So, finals are coming and i won't be posting that much for the following 30 days. So i decided to post something a "bit" different. Not battle effective though:

Meet the walker bot. A prototype that i plan to improve in the future but not expecting to win any battle. I included a video of its walking performance. Please ignore the empty space as it's just a test. I hope you like it

Hi all! It's been another while. My exams are coming to an end. I just got one more next Tuesday and i'm free (thank god).

Ok... Lets see, during my spare time in between study hours I've been thinking and trying to design new walkers and new walking ways but honestly it's the most frustrating thing to build. I guess i've built about 10 or more walkers but only 2 had actually some walking capabilities. The working walkers are in the video, the pics are fails that i didn't delete yet.

I made various types of walkers and i was trying hard to make a walker with sideways legs, replicating insects and arachnids. All have failed miserably just because the legs are disposed sideways so there's no force applying to the chassis vertically so the legs can't stand the bots weight no matter how light the chassis is.

Incredibly the prototype has the best walking of any walker I've created so far, being the most stable.

Here are some fails(the only ones i didn't delete):

This walker was the only one with sideways legs and was actually capable of standing but it was incapable of walking. It had some glimpses of hope but never worked properly.

This one was made to replicate the At-St walking chicken from Star Wars. The number of attempts to make it work were endless. The last thing i did were those huge supports just to see if it could walk forward at all. It couldn't, the legs just slipped sideways. I made various part changes, different weights and such, wheels.... But same results.

This one has a funny story. Just for curiosity i was hoping to make a centipede that walked on pistons. Not only it didn't walk but it actually flew, upside down. I laughed so hard when i saw this thing take off and never touching the ground. Now that's an interesting thing to do in real bots as an evasion tactic.

This one is the last i did and it is still in works. Like the 1st fail bot, it might just have some hope but could be false hopes. The original feet were much more "bipedal future like war bot" feet but then i had to change and test different way to make it balance. It doesn't fall but it doesn't walk either.

So the video: there is the At-At Imperial Walker, which i suppose everybody know what it is is the only one of my designs which has a similar walking feature as the prototype. The At-At was made with the purpose of being the most realistic as possible just like in the movies with slow and heavy steps. after watching some videos and animations i could see that it walked one foot at a time trusting in its own weight to push it forward. Unfortunately it could not be literally replicated, otherwise it wouldn't be able to walk at all. So i had to make it walk 2 legs at a time like in the prototype.
There's also the crocodile, which is more complex. It has more moving parts. I wasn't worried with the looks but i wanted it to actually work. It took quite some time. The walking motion needs a very accurate rhythm and precision, which was only achieved at the end of the clip.

The video has been recently published so it still might not work

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuaU5KkdWws&feature=youtu.be#ws

In my personal opinion so far nothing has beaten the prototypes walking. I never actually reviewed its design except for the At-At. I might return to the good old wheeled vehicles because walkers are seriously frustrating to build. Once i get a good amount of inspiration for it then I'll go back to walkers. Right now i need to build something that kills, lol.

I knew I was gonna love the AT-AT as soon as you said "AT-AT".  Then, along came the crocodile and my jaw dropped.   That's completely awesome.  This quickly became one of my favorite showcases.

Personally, I could never get a walker to work even half as good as your original prototype one, not for lack of trying.   Would've loved to see the AT-ST style working, but something tells me bipedal walkers are an impossibility in this game.  Looking forward to you proving me wrong.
Survival of the Fittest Is Finished!  Congratulations 090901

That crocodile will go down in RA2 history as the single coolest bot ever built.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

If the croc's tail could swivel like the head can then it would be even more awesome than it already is. But I doubt it will go with the Rule of 7 so never mind.

I don't think crocodiles can swivel their tails like that anyways....so it would detract from the awesomeness IMO.

That crocodile is utterly mad. I must attempt to build one now, only with wheels. It would be even better if the tail were to swing both ways as well.
