I've been thinking. Since race is possible, a obstacle race would be possible too. Unless normal races, obstacle races should have only one checkpoint. The first one who reaches the checkpoint should be declared winner.
Possible arenas:
Ol' Classic
A classic obstacle race. Players should be separated by walls. On the way the players should have to pass more rounds. Round one, the wall, where players should have to destroy a brick wall. Next the player should push the barrels on sides. At the end the player should push a huge block blocking the exit. He should reach a room with the checkpoint.
Tornado
This arena should be like a cylinder with the top circle smaller then the bottom one, should look like a headless spike. The road should be spiral, surrounding the spike. Players should have to climb the spiral road to the top of the cylinder where the checkpoint should be.
The Warrior's Endurance
Players should start on the same line. This arena should be long and should contain a enormous amount of traps, testing the robot's endurance more then its speed. Some robots should reach the finish line with only two wheels.
The traps should include axes swinging from the ceiling (at slow speed and between them there should be enough distance for a bot to hide), Flamethrowers on the walls which should activate by crossing certain switches (the switches should be hidden) hidden holes on the floor, bricks falling from the ceiling, Logs rolling from the walls over the bots who uncarefully activate switches, even spinning wheels. Only the most powerful robots should go past the checkpoint.
Maze
A classic maze. Robots should have to find their way through the countless corridors, dangerous traps and fight their way through the opponents they meet.

I can tell you right now that the AI won't be able to do any of that. Could be interesting for a single player type mode.

maybe an internet tourney would be good for it.

This = Epic lag fest due to the overly complex arena.
-
ok maybe a local network tourny then. or have competitors take a vid of their bot doing the course.
-
Would the straight one be possible if two 'bots' (well, boxes basically) were placed at the end?
Wouldn't the AI head for the 'bot'?
-
Sounds alot like Robotica...

You know this would work on time...
-
Actually, I think it is possible to make the AI ignore opponents but some of those arenas would still be laggy.
-
You can make the AI ignore the opponent, NP.
But some obstacles would be tough for the AI to navigate.
AI in a 'drag race arena' is very do-able.
To lower risk of lag, you should be careful of and minimize
...-GMF vertices, and
...-Python commands.

King of the Hill is an example of the opponents ignoring other bots, unless your at a certain spot (in front of them or on top of the "hill")
-
All races should have obstacles...
I make a 4 wheeled bot with 4 Dual Perms, Ill own all the Drag races ;D
-
ACAMS has some really nice Drag Racing components he made too. Don't know if they're officially out yet???

Not if somebody makes a 6 wheeled bot with 6 Dual Perms!

OK, I am a sorry, lazy, no good bastard.....BUT, I bet I release my pack before goose finishes the bot exchange!
-
I smell a contest.
-
I smell goose losing. The new bot exchange is probably vapourware :P
-
Goose told me before April Fools day that he was going to release the bot exchange for real on April 3, after he did his joke. So I would think it's at least started.
Also the obstacle race is a good idea and probably doable. Makes me want to hurry up and finish BBEANS so I can get back to DSL...
