Questions About RA2 Building
« on: June 29, 2013, 11:25:37 AM »
I have some questions that I want to ask people:

1. What's the average time it takes you to build a robot?

2. Which robot that you made did you find to be the most difficult to build?

3. Out of all the robots that you have made, which one is your favorite?

Here's my answers:
1. In between 45 mins and 1.5 hours in stock, and in between 30 mins and 50 mins in DSL.

2. Terramax 1 would be the bot I found the most difficult to make in stock due to everything except the wedges being setup on one snapper. took three tries to get everything right. Nothing comes to mind in DSL.

3. VictimiZer would be my favorite overall. My most favorite bot in DSL would probably be Capital Punishment.

  • 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on complexity & depending on the skin.
  • Occupational Hazard (Panther King III) - This went through about seven renditions since the original lightweight. Will be included as part of Paranoia AI.
  • Though it was hardest to build in my opinion, Occupational Hazard is probably my best bot in stock.  I have none in DSL simply because I haven't touched it in years.

1. What's the average time it takes you to build a robot?
Anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour.

2. Which robot that you made did you find to be the most difficult to build?
I would say Wreathy the Christmas Wreath. Huge amounts of placing stuff, then bfe. Then reskinning. Not fun.

3. Out of all the robots that you have made, which one is your favorite?
I'd have to say Miss America.

1. That depends on all the variables, I'm mainly a slow builder. The chassis takes me about 5 minutes to perfect, then it takes me about 15 minutes to get everything inside the chassis placed, another 15-20 minutes spent on external components, 5 minutes setting up the controls and testing, and up to an hour making the skin. In total, around 1 hour 15 minutes for each robot.

2. The new version of Articulator which will compete at BB7.

3. I'd have to say Super Diced, which will also compete at BB7. No images yet, as that would give people time to counter it but here is a spy-shot with some parts of the robot disguised:

1. Planning for me takes about 1-2 weeks (I only plan out my bot if I*m entering it in a tournament) and about 10-20 minutes to do the actual building.
2. I don*t really find any bots difficult to make.
3. Definitely RTL2. It*s probably my only good bot.
EDIT:
4. BuffalOWNED
5. My tournement :D

1) Depends. Most IRL bots take me about 15-20 mins, a good stock HW can take up to an hour

2) I'd have to say Overloaded Orbinaut 2, mostly because I didn't know how to eFFe

2) My favorite is definitely the Zantetsuken line which includes Final Z, but Mr. Brownstone, the Flaze line and Astraphobia are all close. As are Punterator and Ratbane/Heart of the Tempest.

1) In terms of building the bot, probably anywhere between one and two hours. Depending on things like complexity, weightclass and so forth. Around 5 to 10 minutes tends to be how long I take getting the chassis right. Probably another 10 to 30 minutes for the skin on top of that.

2) I think the trickiest one to build for me was HaleStorm 8. Mostly due to all the glitching required, the AGOD that I encountered, and finding exactly the right extender setup for it all to fit together properly. Being a Heavyweight probably made things trickier, working out how to use all the weight in the most effective manner. But I definitely think it's all worked out in the end, it's great to see how far it's progressed from starting out as a Rebel 2 clone.

3) My favourite Stock bot of mine is probably HaleStorm 8 or Schizophrenia 3. It had a great run in Awesumsauce's tournament, luck went against it in the final, but it still managed to be pretty innovative for a bot type that perhaps normally hadn't.

In terms of DSL, I'd say my favourite would be either Taur 2, Puncture III or Ion. I still think Taur 2 is the best IRL bot I've ever made, Puncture III was, I thought, quite a clever and well-rounded BW, and Ion winning both a BotM and Tournament is a pretty good achievement to me. =)

1. What's the average time it takes you to build a robot?
I can make (without the testing) any type stock HW bot faster, than I can skin it or showcase it. And I'm fast with PhotoShop. The huge resolution and a certain PC hardware, is what will make your game a way more easy to stack.
2. Which robot that you made did you find to be the most difficult to build?
Difficult - no one, the most time needed - when you try to build something like "The Infinite" in stock, you will know the answer/my pain.
3. Out of all the robots that you have made, which one is your favorite?
Considering I showcase only my average stuff, then of course it's from the secret bots of me. But it's still hard to choose only one.
4. What's your favorite any DSL bot?
I'll say "King SnS", I just love any ridiculous stuff.
5. What's your favorite DSL tournament?
"Clash of the titans" of course. Did anyone want to -rep me, cos my favorite DSL tournament is not a IRL one?
So, it's clear, that I like the heaviest weight classes in both stock and DSL.

1.
stock = 15 min - 1 1/2 hr
dsl = 10 min - 30 min

2.
bloody murder forever was an all day affair.

3.
probably dolsa 3.
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

1.
Days, probably weeks. I never really finish with a bot; I'll keep going back in and changing something and thinking it's fine, then coming back the next day and thinking it looks horrible and change something again.

2.
Jester took me weeks of frustration and annoyance and I still never got it right. It seems the chassis I used for it is cursed; Using it for the original Falmer I ended up with the same problem.

3.
Laying Siege. I'll never fight it, but I love it regardless.

4.
Dom's crocodile bot.

5.
I have a lust for superheavies and heavier when in combat, so Clash of the Titans is up there.

1.  Depends on the amount of time, ideas, and motivation I have. Also depends on the interruptions while building.

2.  Jiffy Pop for MNGM. Getting everything just right, abiding by the rules, and making it work well was a pain in the ass.

3.  I don't really have a favorite, but I like Arena Robot just for the fact that it was a controversial entry before the tournament failed.

1. About 50 minutes or more in DSL, don't build in stock anymore
2. Faithless from Box Of Nightmares. I don't often go for particularly complex builds so it's probably comparatively easy next to most of the bots people have made.
3. Future Breed Machine. I dunno, it was versatile and effective, regardless of its defeat in the finals of RIW3.

1. About half an hour.

2. Erm, dunno. Cataclysm was a b**** to try and keep under the weight limit.

3. Dusk. I just think it would fit into an actual Battlebots tournament. A joy to drive as well, 4 NPC Fasts and two Judge Burst flippers are a lot of fun.
