Spin robots Out of the Arena?
« on: September 06, 2009, 06:45:58 PM »
I remember seeing a tournament fight where one robot had such a powerful spinning disc that it flung its opponent over the wall.  I want to make a robot like that, how do I go about making a VS that can fling opponents all around the arena?

You can try copying some of these bots:

The important thing is having a wedge, so all the force of the weapon is directed into flinging the other bot upward, instead of pushing forward.

Really long weapons like bars (Mako) help... Far Cry, my disc VS has a hard time hitting bots very far.

For once the mods did something right

For me, it takes chained E-teks to get the job done.

What if I were to take a weapon, like say the Minion disc, and adjust the values it in the txt file?  Could I get more air by altering the Piercing, Fracture, or Concussion?

No, damage actually doesn't have that much to do with how high you knock someone away.  There are really only 2 things that determines how high things goes, the speed of impact, and the angle of impact.  A Cleprechaun Tail that deals 50 damage a hit can still knock people flying just as much as a sledge hammer dealing 2000 damage.  If you are hacking the txt files you are much better off hacking the motor.

And the weapon's torque as well.

Can you be more specific?  Which values in the txt file should I be hacking?

You don't need to hack anything... just a rather large weapon (bar spinners are better) and a powerful motor

As Naryar said, you really don't need to hack to get what you want, but if you must hack, the value you want to edit is "power".  As to how much you need I can't tell you, since I think a non hacked dual perm is enough.  Here are some of the values you can compare to.

Piglet
power = 116 10

Perm 132
power = 200 27

Dual Perm
power = 200 68

First value is for max speed, second is for acceleration.

EDIT:  BTW, how legit is stacking motors anyway?  I always consider that unrealistic.

if you plan on modding a motor past the speed and torque or a duel perm the axle is almost guaranteed to parkways with the motor.

if you feel like playing around with incredibly fast motors I suggest servos as they tend to not separate the axles so much

Servo glitches, while fun to use, are unrealistic in DSL and should not be allowed in tournaments.

Chained motors COULD be done and work (although not easily) in real life.
