After my exceedingly unsuccessful bots in DSL tournaments I've entered, i'd thought I'd start up a showcase to get some valuable advice. Don't expect many bots here as I'm busy with school, and also Robot Rampage.
Open Cut
version A:
titanium 1mm chassis armor.
version B:

Constructive criticism welcomed and please post your thoughts on which one is better.
Thanks,
DragonFire

B is better.
It's cool-looking and well-built but i'm not sure about the combat efficiency with a not-so-tough weapon.
-
A has a good weapon and those wheel guards look awesome.
-
Try to put A's wheelguards on B. And those bar segments are on par with iron spikes.
-
Open Cut
Version C:
i had to down grade the drive to compensate for the additional weight of the new wheel guards.
Unborn Strike
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/20403unborn_strike.JPG)
1mm plastic,
not the best to be honest; doesn't look that good, and it does jump about for a bit...but it is my first ever antweight - give a guy a break...
-
I like the idea behind your AW, but is seems like it tilts backward very easily. I would shrink your weapon size to increase stability.
-
I like the new Open Cut.
-
Your ant would need a wedge, better weight distribution and more than 1mm plastic.
-
Hey guys, first new bot after re-taking up RA2. Here's my crude attempt at a LW:
Weaponry is a bit brittle, the wedges etc seem to hold up well in battle and it havocs a bit too often i think.
Also Titanium 3 mm.
Feedback would be great, cheers,
DF.
-
Use Hypnos for that drive, and don't use metal hinge wedges on top. Also, the wheel protectors are kinda unnecessary.
Other than that, :welcome
-
Welcome back buddyyyy long time no see bro
About the bot, the wedges aren't gonna do a whole lot of good like that. You need to make them flush with the ground in their default position to really get good results.
-
Apart from what those guys said, you might want to use a 6kg Master Hexplate rather than those 2 DSL Bars, to save some weight for MOAR RAZORS :P
Anyhoo, welcome back! I remember you leaving just as I was lurking/joining >.<
-
A wider stance is generally better for VS (to aid stability)

*Tempted to make a shameless plug to my showcase - ohwait I just have*
-
Reminds me of old-style DSL, like when you left. And could you re-upload the Robot Rampage vids? There's a bunch of broken links on the wiki now...
-
- Remove wheel guards
- Skirts on top, no hinges
- Hexplate much?
[okay]Other than that, good job! :D[/okay]
And hi.

I can't seem to find this 6kg hexplate that can attach to the axle :S
-
It can't attach to magmotors in normal DSL.
-
Extras, Weapon Slave in the dropdown.
(edit) Never mind.
-
hmm... i see... so am i supposed to be using a abnormal version?
-
If you want your bot to be illegal, you can use NAR AI.
-
Try this setup, vertically

-
Ah, forgot they can't be attached to mags, sorry. But you'll find them in the 'extras' section anyhow. You can attack them by first attaching an ant sawblade to the mag then adding the hexplate.
-
Yeah.
Thats what I was meant to have posted, the thumbnail was too small -_-
Sorry...
-
Off topic- Technos. On a lw. O.O
On topic- Hmm, you could possibly make a drum out of it. Or what craaig said.
-
Ah i see thanks guys, will give these suggestions a whirl :)
-
Alright, here we go. Added in the hexplate, hypno wheels and the skirt hinge. also made the chassis just that bit more air tight.
Same armour as before (Tite 3mm)

How long are the top and bottom skirts?
-
:O DRAGONFIRE IS BACK!!!
I won the tournament tributed to you :P
Awesome to have you back building.. do you speak to MV much these days? would be nice to have him pop back online too... I have missed having him online too..
-
Almost forgot...
Make the bottom skirts on metal hinges and make them longer than the top skirts.
-
The bottom skirts aren't really skirts; they're just there to prop up the front so that it is stable and ensure the razors don't hit the ground.
EDIT: Don't really talk to MV nowadays I'm afraid.
-
It looks rather clean. Nice job on the motor guard.
-
thanks :), the problem though is that it isn't that protective; rammers drive up my wedges and smashes it off. I was thinking of having a static weapon somewhere in case that does happen, but i'm not sure where...
-
Download NAR AI 1. Its Naryar's AI Pack for DSL and is arguably the most challenging one out there.
-
PYS?
-
Thats for stock.

One of my attempts for a robot to enter Replica wars. This is one I didn't use; It was seriously underweight and it doesn't have that much weaponry.
The executioner:

Cute :3
You can probably make it larger so it's proportional to a medium plow (which you can use as your wedge/scoop). :D
-
That looks really cool. :3
Just follow Pwn's advice for the snowplow to fit.
-
Looks good but I agree on the lack of weapons.
-
are you ganna enter that in replica wars?

Not that particular version- he had his doubts about the weight and lack of weaponry.
Even still, you looking forward to Replica Wars?

Yea, ok, might do that at some point :)
Thanks for the compliments guys really appreciate the comments! :claping
@ GoldenFox93 : Looking forward to it very much - have been away a long time and I love entering competitions...even if I always lose in the first round :baby_smily:

Well, it's good to see you back and on form for entering another tourney
Anyway, Rep Wars? I've refined my entry to be particularly good at manouvering about and tossing opponents into the air. So hopefully, judging by most of the entries I've heard of, I should get at least one of two out of the arena
-
nice, sounds good! Good luck :)

Bass Drum?
-
Noooot exactly convincing.
Would make a good washing machine, though. :P
-
I still need ideas...
-
None the less, looks cool.
-
Cool, but awfully inefficient
-

I think this is intended for the whole "replica" thing.
It's sorta like me making a bunny.

Ah, okay. Didn't read Yoda's thread when I made this comment.

agreed. Though, the damage causing "soundwaves" are brilliant.
I think the drum needs to be deeper to be more replica like. It would be kinda cool if the kick part was actually on a snapper and actually functioned during battle (even if it didn't do damage). :D
-
thanks guys,
@ Jack Daniels: I'll see if i can play around with the weight :P
-
gotta agree, make it deeper. Unless you're going for an electronic bass drum. :P
And yes!! make the foot pedal functioning. That would complete it.
-
made it a tad deeper, but can't add the functioning pedal - it would make it too ineffective at combat.
-
Personally I'd flip it around and make the bass pedal the into a hammer. Says the guy who made a grand piano.
Still very nice though.
