Why would someone want to hide their advertisements?

Because he did this allready before in visible text and he was banned. Now it seems he's back with another login and with a new trick.

edit:
I just saw he did it on the showcase of Clickbeetle too. Now I think, it will not take long any more and he will be out.

Arena Ideas - Post 'Em Here!
« Reply #41 on: October 30, 2009, 06:30:15 PM »
1 YEAR BUMP! Sorry, everyone...

Anyway, here is my idea for an arena. I call it...

:gunz:  GF93's Killing Zone!  :gunz:

Anyway, those numbers on it represent the Hazards. Here's a Runthrough of each one...

1) The Pits of Despair
Do exactly what they say on the tin. They eliminate any robot unlucky enough to fall, drive, or get pushed into them. However, they remain closed at the start of the battle, covered up by flat, heavy lids, so they don't interfere with gameplay, like the closed pits in the Octagon do. The lids slide away after 1:30 has passed, and can play a key role for a Flipper or a Rammer to win against a Spinner or an Axe robot.

2) The Spikes of Agony
Another old favourite! However, the spikes here come in a set of eight, and fire upwards much more powerfully, making them more capable of causing damage to a contender's underside, and are also better at flipping some robots over.

3) Blades of Annihilation
These Razor-sharp circular saw blades pop up from below the floor. Unlike the Saw Hazards in the Combat Zone, they appear in a group of four, and are more capable of slicing up robots (Using simular blades from in the Bot Lab: Maybe Chewblades?), and/or lifting them off the ground, making them useful for lifting up Robots with a low Ground Clearance, or tearing off loose attachments. Surprise!

4) Corner Posts
"Corner Posts?!", You might be thinking. "What good could THEY possibly do in battles?"
Well, besides holding the arena together, the posts are heavy, and can do slight damage, much like the bumpers in the Antweight Arena do.

5)  Out of the Arena
This Olympic-Sized pit surrounds the arena, and instantly eliminates any robot unlucky enough to end up outside the arena boundaries, marked by thick, transparent walls. They're high enough to keep robots in, but low enough to be flipped over with a good flipper. This means that it takes more skill to win by OOTA, and thereby battles between a flipper and a robot with high ground clearance don't end immediately, due to the unlucky latter robot finding itself out. Oh, and just in case you're wondering why it's a Hexagonal shape, it's to make it harder for Flippers to OOTA from the Corners, and because I liked the shape. Surely those are good enough reasons, eh?

I also included a little picture of "Spinner from the West" to show the scale of the Arena, and also to give a basic idea of the starting areas (Each robot starts in a corner).
I didn't incorporate much detail (Such as drawing on the Arena floor), as I wanted to show my basic ideas, and if people liked it, maybe draw a plan for details.

And that's about it!

Maybe get rid of 1 or 2 hazards if possible just so there's enough room to fight too (and not too much lag).

OK, I guess I could think about that.

Admittedly though, I do really like the layout so far, but I guess I could scale some of the "Out-of-the-floor" hazards down, though. I mean, those hazard panels dwarf SFTW in that pic!

Oh, and as for a theme and paintjob, I was thinking something along the lines of a metallic and dark blue colour scheme, like in the Starcore Combat Arena- I mean, those stripes along the edges of the arena are crying out to be painted an electric blue!

interesting concept its kinda like octagon meets combat zone

it might actually be possible to do something similar with the combat zone ? dont really know for sure, openings for the pits would be the only thing I wouldn't know how to do

Cheap match outcomes.

Notably Mr Claws and a few fights in Clash Cubes 2, as well as Reier's first loss in WRL 1.

Well actually, Naryar, the pits don't open until 1:30 into the match, allowing a reasonable amount of time for a good battle, with the pits opening up as part of an exciting climax to the battle. They can also be turned off with the "Hazards off" button before you enter the match, so they're not there if you don't want them in the fight. Besides, they're mainly there because of three factors...

1) Pits are some of my favourite hazards.
2) To give Weaker Flippers, Popups and Rammers a chance against Spinners and Hammers.
3) I find they're only cheap if they're used to beat a good robot immediately, with a cheap Grabber/Pusher robot (EG. Tough As Nails, from Robot Wars)

But it's all a matter of opinion, I guess. I mean, this is only a small example of the debate over pits. Whilst I like Pits, you do not.
Either way, I want to keep them, but I'll be willing to think about other lag-reducing, fight-satisfaction-increasing ways to increase my arena ideas.

And also folks, here's Version Number Two...

:gunz: GF93'S KILLING ZONE V2.0 :gunz:

GAME DESCRIPTION
This Square Arena is GoldenFox93's home turf for Metal-Shredding Robot Smashup. It is Perfectly Engineered for maximum safety and excellent views on the outside, and pure robotic torture on the inside.
The Fighting Area itself is Littered with Dangerous Traps and Hazards such as Low Arena Walls, Pnuematic Spikes, Grinding Wheels and Deathpits. As you could expect from a location like this, the competition here is as unpredictable and exciting as they come.

SINGLE-PLAYER TOURNAMENT DESCRIPTION
GOLDENFOX93'S ROBOT RUMBLE-LIVE ON BBC2
TYPE:4-way Rumble
This Annual British tournament is very popular with both new and experienced robot builders in the UK. It is regarded as a model event there, with a loyal and dedicated fanbase, and several of the top robot teams in the world competing for supremacy in GF93's own arena. In recent years, it started airing on National Television.

WHAT I DID

OK, here's what I did. In response to the comments, IT'S BIGGER.

The hazards, as you know, dwarfed SFTW in the first picture, but now I've decreased the size of the hazards, and increased the size of the fighting area. As a result, fights are much more spaced out, allowing for the Bigger robots (EG. Wrecktangle) to grab a piece of the action.

I also added a few little cosmetic changes. I still haven't decided on a skin (And neither am I skilled enough to get off my arse and make one for that matter!), but I added Access Ramps on the outside, which also serve to cover up the Pit lids when they slide away, and also work as  part of the "OOTA" boundary. I also included doors where they are too, for a little added realism.
Hazards are still the same as ever, but have been shrunk to increase realism and fighting area. For a more detailed description of them, please look at the post detailing the previous version of the arena.

Finally, In address to complaints from people like Naryar and Pwnator about Pits, I might also increase the time the pits open from 1:30 to 2:00, therefore they cannot be used in matches under two minutes. However, Should I keep this rule, or should I not?
Ask me below.

Smaller pits - I still don't like pits, but they get a thumbs up from me since they activate only at the last 30 seconds (I hope matches don't last that long XD). :D

One problem I see is, if a bot gets punted OOTA when the match is at 2:30, and if that bot gets to the access ramps, and lands into the pit. XD
Clash Cubes 1 - Grey Matter (Runner-Up)
King of Karnage - Sideshow Freak (Runner-Up, Best Engineered)
Rust In Pieces - Paper Cut 3 (Grand Champion, Most Dangerous Bot)
Wheely Tag Tournament - Ion Thruster (Grand Champion, along with Ounces' DiSemboweLment)
UK vs USA - Dark Striker (Grand Champion)
Rust In Pieces 2 - Claymore (Runner-Up, Favourite Bot)
BBEANS 6 - Infection 4 (Runner-Up)

Replica Wars 3 - Abaddon (Runner-Up, Luckiest Bot)
BroBots - wheebot & yaybot (Runner-Up)
