Title: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: akshaylan on August 15, 2013, 03:33:27 PM
So I've been on this website for a while, but I never got into the building whilst taking into account all of the stats of the components. I always looked more into modding and mainly the UI (Look at the RW 2013 AI thread by WhamettNuht). I thought I might as well make a showcase so here is what I had entered into BB7 as a HW:
It did allright for my first entry into a tournament. Looking back though I know I'm probably going to get slaughtered for having too much empty space.

You better remove the long black batteries.

Yeah, those batteries fail in dsl 2.1, just replace them with ants.

Post by: akshaylan on August 15, 2013, 03:57:24 PM
There are already 3 ants there, from what I've seen since I built this you don't need any more than that for a 3 spin motor robot. So remove the long batteries and leave it there?

Just realised that my RA2 has just got the temp.cfg
I'll fix my game tomorrow probably

Post by: helloface on August 15, 2013, 04:46:20 PM
The rule is a MINIMUM of 1 ant per motor. 1 ant per motor would charge it for 1 minute. I reccomend 5 or 6 ants, no longs.
EDIT: Also your extender work is sloppy. Read Naryar's extender tutorial.

^Says the guy who has some of the worst extender work on the forum

Loving the Nintendo decal on the back. Extender work honestly isn't that bad, and the ski armor is pretty bossin. Looking forward to seeing more of your bots.

Nice bot. Nice use of the Ski's as armor.

First off, no long blacks. They suck. Big Time. Ants are gud fo' dat.

What armor?

When you remove the long batteries, you can use the 40 kilos to better armour.

Followed your tips, mainly just banish the long black batteries :

Changed Stuff:
-Wheels changed from micros to hypnos
-Removed long black batteries and added 4 more ants
-Tidied up frame for the weapon
-Wheel guards are now made from DSL bars rather than flipper makers
-Beater bar arrangement on weapon changed due to more space made available by changing the frame
-Added Srimech
-Armour decreased from Steel10 to Titanium10

Now I'm just worried that the srimech is using the wrong motor; is there anything that would work better? Maybe BSGs?
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase

Now I'm just worried that the srimech is using the wrong motor
Yep. The best srimech motor in this case is the Perm. It's a VS, so might as well use that momentum to flick itself back up.

That, coupled with a larger armor drop (something like 3mm Ti or 5mm Pla should do) would give you more weight to work with (probably a larger chassis or a larger bot overall).
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: Merrick on August 16, 2013, 10:58:31 AM
Perhaps a slot for the srimech? I'll agree with the use of skis as armour. Nice and original. I like it.  :thumbup

I was thinking of maybe putting something on the paint similar to what BackSlash had in Stock, not a large black slot but sort of seams where the panel would rise IRL
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: Merrick on August 16, 2013, 11:19:20 AM
Yeah, that would probably work too. I'm not keen on large black stripes all over robots just for the sake of realism so something different can't harm.
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: Shield on August 16, 2013, 11:59:52 AM
10mm Tit. Is overkill. There's no use for your bot to be tough if it gets disarmed too quickly.

Reduce the armor to perhaps 5mm Tit. Should give you enough weight for more weapons perhaps. Maybe another perm?

But, I actually like it. It's real nice, very clean. But most larger VS will most probably destroy it.

And what Pwn said. Ditch the Mag Snapper (BSG's are better, they're lighter and have the same power as Mags) the perm should be able to flick your bot back up should you lighten up the armor.

Another Update, Sacrificing the look of the current skin!  :(
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/69285DeathIncarnateV2.png)

Changes Made
-Armour changed from Titanium 10 to Titanium 5
-Srimech improved, 2 BSGs angled for quick self righting
-Put small wedges on the srimech, works very well!
-Added 2 battlepacks to compensate for the burst motors
-Used remaining weight to increase the size of the beater bars on the disc
-Small DSL teeth on the back of wheel guards - just thought it might work.

Would you still count this legal for battlebots? I'm a little concerned with the skis being intersected (maybe a slot could be cut, it doesn't go all the way through. Otherwise I could remove the front ski.)
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase

Yeah the skis should be fine. Liking the srimech/flipper things.

The wheels are too exposed, and if it supposed to be IRL the motors could use some support. Other than that, not too bad.

While I like the design, the wedge looks pretty ugly. Try to fix that up if you can. Also an actual skin would be nice.

Haven't posted in this for a while...
I've been thinking of entering the Tokyo Olympic Tournament and I've made my LW. Just wondering, what are the best drive motors for BWs and do you have any tips on building them?

Really the best motors for beetleweights depend on what kind of bot you're making, though I will say for an HS or VS I'd recommend Astroflights.

*inb4 Nary or 123 says I'm wrong*

*inb4 Nary or 123 says I'm wrong*

"bawwww i'm badnik and no one likes nor understands me on this forum"

no actually you are right, af's are just fine for HS/VS BW.

Beetleweight motors... depends of what your bot needs. Generally anything heavier than a TWM3 is completely overkill. TWM3 is for fast rammers, mostly.
Slimbody is the best motor overall I believe.
astroflight or copal for things that have heavy weapons. You may get randomly immobilized though.
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: Mr. AS on September 18, 2013, 07:03:32 PM
i prefer copals for HS and astros for VS. considering the BW for RA2O:T is IRL though, i would recommend a astro or even a slimbody if you want it to roll around at the speed of sound and wreck some nerds.

Havoking problem is becoming more frequent. I've come to the conclusion that it's something to do with the weapon because when I took it off it was completely fine. I also tried a weapon set up with a small drum, two 20x40 DSL bars and two medium beater bars, same problem :(
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: helloface on September 24, 2013, 02:17:19 PM
Hmm... That's odd.

Oh well, lets just call it an art bot.
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: ty4er on September 24, 2013, 02:22:28 PM
its because of how small it is, and because of the wedge/hinge. that many axles on such a small bot isn't a good idea. you can either make it wider or get rid of the wedge (which would probably mean you would have to make it bigger anyway, but it would look better)

anyway, i don't really like it being called irl, because its clearly trying to be somewhat effective whilst compromising the looks or other things. make it look better and i'll be happier.
also you can replace the baseplate anchor with a raised multiextender, which you can then rotate if you want.
Title: Re: Akshaylan's showcase
Post by: akshaylan on September 24, 2013, 02:28:36 PM
Is it possible to angle the motor forward with a multi-extender? or do you mean just keep the weapon flat?

Fairly sure the top spinners are intersecting, so unrealistic by standard standards. Otherwise it looks pretty good to me, though I'm not sure how effective the side spinners would actually be.

I like this bot, but it's gonna fail horribly without external armor and more weapons. Add some, remove chassis armor.

Get these teeth outside the bot. Else they're not gonna hit anything.

What Naryar said, you need these teeth outside of the bot.

But for flamethrowers, should be a perfect bot for death cloudis to chew up.
