RA2 is crumbling...
-
i was just about to say that :o
it's funny because it's all happening in 2012
-
What's even more funny is that with all these Robot combat sites going down the Advanced robot Combat site is back up
http://advancedrobotcombat.com/ (http://advancedrobotcombat.com/)
-
That makes 3 Ra2 sites down within these 2 months
The Atari Bot Exchange....
RFSHQ....
and now Joeblo's site....
-
inb4 www.robotarena.com (http://www.robotarena.com) is down

RA2 is crumbling...
Oh, I will have none of that nonsense. You're not sparkey, ain't ya ?
RA2 isn't crumbling. 99,9% of all RA2 activity on the internet happens HERE, ON THIS FORUM. Is it dead ? Nope. Is it dying ? No good argument for that.
We're still having tournaments. We're still building robots, we're still discussing RA2, we're still having new and interested newbies. RA2 might be an old game and have a tiny fanbase compared to other games, it's NOT dying.
What is on the receiving end of my UNDILUTED, WHITE-HOT, AND ENTIRELY JUSTIFIED SPITE is actually people that whine and complain about RA2 dying. Not only it's entirely false, but you doomsayers setting up pessimism for the future, which is not a good thing for this forum's continued existence.
Seems like you guys actually want this community to end, or something similar, by saying that it is crumbling.
-
WE STILL HAVE N00B WAAAAARZ
-
yes but everything besides this site is gone.
-
Clcikbeetle's, Starcore's, and even Darkrat's sites are all up.
-
yes but they are all part of GTM
-
Joe's was too.
-
It wasn't
-
Like it has gametechmods in the URL. I thought you just meant they were setup while gtm was the only site around.
-
I totally saw this coming - after Joeblo left GTM, there wasn't much point of keeping .info website open.
Plus, I didn't really like Joe's site. The latest edition of backlash constantly crashed, so I gave up and remy back to BF2 :P

QFT. I remember back in 2006 when people said RA2 was dying. The fact is that there is still a strong interest in robot combat and there are not many alternatives.

As much as Nary gripes about the IRL fad in DSL, you have to admit it's been good for the community (at least the DSL community, stock not so much). Almost every time I get on the forums there's a full page of unread topics in the DSL showcase.
-
Its because the game is nearly a decade old and I'm guessing that within another year this could very well be the only RA2 site left. Its kind of sad really.
-
it's lack of interest and ideas when building really. Old members leave and plenty new ones join.
-
This site will go down soon.
-
This site will go down soon.
it will never go down if acams pays the monthly bill and keeps it maintained

and here we see TX going backwards, back to n00bland.

No this game isn't DYING. Outside sites die because they get about 2 views a day and simply not worth maintaining, but this happens with everything on the internet. Population gets concentrated to 1 forum, 1 wiki, 1 fansite, and the rest dies even for games with enormous fan base.

This. I dread to say even the fanbase for Doom will die out one day.
Oh, and CoD fans can go stuff themselves =P
-
most of the good people have stopped building and people are pretty much running out of ideas. but that doesn't mean it's dying.
-
Well, you guys pissed him off. Good job.
-

In case you haven't noticed, GTM's isn't technically the "official" RA2 forum. Why? Because those forums went down too. A long time ago. The last I checked, the community is still alive long after the plug was pulled on us. We're not going to just die.
That being said, what we really need is a RA3, commercially developed from scratch and mass released to generate more interest and inject some new blood in here. I think that we're getting "stale" more than we're dying. Come here and it's the same people with the same opinions saying the same things building the same bots, for the most part at least. RA2 won't simply "die" because, as Click said, there is no substitute for it. But a substitute would do the community a world of good.
-
Go on 9gag and go back like 3 pages and there was a picture of two bots fighting. No only were there hundreds of favorites, there were humdreds of comments. If someone wants to go recruit for this "dieing" community, there's a start.

I was kidding, chill out :P
