a good start. If you're using a big chassis, you'll want to skin it nicely to make it look alright. You should also make the disc supports meet the chassis at the edge of the chassis.

And, most importantly, build to a weight limit. You could probably get this bot down to a MW pretty easily.

Not a bad tomb clone but here is what I would change.
First you could use just one extender anchor for the weapon support as it would save weight and make it easier to get things lined up properly. also more supports are probably needed to make it realistic as well as moving them to the sides of the bot to look more natural. I would fix the colour scheme to make it just 2 colours rather than orange, yellow and red. Try to make it compact and dont waste so much space. To make it more unique give it side guards made of extenders and to make it less boxy

There's still a lot of empty space in that chassis, and the chassis is still a boring box with a bad skin. It's not a bad bot, it's just a very boring one that you could make interesting with some work.

Firstly I must say its rather boxy, by moving the front wheels back and sloping the front of the chassis you can make vetter use of the arm by making it on panel with 0 bends in it. Secondly, whilst I find the idea of tinting the splash to suit the name of the bot, I find it really of putting to look at and if youre able to post better internal shots of the bot, please do.

You can make much better use of the internal structure by pssibly rotating the batteries 90 degrees and moving them back ss far as you can, leavimg little empty space within the bot if you need to, widen the chassis a bit. Even without these changes you still have an extra 40kgs to use, remebering that the lighter bot will often be the one being shoved around due to the weight of the opponent may be a good idea, I suggest using this weight on wheelguards and/or front armour as thays where the contact of the bots will mainly be.

Hope I could assist.

You have like 48 Kgs left for anything.

Maybe some cleaner Tribar support, or a better front than some 2 wedgelets that kinda look out of place.

At least place some 45 degree black angles to make the tribar supports flush

Another shell spinner, second in my "Robot Combat Ripoffs" series, the first was High-Speed Steel. (unshowcased, in Caged Robot Combat League) Gets up to speed very slowly, but a beast when it does. Torquey, so AI can't drive it without running into walls. Drive: 4x SlimBody. Weapon: 3x Large Typhoon, cosmetic extender frame. Weapon Motor: Dual Perm. Batteries: 10x Ant Batteries. lichess i feel could have shorter panel wedges that aren't sticking out like that

crimson drone could do with tie-rods similar to sow

reaper-x i feel that if you have the weight, you could make the bar slightly wider and replace the typhoon teeth with the bar ends as they have the stats of large teeth now
