no, learn to build efficiently before going on to irl.

you only need 3-4 ants for this, despite what each description of the components say spin motors only use 10 amps each, the rest of the weight can be used on weapons
if youre going to use a skirt hinge wedge only use the center attachment point, using the others will make the wedge crap, that is if you feel the need to make a wedged single hs to begin with.

He means to try efficient building in DSL before just going straight for IRL building.

I spy more than 3 or 4 ants on that, and what is the single iron spike doing?

Not bad for a first bot, IRL or not.

Should probably make it invertible (aka to where it can drive or move up-side-down), in the case of wheel choice, I'll give you this guide.

https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5739.0.html (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5739.0.html) It has basic stuff in there like power, drive (meaning motor + wheels) and so on. For other advice I'll leave it to better builders than I.

Good advice and all, but you could at least have said it's a good first bot for a newbie....

4 ants should spin it at high power for 3 mins.

If you don't win in 3-5 minutes, then it's either a stalemate or you've just lost... But anyway 3 ants is perfect for such a bot and 4 ants to just play it safe is pretty fair too, but like 9 ants on a bot with just 3 spin motors is just overkill.

If you downgrade the armour you could probably get titanium halfsheet protection on the bottom (theres one ap that lets you attatch halfsheets to the bottom of the chassis)

Only if the chassis is not minimum height.

Mag weapon motors have 400hp, never expose them. Only use the middle AP of a skirt hinge for a wedge or the wedge will suck (I'm sure we said this before but meh). Never use angle connectors, they have something like 100hp. Be clever with all of the extender APs. Use grippier wheels than rubbers (hypnos are a good choice on LWs and with limited space, otherwise use technos).

Looks a lot like Industrial Coal Miner, I assume that's where the idea came from. Looks cool though.

I would recommend changing the angle connectors for even just extenders (1 20cm extender mounted on it's side could replace your 90 degree thing and the 22.5 one too), and also you could milk a little extra weight out of it by changing the baseplate anchors for the more useful, and lighter, red and black multi-extenders. Just a few tips, there are more, but see what you can do from there :)

Post by: CameraFan on November 29, 2012, 12:25:23 AM
You don't need the spikes at the back. The AI only attack the back if you leave it exposed. Use multi extenders instead of baseplate anchors, even though you won't need them in this bot after removing the back spikes. You might be able to get some better wheels or something with the extra weight. Use this link to learn the basics if you haven't already:

you have absurdly high chassis armor.
fixed.
I'm pretty sure you don't need armour that high, especially when you have such a small amount of weapons.
And if steel teeth = shark teeth, don't use them. Their hitbox is so small it makes everyone cry. At the very least you want light DS teeth but they won't last very long on a HW so preferably use something more durable.

Anything more than 3 ants on a 2wd sns is serious overkill. And even then 2 is usually fine.
And if you're using NPC fasts, then i'd make a chassis like a zig zag tetris block and mount them on the chassis to stop them getting knocked off easily.

I think that chassis could be made more smaller by attaching NORMAL NPCs (Not NPC Left/ NPC Right, they have lower hitpoints IIRC) on outside.

You can just make it smaller and fit NPCS left and rights in the chassis

The back stabilizer's fine, just make it shorter, increase the front stabilizer's angle to 50 degrees, and get a half-sheet to protect your bot's bottom.

well it happens but it doesn't the force of the weapon sends it backwards and goes unstable but the back stabilizer is more a shock absorber

1. Stop trying to advise people who are better than you. At the moment it's making you look incredibly stupid. For one, that is clearly a mid mounted full titanium sheet.
2. 80% of your advice has been poor.
3. Just stop until you can build better. Honestly. It's painful looking at your "advice".

how the heck is having the same motor/battery power as another bot cloning? i seriously hate this kind of attitude. yes originality is key for good bot building but theres no need to be a nazi about it while hes still learning.

about the bot: halfsheets are not exactly the best frontal protection. i would suggest something along the lines of fullsheets, heavy plows (2000 fracture makes them god-their) or firestorm flippers if you can deal with their sh**ty AP

This particular newbie is in the learning phase of Ra2 building, and needs to learn what a good popup is. Cloning is a very good learning tool in the learning phase, but it needs to be discarded later.

also BBB is obviously aiming for efficiency in this bot, not originality. Therefore, Gauche Suede's advice is not only good but in context, which is quite rare. Both of your whacking is not only useless but out of context.

Besides, I find it jarring that you two jump on him when Gauche Suede gives better and more advice than both of you, even if it is generic.

Slight drive overkill for a MW VS. Ever so slightly. Due to this I'm assuming that he's using a perm 80, otherwise he's magically conjured up weight from somewhere. And sledges are not a good choice for wedged VS, since wedged VS want to get under and gutrip, not punt the opponent away so they have to risk the wedge war all over again.

And if he wants a wedge he'll need some form of stabiliser at the back so it doesn't tip over during a wedge war and gyro for a bit. Unless you want it to gyro.

What does (The SCP not the bot) The Black Box do again? I forgot...

If you're going for an IRL bot, it'll need to have sort of a theme to it, and sure having a box entirely black is pretty theme-y to the name, you'll have to do a little better than that.

And while it is an improvement, it still isn't that good of an IRL bot... it's barely IRL if I'm honest

Hey, that's not so bad.

Ignore Badnik; swap the iron tips for pointy tips or the pointy spikes (whatever the one with the different lengths is I really can't remember) and make the skin a little better, the stock plastic skin is so tacky. Maybe give it a lightning-esque color scheme and keep the flag on top.

That's because when you set the forward heading in the bot lab, it sets that side as the nose of the bot. When the chassis turns, it causes the game to think the entire bot has turned.

I think I'm explaining this right.

No builder in the world has ever utilized a building technique that is widely unused, giving that builder's robot an advantage?

That's not the point, the skirt hinge he has there is just unrealistic in general. If you wanna get technical, there's absolutely nothing holding the two end skirts to the baseplate or even the bot, so it should be as easy to break as a twig, but clearly this isn't the case.

The middle one is borderline acceptable but it'd still look bad with it there. My advice? Make the front of the chassis longer so the wedge is longer and the bot doesn't look so snubby without the skirt hinge.

Since you really like the SCP Foundation, why not make a bot with a SCP-055 (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-055) theme? For example, to represent the anti-meme functions of 055, you could make the bot a superfast pusher or a hammer bot in which the hammer is concealed within the chassis.

There isn't that big of a chance that a bot has the ground clearance small enough to be completely hoisted and unable to move on those small spikes, nor a chance that those lifters on the side will actually get under something wide enough, or a chance that lifters that small will have enough leverage to actually pick up anything. Even if the blue moon does rise and the tide is high, that bot still wouldn't do any real damage other than taking the other bot to arena hazards, which is 1) useless if there are none and 2) takes a longer time then a HS/VS takes to rip a massive chunk out of a bot.

So yes.

I actually just watched a video of both Pyramadroid and Probophobia in combat and Probophobia looks pretty effective, but, it's longer than Automoton and is more narrow.

I don't want to further this argument, in starting it I realized I wasn't in the best of moods and now I kinda regret it.

I also just saw the Cyclone vs Probophobia vs Spin Doctor video. Though it did win, its win was kind of contributed to the unreliability of Cyclone's and Spin Doctor's blades (stopping up after hitting probo).

Well there was Pyramadroid from Battlebots which his strategy was to trap or lift other bots and take 'em to the hazards and he won a couple fights.

PyRAMidroid won like literally 1 non-FF fight in its entire career, and it wasn't a hazard victory. The only time it even made it to a battle with hazards active it was annihilated by MOE.

Voltronic and The Probe are much better examples of robots that had a similar strategy.

If you drop the drive to Normal NPCS or tw3rs with mini wheels you should be able to get a flame thrower.

center that and the skirt wedge a bit better and you should be good. A better skin could be nice, too.

Ranged weaponry is unmanly when you have the accessories to make a bot that can do damage by brute force!

I actually dislike how the flamethrowers don't go in the baseplate and that's mostly what's keeping me from using them

NEVER just use FRAPS, the video is completely uncompressed and will take an age to upload, simply importing into a program such as Movie Maker and exporting (and adding music if you want) will drastically lower the file size.

Sony Vegas is a very good and simple video/sound editing tool. I currently use version 8 although the latest is already 12.

You will find the full software of any version in any Torrent site.

Trying using a flippermaker instead of an extender for that disc support.

With the wide edge laid flat against the blade, it'll look more realistic.

Put these side spikes closer to the front of the bot so that they're not totally useless as a HS defense.

Personally I think it'd look cool if you had, instead of those skirt underneath the flippermakers, another skirt hinge rack of flat flippermakers, and then adjust the positions so the top rack does the wedging but it looks like 1 large wedge rather than a rack of flippermakers over a bunch of skirts.

I think people generally use component freedom to make the bot, and then BFE the disc to be lower down in the centre of the bot's chassis.
