AlexGRFan97's craptacular DSL showcase
« on: December 10, 2012, 11:12:27 AM »
Well, where to start this. I think I might begin by leaving my second piston-flipper test here, armed with 3mm Titanium which I have named the unfortunate name of "MW02", which stands for "MiddleWeight Dioxide". Doesn't make sense I know. It can cheat compete rather competitively with nearly all of the Realism AI bots, all of the stock AI bots, most of the DSL bots, and a few token LWs and MWs from NAR AI. No points for guessing what real robot it's based on.

Also, those horns actually have a purpose. When I'm under another robot, they can tear into it's underside and score points.

Hi there.
I'm pretty sure that setup isn't as effective as it should be due to that long extender arm, if you move the piston closer to the front you should get a better flip out of it, and it would aid in self righting.
And if possible i'd get 4wd, and use multiextenders to attatch the wedges on rather than a baseplate extender.

Even if it's an IRL bot, it's good to keep with DSL building practices - 1 ant per spin motor, pistons only need air (so you could take out the battlepack and add an ant), and use the blue control board. slightly larger but 1kg lighter. Use Multi-Extenders instead of Baseplate Anchors (their smaller, more useful, and weigh less) and you don't need the extenders between the baseplate anchors/shell panels if you move the baseplate item close to the edge, similarly with the piston.

Also you could try using a storm burst instead of the piston youre currently using. It's got a short length but is more powerful.
Finally, beating stock AI bots with a DSL bot is nothing good - stock bots have much much worse armour stats and the components are much much weaker, just because DSL was made with everything much more durable.

Yeah this robot was more of an experiment than an actual competitor, and I put "cheat" when I was referring that it could beat all stock robots, as I know it's cheating. But yeah, I'll try fixing it up.

It's unnecessarily huge. Make a smaller chassis.

i tried something like this with the custom "rocket jets" it worked alright.

just some general stuff;

putting your wheels up front will give the robot a smaller turning circle.

try to build as small as possible to save weight so you can use it elsewhere.

Well, here's the updated version MW0Two. It now has 4wd, a slightly smaller chassis, a closer to the front piston and a larger CO2 tank. It's a lot quicker and better against opponents but now has a higher ground clearance on the side. Also, the Storm Burst was too strong and havoked majorly, even in the bot lab. I think it may have to be a CW or HW in order to add more protection to the sides and maybe even a srimech.

And if possible i'd get 4wd
2wd npc fasts > 4wd mags

chassis is still gigantic, you could probably trim atleast 5-10 or more kg off of that

If you want weapons on the front, use razors. Pole spikes have normals which means they only deal damage on the tip while razors have no normals.

Yes but razors don't look all that IRL in comparison to pole spikes. Your choice, buddy :)

Nice to see you showcasing on here, I might add

Oh it's mister resize my images  :p. Raise up your drive motors for less ground clearance and get a smaller chassis.

Well, about time I updated this. I need help. I'm trying build a bot with interchangeable weaponry, yet the base keeps veering to the right whenever I'm driving. I've checked the controls and nothing's wrong, is there a component I put on the wrong way? I could put it on the BotExchange if anyone wants to have a go at fixing it.

Game calculates the weight distribution of the robot at the time you put on the wheels and it freezes it there. If your bot is heavier on one side it will veer to that side

Yeah, you're gonna want to reattach the wheels. I like the internal symmetry though.

Yeah, it happens sometimes.

also is that a HW base ? Because you're gonna need stronger motors than that. Go NPC or NPC fast.

You also remind me of Goldenfox in posting style, with less drama. Hmmm... IP check tells me you're not him, so don't mind me.

Well the omnibot is an MW, and I've already built them and now I just have to skin them. Meanwhile, since Badnik built one, here is my attempt at building an LW with a 4wd NPC drivetrain, which I have given the cheap name of "To Me" (due to my limited photo editing skills):
