Title: Dreamcast's Showcase (DSL)
Post by: Dreamcast on March 03, 2017, 09:47:21 PM

It's armed with a lot of metal weapons driven on a MAG, powered by four ants and protected with steel 1. The turning is ghastly.

this better be a dsl 2.1 bot or else you have done literallly everything wrong for a 2.2 one  :dumb)

Are you in DSL 2.1 or DSL 2.2?

If you in DSL 2.2, use Other battery instead of Ant Battery (useless you want to use ant in antweight or bw (I don't know) or whatever)

I think it's technically both.

Alright then  :dumb)
Ant batteries are trash-tier in 2.2, one slim black battery will do the job of all of those ants for this bot. Razors and light DS teeth are awful now too as they have no HP, flails are pretty bad too since they have like no HP as well. Your best bet for a shell spinner would be to cram as many typhoon teeth/cutting teeth/ripping teeth on as possible (Large typhoon teeth and ripping teeth are better than the lighter/smaller ones, but you won't be able to spam up the shell as much)

It has Fast NPCs and Tite 3.

The poker must be invertible though.

You sure you can't make that invertible? Lower the chassis, reduce empty space, and swap wheels if necessary to get invertibility.

It pushes, rams and sorta whams. It's got almost no chassis armor though.

about that third bot... i have no idea what is it due to picture angles, a half-crawler ?

It was harder to control with a tiny chassis.

Do irons suck in 2.2?
Title: Re: Dreamcast's Showcase
Post by: Naryar on June 15, 2017, 10:36:21 AM
aaah, oldschool building. i appreciate it. sadly, DSL 2.2 is a bit different.

first the WP836E's are the best for 2WD bots. just use one, with one ant if you really need more batteries.

i'm sure you can make the chassis flatter and use hypnos, and I think hypnos are still grippier than shinies in DSL 2.2.

also that seems okay. I'm not certain how good irons are in 2.2, but i think they are decent at least.

For the SnS, I think you could improve it by using baseplate anchors over cube anchors. It'll give you 2KG for chassis armour or better wheels. I think you should also consider flipping the motors to point the other way.

I've been building more in DSL because AGOD is killing me in stock (nice waste of a few hours right there)

IIRC, it once hit for 13000 points on the first blow and averages around 5000. Tried to enter into MoD because I forgot about the component bans.

No clue what to spend the weight on, wheel guards? The robot also keeps turning to the left if I use these motors for some reason.

5 mm Alu, 6 mag gearbox, 32 irons, 1 serviceable robot (I guess)

I'll consider that, I'll try to reshape the chassis into a diamond and go from there.

Damn, you keep inspiring me.

For the popup, I'd use two bursts, and more weapons. Or you could do a NAR AI Razorback and make it a Popup/Wammer Hybrid...

If you can find anyway to get the bottm disc on your SS to cover your chassis, it would be even better.

Two different sit n spinners. I put alu 1 on both of them.

Alu 10 for now. I'm probably going to downgrade in order to get a wedge or something.

Plastic 3. Would be better with a wider wheelbase because it obviously knocks opponents to the left.

Alu3. Obvious ripoff.

248.0
Plastic 1. Uses regular NPCs, but it's still quick.

Plastic 5, more external defenses than before. Loves chewing down shell spinners and corners. The wedge is just kind of there.

also how is forward speed compared to turning speed ? does it suffer from overturning ?

You are correct about drive.

He turns fast and I didn't notice any major over steering, but the side opposite of the turn will lift off the floor slightly if the robots turns 180 degrees. This doesn't seem to effect performance because it is hard to not face an opponent when they're flying backwards OOTA.

With the hammer bot. Use panels instead of creating it all with extenders that will free up enough weight you 1 give more weapons and 2 give it a wedge.

might look better if you staggered the teeth across the shell panels, instead of having them all on the same plane

interesting design. How well does it work? The wedge isn't the best (kill me). But, the robot is stable on the ground. It took Grog like 2:00 to start killing the shell. I imagine IRL spinners will do slightly worse and cane be pushed around more.

Possibly. That or downgrading some of the armour panels as the 120x120 steel plate on the bottom is a big weight sink.

There's kids who walk their damn dog on my lawn and just leave the poop there, and they're always too quick for me - by the time I get out there to clobber them with my stick, they're gone. If I give you my spare shotgun, can you lie in wait for them whilst I continue with my daily routine undisturbed?

O_O you've got a lot of weight down there. I know it's IRL but I'd still want more weapon weight than that - could be the avenue you take.

SHW gimmick bot that's 1197.something kg. The spinning graspers trap the other robot and let the needle hit consistently I guess. The wheels in the shell are also a gimmick I thought was cool.

So if you can't tell by now, I'm mainly into making big crazy stuff when I play DSL-IRL.

It's HW with about 25 left.

It's a 1180+kg, at least 135cm tall. 6-Mag Motor powered spinner. There are only two mags for the drive,  :dumb). The wiring is not analog but I put spikes on both sides of the arms to make them appear fuller.

Can it go upright if it falls over

Can it go upright if it falls over

Probably not, because it doesn't spin very fast and because many HSs with 1 motor enjoy getting stuck like Mauler did.

You remember XX, that ugly robot from RoboGames 2? You probably though XX was ugly trash. Well, don't say anything bad about her, not if Mama can hear you.

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

Super XX is a double layered dumb box, as opposed to my usual dumb box. She's just under the SHW limit, so not everything is enclosed the way I want. Be cautious, she's about three feet tall, and her spinney... thingy, can kill.

Anybody watch Middleweight Mixup?

Copal Drive, TWM3R powering the spinner, and mostly aluminum for 391.0 kg total weight.

TWM3 drive, Tornado Mer Grearbox for the spinner, and a mix of steel and aluminum for ~795kg total weight.

Maybe it's not trash. 246.1 kg, regular NPCs, PL 3 was the most armor I could fit.

Could do with something protecting that chassis from popups.

Maybe remove those DSL bars?

I was suspicious of the bars, piglet is probably safe enough. I'll find a setup for the belly with that weight.

What? Dreamcast built IRL again? Not quite sure what the meta is now, I think three burst flippers are still good though.

I love this. It looks like the kind of bot art that would be on a knockoff Chinese robot toy. Like, all I see in my head is "Battlerobots" Or "Robot tussle"

Whoops, I forgot my description. The robot is mostly aluminum with independently wired titanium arms. There are two of the short and fat batteries stuffed into the chassis. The total weight is 1180.9kg

No, a knockoff toy you find for like 3 bucks on Ebay somewhere

4wd SHW with a dangerously disemboweling poking spinner. A tad slow though.

Probably as undangerous as any robot I've made in this series. It has back skirts now though. You'll probably see it in the Parsec World Series where it will fail a jumping the pit. Some people on discord appear like this robot, so I may remake it.

The image is an 8-bit png for some reason ::badidea

I don't think I showed off the newer version of my Middleweight Mixup (edit: not madness) 1 entry. I do prefer this one by quite a bit. A third edition should be remade from the ground up.
