has anyone on gtm had a thought of making robot arena 3 with new robot parts arenas ai ui new music but its ra2 but had a mega face lift?
-
You've just described DSL. Backlash will fufill a similar role.
-
oh lol but with out all the stock arenas
-
then it would be a less fun DSL, or RA 1/2
-
gk hows the arena compilment?
-
DSL3 = Robot Arena 3
-
ah ok
-
The arena compilation will be out when I'm not busy and Badnik's around.
-
I can't wait for DSL to develop

same here
-
oh lol but with out all the stock arenas
so you would rather less arena's ? :P

exactly right, though Backlash will be more of a spin off game (no pun intended) since it doesnt follow the original aims.
DSL 3 will be pretty much Robot Arena 3, (or really 4 since DSL 2 really jumped ahead)
-
5 beacuse of DSL 1
-
I haven't played a complete version of DSL 1 but my understanding was it was pretty much a mod not a standalone conversion like DSL 2
-
There was also something like this being kicked around on the old forums way back when. It was actually going to be a RA3, with a new physics engine, new game mechanics, etc. I don't know how far it got, but my impression was it never really got off the ground. If I recall correctly, the "game development" subforum under offtopic was supposed to house the project here at GTM's, but the conversion from the Atari forums completely killed the project in its infancy.
-
nahhh DSL 2.1 is like RA2.7
DSL 3 will be a completed version of DSL, making it like RA2.99
-
Serge was playing around with a new engine
but really DSL 3 + Segre's exe hax and we pretty much have our new game there
I know there is still havoks, etc but its massive work what us the fan base have done compared to the original project
-
DSL needs a website, and it's own forum. THAT will help.
It's help if other people make they're own forums, too. I thought about "the fire forums" but then thout "meh"
-
umm Sparkey THIS IS the official DSL TC forums
it became home to RA2 in general after Atari gave our community the metaphorical middle finger
-
I would'nt call it a middle finger, they stopped producing the game and forums cost money.
I just meant a non stock forum JUST for DSL. I want to make my own forum though........
-
What makes you think that DSL needs the things you described?
-
I want to make my own forum though........

Separating the community between multiple forums reduces its overall strength. We have had something like that in the past but all it did was form feuds that were allowed to fester between the forums. At one point, we even tried having a forum for the advanced users (to get away from the n00bs) but that lasted for an even shorter amount of time...
-
this brings forth a small side project I was tinkering with...
http://Backlash.robotarena.info (http://Backlash.robotarena.info)
but for the reason Trov just mentioned

I chose not to use it (but had some fun building the theme from scratch) Backlash is and will be much stronger within GTM, it can be seen on other users forums on this website, Gazea's forum is one (no offense) but you can see how little the community moves over so pulling it apart would really reduce the size big time (plus I wuv GTM :gawe: )

eFFe and I were working on it. Gave up once our framework (Ogre + Ageia) was too limited. Then we were supposed to get started again, but eFFe didn't have much time to work on the project. I am still doing some OpenGL game engine programming in my free time.

I said it wasnt to be used, why would you want to join if there is no topics on it
@Serge: Ogre wouldn't have been bad.. thats what Rigs of Rods was made with
-
Except the fact you can't play it JoeBlo
*Laughs again*
-
I can, was playing it the other day.. just the Mod I want doesnt work with my graphics card aparently
-
Oh, Oh ok. I though you were talking about the whole game not working :/
-
WERE CNA I GET RIGS OF RODS?
-
From the website.
It is free :P
-
I though you were talking about the whole game not working :/
the mod was the only reason I wanted to play the game.. so if it doesnt work, the game doesnt work >:P
-

We used Ogre. It sucked, since without modifications to the engine (thus requiring me to understand the internal working of this monster)
- you had to use their file format for 3d files (which wouldn't let you add any physics-based preferences, unless you shipped it with a separate text file
- it was all too high-level for a game that requires direct access to vertex lists and face indices
- it was all too complicated and had features we'd ever use
- the Ageia binding were absolute sh**
-
Also, I was hoping to do some 3D development on my netbook, but it looks like my graphics card doesn't support OpenGL 2.0 (using which I already started developing my engine on my dev box). Oh well, I'll have to wait a month to get back to Warsaw.

I'd like to suggest a single piece dog-leg shaped extender with varying lengths of both segments. Also choice of angle. Could use the alloys available and their hit points.
It'd be useful in making grippy arms and cool looking scorpion tail type weapons.
