Hi there!
This is my first DSL TC robot showcase. Feel free to leave comments!
Three bots in one Month:
11 ants 3 battlepacks. for maximum flipper power
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/Hammerstorm-1.png)
same as Plow-Batt. only the Beta Geared and a DSL Hammer 4
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/GutRipper.png)
6 ants 2 NPCs Perm 80 S large beater bars and light DS tooth for underside ripping.
-
sorry about that the internet I was using was disconnected so there was a delay.
-
Just cleaning up your showcase.
Anyways you obviously lurked and that's a good thing. That's very solid building for a newcomer, actually far better than some people are building after a few months here... *cough*
#1 is OK, although a bit messy. Make a simpler flipper, you need much more batteries as well and maybe less armor.
#2 is good, but there are some slightly unefficient parts. Try to save weight on your extender work. The ramplates and wheel protectors are mostly useless. As the robot X caster as well.
#3 is your best bot so far and I must say pretty good, although try and build realistic next time => we don't like weapons going through motors like it is tolerated in stock. Maybe your armor could be made better.
I must say I am impressed. If you start like this, you may become one of the good builders quickly.
-
only the Beta Geared
thats the spin motor one right ? the one limited to 180 degrees ? cuz you only need 1-2 ants for those
and for the 3rd one use the other side of the perm so it's realistic
-
OK Gut Ripper looks pwnsome. I don't really like the flipper's setup though, it could be less messy.
-
A really good start. Just listen to Naryar and you'll be fine.
-
Just an experiment bot cause I miss robotwars and the house robots.
same as Sergeant Bash's weaponry 360 degree turret w/ flamethrower. only the saw in front was differnt.
3 puma co2 meds low power dsl servo and a piglet for the saw.
-
just make it a clamp
-
Nice! I Like the 360 flame turret.
-
UPDATE!
better weapons and clamp added. 360 degree turret is unchanged.
2 cheatbot components: Razer Claw snapper & stock flamethrower.
-
You may want to use the stock cheatbot2 flamethrower for it...
-
I used the BFFF in my previous version but anyways its just for fun.
just wanna see it to be a house robot
-
That is awesome as heck man.
-
thanks I updated it
-
Needs a bigger chassis and external wheels.
-
Bash never had a wedge, and is there a saw in the back? Seems pretty good right now though.
-
Bash never had a wedge
well it had a small crusher on the front but it most certainly wasnt a metal hinge, i think it *might* be better with a static hworf spike as a wedge and one sir k claw instead of 2
-
Glad to see you trying to make a replica of sgt bash.
(there is matilda and growler and sir killalot in dsl and nfx made shunt)
-
I also made Dead Metal. :gawe:
Sergeant Bash is one of the tricker reps to make look appealing, in my view, more or less entirely due to the chassis shape. The rest of it, though, shouldn't really be too difficult, as opposed to bots like Shunt and Dead Metal, which have a lot of extraneous components and assorted theatricals. As long as you can get the chassis to look decent, you should be alright with it, as long as you know which components to use.
Also, the saw on the back was only there for the first two series, along with a ramming spike thing on the front. From series 3 onwards, the cutting/crushing jaws replaced the spike, and the petrol-driven sawblade was swapped for a purely aesthetic, static one.
-
I will try to maximize the chassis and the drivetrain ASAP.
also another DSL bot.
-
here it is I tried my best to improve it.
I hope I got it right this time
-
That, looks damn cool.
-
I like it! It's Sgt. Bash's son! :approve:
-
(http://images.wikia.com/robotwars/images/c/cd/Sgt-bash.gif)
This is sgt bash IRL.
-
(http://images.wikia.com/robotwars/images/c/cd/Sgt-bash.gif)
This is sgt bash IRL.
Yes, well, I think 12YOP just carefully looked at this pic before building, so what's the point of posting it ?
-
yeah I know you might hate it in some other way but NFX was right it was very tricky to make the chassis.
thanks ;)
-
Wheels are not fully exposed and there is wheelguards on sgt bash
-
Wheels are not fully exposed and there is wheelguards on sgt bash
I find it funny that you could probably hardly do any better.
-
Wheels are not fully exposed and there is wheelguards on sgt bash
So what? It's not a replica.
-

Shut up. Grop expresses a valid criticism, and then you go and insult him ? Way to be constructive. By the way, you just have been smitten.
Wheels are not fully exposed and there is wheelguards on sgt bash
So what? It's not a replica.
It certainly seems to be.
-
just made another bot. named it Flux.
6 ants npcf perm EL 30x40 dsl bars & 30 t 20... ugh...
can flip some HWs.
I immobilized Shogun in a weird way...
-
you probably only need 4-6 ants unless you have any burst motors in there that i cant see
-
Definitely too many batteries. 3 Ant Batteries is enough (RA2 Physics Is Crap), but 4 will give you more longevity, and that'll save you a huge chunk of weight to add more weaponry. 2 beater bars is nowhere near enough. If you swap all the Battlepacks for 4 ants, swap the cuting teeth on the back for 40cm poly skirts (attach them at an angle so they still keep the front down), and use a straight 120x20 DSL bar, that will save you enough weight for a pair of 50kg hammers. They will be MUCH better than the pair of Beaters you have right now.
-
Built some IRL Flipper.
Meet Virus Detected!
4 ants 2 npc's judge burst. teh cutting tooth was put on a purpose to ease the self righting.
too bad I got poor skinning skill :(
-
That's actually a pretty decent design. Reminds me of Taur a little bit. See when you've got weapons like that, it's a bit better if you have one shot of the flipper down, as well as up, so we can see how it matches up with the rest of the bot. As well as see things you've put on it, such as the cutting tooth we can't see at the moment. I'd definitely try to get a few more batteries in there, at least. Maybe 7 or 8 would be the target for you, perhaps drop the armour a little.
-
Very nice, I hope you can continue to build IRL-style bots of quality. I love the flipper design.
-
its like a mini cop out <3
-
another IRL bot. Sweeeeeet!!
I know overkill wedge is a cheatbot part but it is effective. SHW bot. Wedge-flamethrower bot :D
-
That is a SHW ? It's very underweaponed and a bit slow.
Also overkill wedge isn't cheatbot2, unless there are 2 different overkill wedges in DSL and you used the cheatbot2 one.
-
i dont know if it is slow 4 npc fasts...
you mean I have to upgrade to 6WD and 6NPC fasts?
-
another IRL bot. Sweeeeeet!!
I know overkill wedge is a cheatbot part but it is effective. SHW bot. Wedge-flamethrower bot :D
If Nyx2 and Gray matter had baby,it will be a this robot
-
Do like. Great work getting the wheelguards to match the wheels, it's small details like that that really make an IRL bot. Overkill Wedge is a standard component, I think, so you're fine there. If you dropped a couple of ants, one of the air tanks, and dropped the armour, I'm pretty certain you could get it down to HW. Seriously, where's all the weight gone?
-
overkillwedge is very heavy and those npcf's are also.
dropping some components might work.
-
I think downgrading at least 2 npcf`s would be ok.. on the other hand those are just 10 kg but if it helps to get in to the HW devision it wont hurt.
-
Very cool, and that's not too slow at all!
-
I wanna try to AI it to see its effectivenes. But, I dunno how to AI :(
trying to learn that ryt now...
-
overkillwedge is very heavy and those npcf's are also.
dropping some components might work.
Overkill wedge is 200kg, IIRC, but even so, I've got the components adding up to 641kg. That leaves you 159kg for armour, which should be plenty. Even Plastic 3 will be fine on this, I reckon.
-
oh CR**!!
thats why.. I used the 400 KG one not the 200
-
Yes the standard overkill wedge is 200. Well I thought it was 400.
-
ok I tried to simulate mecanum wheels such as alcoholic stepfather's.
takes practice to perfect the controlling and is very hard to control
-
Good idea. So can you make it work?
-
Good idea. So can you make it work?
i just tried this and the movement is nearly uncontrollable, it may be possible to get them to work but tbh it's not worth it IMHO
-
Interesting design.
Try 2 standard drive wheels and 2 wheels facing the ground.
-
no bots for this moment.
Didnt realize I can post and browse the GTM site using a mobile phone :]
-
Warmonger, an IRL VS
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/Warmongerbot.png)
7 ants twmr drive & cleprechaun blade. I had no choice for the disc. and a 40kg ballast at the back to keep the back portion down.
395.. KG
-
Nice. I have worries on that disc's reach though...
-
nice, if you use an angled flipper segment you can get the disk lower to the ground and get more reach. You can also put a 40cm skirt on the middle ap of the flipper segment infront of the drive to help stop tipping (provided the rule of 7 doesn't screw stuff up)
How's self-righting?
-
That's not IRL. No such bot exists IRL that could be so cute. The builder would have died of adorableness.
-
Looking quite good. Can we get a rear 3/4 view at all? It's quite tricky to work out how it looks from that angle. If you lost the ballast at the back, and perhaps added some Cutting Teeth or something on those side panels, so they'd look like claws, that might help with the tipping problem slightly.
-
I changed some things like the weapon tooth and a large DSL disc. I personally don't really like the previous one.
sorry for calling it "IRL".
-
How's self-righting?
its ok when it plays as an AI bot.
-
That is looking fantastic now. Would look better with some added perm supports, but never mind.
-
where have you been all this time D:
it really looks awesome
-
Looks really cool man. RA2 Olympics?
-
RA2 Olympics?
Yes please... Ill send my bot to you ASAP.
-
Wait till the sign ups are posted. You got some time.
-
LW VS bot.
Possible entry for MassimoV's RA2 Olympics.
-
Is it stable enough?
-
Is it stable enough?
Yeah it is stable but if you drive it forward it would go forward-left.
-
Perhaps remove the wheels and reattach them. That sometimes helps. I'd be slightly worried about the TWM3R being hit, and the reach of the weapon. Maybe you could mount the motor with the end AP, and that'll allow you to attach the hammers with the end AP as well, which will give you some extra reach, and probably help with self-righting.
-

errrrr..
what is AP? sorry bout that.
-
attachment point
also the drum or the motor might come off before the hammers do
-
Use a metal hinge for the wedge.
-
Looks pretty bad compared to your previous bots to be honest. VS with wedges like that generally suck, also it looks very fragile.
-
yeah it looks bad but its combat tested..
I know less in making lightweights though
-
I realized I was making lots of MW flippers.
4 battlepacks 2npc's BSG powered flipper. 360.4 KG
-
More armor, otherwise I LOVE IT. :gawe:
-
Oh, now that looks downright gorgeous. If this is intended to be IRL though, ditch the metal hinge for a skirt hinge (or reshape the chassis so the flippers are exactly on top of the chassis slope).
-
Im really bored when the news says about the Scarborough Shoal and blah blah blah...
my previous IRL bot works good as an AI and can get under this new one. And yea h I intended to keep the alu skirt from the chassis to add protection to the front.
-
it looks nice, really simple too
-
Nice bot, but it looks more substandard DSL than IRL.
-
Nice bot, but it looks more substandard DSL than IRL.
I disagree, more like DSL built for the rule of cool.
-
SHW that ended Grog's reign :p
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/LookatmyHammer.png)
5 ants normal npc drive and duo perm
-
SHW that ended Grog's reign :p
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/LookatmyHammer.png)
5 ants normal npc drive and duo perm
overweight, fight dsl version of raptor with it.
Did you fight "King Grog" ?
-
I dont have the NAR AI
its just that grog punishes my shell spinners..
-
Looks totally overkill.
But yeah it's a SHW. Build another (roughly) 1200 kg and fight it against this one, don't fight SHW's against HW's unless you are trying to prove how awesum your HW is.
And raptor may be a SHW, it's more like a HW with an added mess of components that makes it a SHW. Fight raptor with heavyweights.
-
I wonder where you got this idea ;).
-
I attempted to build an HS with sum DSL hammers. The idea came from other showcases and mixed 'em up.
-
Back to building...
TriBar HS w/ 60kg hammers. VERY Destructive weaponry and hey, weapons don't come off easily.
10 ants and Dual perm for weapons and 4wd TWM3R powered drivetrain.
-
you really need npc's atleast for this
-
TWM3Rs for now and I'm planning for drive ehancement.
I will rebuild it if I had to. needs some chassis widening
-
tribars fail pretty hard
just go hexplate -> dsl bar -> hammer
-
10 ants!? You only need 3. ._.
-
actually he needs atleast 5 because it's 4wd
-
I feel like building some IRL HS.
5 ants Perm 132 S normal npc drive
-
are you sure that doesnt cut though the motor ?
-
Yeah I am sure wanna see the insides?
-
sure
-
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/IRLMWHSinsides.png)
a few micrometer away from the perm :idea2:
and the weapon tooth doesn't touch the perm belt.
-
More like 300 micrometers.
-
Nicely built. This design's been done a few times, but it's nice to see you know how to get IRL building right. =)
-
actually he needs atleast 5 because it's 4wd
Oh now I see. I only saw 2 wheels at first. My mistake.
the IRL bot looks cool.
-
Nicely built. This design's been done a few times, but it's nice to see you know how to get IRL building right. =)
It's just like the multitude of regular HS in real life!
-
OK I'm back from a 2-day youth summit. Back to building...
are Snowplows IRL?
SHW for War of the Giants.
-
Weapon is not supported by anything rigid => not IRL.
-
Just attemped to build this bot.
anyways,
-
2nd bot of the day.
I don't know where I got the name but it was running to my mind while im building it. :claping
-
underweight and fail motor (use 132 by making some space)
-
I tried to use 132 but it limits the beater bars I can attach. so I came up to an 80 choice.
It is still effective though.
-
Forgot to mention that this bot has a Great Wedge. Much better than my first bot GUT RIPPER. ::2mad
-
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/screenshot_17.jpg)
Extenders are for self-righting. not much to discuss.
-
Why'd you put the angled part on an axle. That makes it hard to self right.
-
whoooow didn't notice that.
Ill try to change
-
With that VS, you could probably lower the chassis a good deal, and that should give you the weight you need to get 132's on there.
SS looks alright, but yeah, axle will make it impossible to self-right. I'd have gone for an angled skirt rather than that heavy yet vulnerable extender assembly.
-
I would make the Srimech extender static.
-
For the VS, use NPC Fasts since you have weight.
-
On the VS, I'd downgrade the extender that is holding the motor armour to polycarb.
-
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/Ringsoffire.png)
weapons drive inward, which makes it a grabber. wedges are good and, SHELL SPINNERS are my worst enemies.
Alu 3 398.7 KGS.
-
Please don't tell me this is for RIP3.
-
Please don't tell me this is for RIP3.
possibly... but RIP3 requires clusterbots and IRL type ones.
BTW: its my first juggler type bot.
-
remove the center beater bars, and then change the wedge to small wedges.
-
rotate the plow 180 degrees so it can trap better and it will be pretty awesome
you might want to make the front part less steep, the piglets should still attach if part of them are outside the chassis
-
Pretty good. Pretty much what ty said. And don't worry, pretty much every juggler has a hard time with Sheck Spinners cause they tend to move off the weapons.
-
remove the center beater bars, and then change the wedge to small wedges.
If the wedges are fine, leave them as it is. Being less steep is more of an issue.
-
And after that, change the plow to a PA Skirt, and then change the drive to fasts and change the armor to plastic 5.
-
All you need for RIP3 is a LW and a MW of 2 different types, with flail weapons and pop-ups banned. You're halfway there. :P
-
And after that, change the plow to a PA Skirt, and then change the drive to fasts and change the armor to plastic 5.
Ehhh, why the PA skirt? Plows are decent and very difficult to break due to the shape of their mesh.
The rest of your advice is fine but he probably won't have enough weight to get the plastic 5 either way.
-

umm..... cause PA skirts have the best shape for holding the opponent while the opponent is being killed? if PA skirts is too fragile, you can stick a 40 cm Ti skirt on a skirt hinge and angle about 30 degrees so that it can trap opponents better.
-
plows are better
-
enough argument guys.
for me I prefer using plows because I tested its effectiveness. The bot just drives the opponent to the wall then kill it.
-
You might also want to try it with 3 long baseplate mounted multiextenders instead of a plow.
-
I'm going back to school tomorrow and probably take a break on building bots for some time.
Ill try to make some if I have a spare time. :rage
-
change the plow to a PA Skirt
no.
-
Finally I've got some spare time to build a bot. But definitely I have no time to make splashes.
5 ants Perm 132. I used the large beater bar to add another disc. 4 small beater bars & 4 light ds tooth.
-
Not half bad- but you can shrink the chassis and use NPCs instead of mags.
-
You could swap the Beater Bar for a Flipper Segment. That would allow you to upgrade the TWM's for NPC's, which offer better speed, and 12,000HP. =)
-

I'm pretty sure its 8000 :L
You false information spreader you

You're thinking of Piglets and Perms, I believe. =P NPC Normals (ONLY NPC Normals, not Rights, Lefts or Fasts, they all have 400) have 12,000 HP, I'm fairly sure.
-
yeah piglets have 8K. NPC normals have 11000 or 12000.
-
My life is a lie!
-
Hello there! It has been two years since I have been active. I built a bot for my return *bwahahahahah*. Anyways, tell me what you guys think!
Shells OFF! 773.2 KG 4 batt packs and NPC fasts.
It really does its job. Get rid of shell spinners.
-
Pretty good.
also hybrids dgsfdgsfds
-
Sure looks nice.
-
It's been years since I last played RA2. My first attempt on DSL 2.2 IRL flipper. I tried to make it as realistic as possible. The pinion gear was originally facing forward and technically unrealistic because the rack pushes upward and the pinion moves downward so I reverse mounted it. Kinda underweight though
(http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y430/bugziy/still_unnamed_irl_flipper_zps4dlvb1qh.png)
-
Lol both of us started after some time of not playing and both make an irl flipper. Does look pretty sweet though.
-
Looks pretty cool fam
-
Not bad. A bit bland, but not bad.
-
Ah my Firripino friend. Looks pretty nice.
-
Reminds me of Chaos from Series 2. I think as builders slowly get to grips with DSL2.2, we'll see the building styles progress through the different series of Robot Wars very quickly, until we reach present day.
-
thx guys. I'll definitely build more with the latest version of DSL
-
Just another IRL-ish horizontal spinner. I wanted to add weapons to that bar but the weight is on its limit for a MW. Some negative name and poor editing, here's the result :laughing
(http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o491/jerichoHookaH/false_promise_splash_zpsvsngwvyv.png)
Weight says: 398.3 kgs
-
The axle is ever so slightly floating. Perhaps a bar between the parallel lines of the cage over the axle may help this?
-
it would be entertaining to see that fight my own IRL middleweight spinner. its very nice.
-
Yeah it'd be pretty swell if you can get that axle properly supported.
-
What others said. Otherwise, it's neat.
-
Did some work on False Promise. Fixed the floating Perm belt and added some aesthetics hence, it has moved up to HW.
got a disc with smal typhoon teeth but the bot is still underweight for a HW. Any suggestions for weapon config?
-
You could stack two discs and double the weapons. That belt protection looks sweet.
-
Frame work looks great.
-
Digging the triangles.
-
Neat. I would feel that you need some white drawings on that skin to go with the extender work.
You can try making something with a single disc, beaters and another weapon on it...
