Title: DSL Perm Drives: The Modification Idea From Me That Doesn't Suck
Post by: rnifnuf on November 23, 2013, 01:55:08 AM
I recently went back and deleted three of the four of my old modification idea threads, although I will probably delete the last remaining one.

Why did I delete these threads? Because they were made before it clicked that I was "doing it wrong."

I started to think it over and now I have a modification idea that doesn't suck: Perm-80/Perm132 drives. Kinda like E-tek drives except with perms. In other words, Perms with big rectangles on them.

Thoughts?

I like the idea. Sounds wonderful.

Not a bad idea. Seems like it'd be a pretty good motor for SHWs and UHWs, as well as the only motor that could actually move a GHW (does anyone make those anymore?) around.

Personally, i dont think we need anything bigger than an etek drive.

I disagree, perms can be useful for moving rediculously massive bots. Infact, I've had to resort to double perms to move one of my bots because it weighs so much.

If you're using Dual Perms to move your bots, you're doing it wrong. If you need more power, fit another T64 in there. I've built Ultraheavyweights with about 16 T64s double stacked and they're very fast and maneuverable.

Or use etek drives

Eteks are actually too slow for me.(for my 10k Kg bots anyways)

I dislike Etek drive motors, they only face one way for me. Unless I'm an idiot and don't know how to mirror them.

There should be an attachment point on the top you can click, no?

Huh?
what I mean is, I feel like there is no way to have a left and a right facing set of Etek drives, they are kind of like the burst snappers and other such motors, no way to reverse them for oposite direction use without making rediculously huge bots to house backwards motors.

Click the top attachment point and the motor will flip the other way.

Clicking the top attachment point does exactly what you want, just as HurricaneAndrew says. Try it out yourself.
