Probably an idea that cant be done but...
« on: May 15, 2010, 04:16:53 PM »
Hey All
I was thinking about Axle bots, and how to effectively make one in RA2 (or DSL at least)
Of course, it seems that the only and best way to make one is 2 shell on some NPC's with a big stick at the end.
But, when you look at a real life axle bot, theres 2 very important things that make it swing over:
1. Heavy (sometimes) wheels, that anchor down when the robot flings over.
2. The motors have a high braking ability.
So, apart from the heavy wheels (Which i have tried but failed =_=) it might be an idea to add some kind of 'brake = ?' setting to a motors .txt file.
I have tried an axle bot using 2 servos, and of course it works, but does do that weird hurricane-havok-spin thingy, but its because a servo brakes that causes that flinging over.
So, this probably couldnt be done easily, but would there be any chance to add some sort of brake to a motor, and edit how powerfull the braking strengh is through a setting in the .txt file.
Of course it could be balanced easily, usually, the faster the motor is, the less braking strengh it has, but the more controlled the motor, the better the brake.
Probably another idea that will soon be forgoten, but its an idea none the least ^^

Damn I should probably put something fancy in this bit huh?

This can be done with servos and grippy wheels.

As I understood, I think its to build bots like Overkill...
They just break & The weapon swings forward

Yes, i was talking about a tourque reaction hammer.
And no, i cant be done with Servos and grippy wheels, because the servos keep on havoking when turning, plus servos are meant to be slow, so that doesnt help.
Stinger works on two principles:
1: The wheels are the heaviest part(s) of the robot, holding the batterys, motors ect.
2: The axe is light weight
So, the wheels reply on the axe to hit the floor in order to move, sort of like a lever to push it forward.
Plus, because the wheels are heavy, and the motors brake easily, the wheel anchor the body down and the braking motion flings it over.
Damn I should probably put something fancy in this bit huh?
