Title: Edit for Razer
Post by: inplabth on February 04, 2007, 06:51:18 AM
Razer was a crusher, the claw, beak thing moved slow, because it was NOT powered with a snapper motor, it was powered with hydrolics, or is the game's case, a servo. Please edit this, as Razer was my favorite bot of all time.(well, Tornado was, too)

Really what the DSL Razer needs is a new claw that looks more real and a SLOW BURST MOTOR Would fix it

I think the bot looks great. The collission on the wedge needs to be fixed. Slow down the bursts on the claw and wings.

Am I the only one who is confused about that alien sounding noise.

The team tried making the claw uber and the burst motor slow, but Razer then ended up imbalanced. I suggest making the body of the claw and the tip of it (uber'd) seperate part then put both pieces on a slow burst motor.

Due to limitations in the game, no claws, crushers, or other slow and powerful weapons work; they act like a very, very weak and slow burst motor, which is what the game thinks it is. Speed is intimately tied to power in the havok engine, which is why spinners are so much more powerful than a hammer-bot, for example.
As for the noise, you are free to replace it with one you like better, just find the name of the noise in the razer motor .txt and change it to something you like more.

[Stupid comment]I didn't know noise could fuse corn... ALTERNATE ENERGY: FUSION FOR THE MASSES![/Stuprid comment]

Darkrat tried. Simply, RA2 cannot have effective crushers. If someone can make a crusher and share how they did it we will be more then happy to fix razor. He is my fav robot wars bot too.

If you did that, it wouldn't be RA2, now would it? It would require a different engine, making it more like RA3, though I'm sure no one would mind the difference much.

issue 1: servos are not strong enough to "grab". The opponent can easily slide right out.  but I guess they can the way razer is now .

issue 2: AI's tend to be stupid when it comes to servos.

Point taken. Maybe crushers will be supported in Robot Arena 3.

P.S. when is it supposed to come out? :?

When Duke Nukem Forever comes out...

When one of us "coerces" the source out of infogrames and, uh, goes crazy on it.

Perry did tell me that it was on the to-do list. But that was before he quit. So I dont know anymore.

IF more people actually BOUGHT the game we would probally have a RA3 by now.  but no one did so they don't see a point in making another game that wont make money.

maybe ill make a RA3 type game when I retire(in like 40 years) or if I become rich.

I agree with editing Razer... it's on the to-do list for 2.1; I just have to decide how it will be different.  It will either be a Peer Pressure-style crusher where the crusher flips up then down, or a That Darn Dustpan style "crusher" powered by an arc-limited servo and a frequency weapon.

This may be a little late for 2.1 but I came up with a little idea when I read this. What if at the very end of the Razer weapon there are very tiny "invisible" pins that do the attacking? I'll go into a little more detail:
The whole system would be attached to a servo (which is what we want) and make it available that you can activate this weapon (apart from the servo) with the click of a button. Preferably it'd be the same button used as making the servo bring the arm down. When the end if the weapon comes in contact with the opponent/object, these "pins" perform a rapid punch-like motion, which can't be seen. So it'd be like you were crushing the opponent, the longer you hold down the button the more you "crush." The only problem(s) with this is a) Could this be done? and b) Developing a servo that is strong enough to hold down an opponent in the way we truly want.

And train for a while in the basic RA2  (yeah sage i DO know). when you'll be able to beat easily all basic AI, put to DSL. but i strongly advise to go DSL. it is awesome.

There is a Youtube Videos thread. Why not actually using it rather than making a 6-month bump ?
