I propose we take this to its logical conclusion, and have 800 seperate weight classes, one for each kg of your bot.

But not really. 7 weight classes is probably enough for most people's building needs. If you have trouble building to the weight limit, just add more stuff. Or lurk.

Am i the only one here who doesn't know how to make a DSL bot that's over 800 KG in weight? i find that really frustrating :realmad(, just when my imagination gets going, it's brought to an abrubt hault by the 'over 800' error message, is there any way around it?

Fleaweight has been mentioned many times before, and it's a stupid idea.
Featherweight seems like too much division to me.

What about cruiserweight though, is that seen as "official" now?

600kg (I thought we settled on Sparkeyweight, Joe) it is the "official"weightclass used for CCV

Yo dudes,
Occam's razor: simpler is better
settle for 5-6 weight classes that fit really well with what you can do with a bot and leave it at that.

Welcome to the boards. =) Hopefully you'll stick around, build a few things, and enjoy your time here.

We've got seven official weight classes at the moment:

The three you get in the game, Lightweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight.
Two sub-Lightweight classes, Antweight (0-125kg), and Beetleweight (125-175kg)
Superheavyweight (800.1-1200kg) and Ultraheavyweight (1200.1-5000kg)

Recently, Enigma submitted a bot into Nar AI that has been classed as a "Gigaheavyweight", which I think is 5000.1-10000kg, but that's a bit too much for anyone's standards. And it will probably take four weeks to finish a three minute match. Personally, I think what we've got is enough for anyone.

"Gigaheavyweight" was simply to clarify the confusion between "superheavyweight".

Back then SHW used to mean "over the official weight limit", see the Starcore SHW's. Now we have SHW (800.1-1200), UHW(1200.1-5000).

The problem is that I have seen that some people have been using SHW as the old meaning of SHW.

Now we have : antweight (0-125.0), beetleweight(125.1-175.0), lightweight(175.1-249.0), middleweight(249.1-399.0), heavyweight (400.1-800.0), SHW (800.1-1200.0), UHW(1200.1-5000.0).

Gigaheavyweight is everything above, but 10 tons is more than enough for building a heavy bot, so I'll suppose we don't need more. (heck it's already difficult to fill all the weight of an UHW). So I call GHW (5000.1-10000.0)

Fleaweight and featherweight and cruiserweight are nonsense. As the sagacious newbie posted before, simpler is better. 7-8 weightclasses are more than enough.

lol@ misspelled thread title

I propose that any weight class that there hasn't been a tournament for just be deemed unofficial.

If someone wants to make a tournament for an unofficial weightclass, they can. These tournaments could just be called "customweight tournaments" or something similar and would need to have limits specified for the individual tournament.

I think that it would do away with the fleaweight, featherweight, cruiserweight, uberheavyweight and gigaheavyweight debates, but still leave flexibility in the weightclasses.

Does this seem like a decent idea, or would it overcomplicate things even worse?

It should just stay as AW, BW, LW, MW, HW, SHW, UHW. no GW.
