Title: Builder's Block
Post by: HurricaneAndrew on April 26, 2010, 01:32:54 AM
I am suffering form builder's block in both DSL and stock. I have urges to build robots, but nothing comes to mind when I think about what I should build. So, I am wondering, what helps you overcome builder's block?

I make a whole new mod for the game to suit what I want to build :P

but generally I swap between stock and DSL.... Im lost for ideas in DSL right now so I have been playing stock

then again I dont showcase at all very much anymore

I think DSL reach a point where we can't make generally "better" bots anymore, just bots that are better against one type at the expense of another.  Or at least, it's been months since I was able to improve my bots in any way.

Sheer willpower and creativity.

When i have builders block i build a replica.  Or i try to make a powerful bot using a weapon that is not commonly used by other builders.

Sheer willpower and creativity.

2 things that I lack. I know I said I would make something for Nar AI wars but I cant come up with anything and same goes for ELBITE...

Well i had builders block just 3 days ago but then i chained 3 bots in less than 90 minutes, so i feel i can start building anytime when i get a decent idea and am not lazy.

That reminds me, I am stumped for this month's BOTM.

Guess I won't acheive my goal of 12 in a row...

And I look for something waaaaaaaaaayyy in the back catalog and try to remake it but with today's principles when I have builder's block.

Inspiration from prototypes thread.

QFT

Not that I ever make anything good out of it though. And I need more DSL MW ideas for ELBITE.

I only build now when I get an idea that isn't generic.

When i absolutely can't think of what to build, I choose a theme and build a bot inspired by that.  And by theme i don't mean "a VS" or something like that i mean something like "smurfs".  There ya go.  Build a smurf bot.

The idea is to not worry about if it's combat effective or what not.  Just build and see what you can come up with.  In the process, you might accidentally discover the inspiration for your next powerhouse.
