Title: Any techniques for getting weapon bases in the middle of zteks?
Post by: TheBarangoat on January 20, 2020, 04:15:39 PM
Hey y'all, this question is based off stock, vanilla RA2.

As we all know, weapons without zteks are useless. Unfortunately, zteks are very thick and difficult to use in thin, low-profile, invertible bot builds.

I know with component freedom it's possible to, say, attach an extender to the bottom of the ztek, then attach a disc to the extender and have the disc sit somewhat within the ztek motor, but sometimes that isn't enough. Has anyone discovered a way to get a disc to sit, like, literally in the middle of the zteks? If so, it would help me out a lot with many different builds  :laughing

You can use Bot file editing to move the disc downwards/upwards after attaching it to the motor. Here's a link to a guide on how to do it: https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/bfe-a-beginner's-guide/

depending on what you are going for you can generally get away with zteks being as tall as they are with tribars because bots are practically never shorter than a tribar can reach. however there are still ways to get lower.

this isn't exactly what you're describing but I highly doubt any bot is gonna fit under stacked zteks like this.

you can also stack zteks in tandem with an extender and a t connector with axle loading to get some pretty crazy speed setups that sound similar to what you're looking for:

but I also disagree that only zteks are viable as weapon motors. RADs are actually really powerful but they have to be used as grinding-type weapons instead of sheer force. tribars with razors are really good at amputating extenders and stuff:

if you're wanting to build replicas or something though stock is probably not the best mod for this. DSL has much more component variety and can make more convincing replicas, and Ironforge is a finely tuned mod that lets you build destructive bots easier without having to stack stuff constantly like in stock. but feel free to build in stock if you want man, it doesn't get enough love nowadays.

I assume this is for Battlebots Reborn, if so. Then the below method should be fine

You can use Bot file editing to move the disc downwards/upwards after attaching it to the motor. Here's a link to a guide on how to do it: https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/bfe-a-beginner's-guide/

your aware he builds replicas right?

Just switch over to Robot Rumble  heck. Honestly though, RR2 has a ton more component freedom as well as better graphics and physics. There also should be an arena builder coming out some time within the next few months or so. The only real downsides to its gameplay is the AI and damaging systems for certain bot types.
This is getting pretty obnoxious ngl

you'd be right  Today I was working on Mecha Rampage, but he's not the only one that would benefit form it

Neato bfe should be fine, its what I've been using when I made Icewave. If you want any bots looked at and improved, feel free to drop a message to me on here or discord, I'll happily help you out with some

thank you! I tried repairing LockJaw yesterday and he gave me fits, Mecha Rampage has also been tough. Most everyone else should be good though. Just used BFE to make RotatoR a bit better so I'm glad I made this post.

Do you know if it's possible to adjust the bot file to make one motor act like another? If I could make an angle motor act like a ztek that would save some headaches lol

You can't do it with BFE, but it is possible. You'd need to decompile the GMF for the motor you want to edit and then adjust its stats, which IDK if you want to deal with, but it is possible

you don't need to decompile the gmf to make a rad with the same power as a ztek

either decompile the components.cfz and edit the existing txt file (not worth the effort), or just make a new
motor by making a new .txt file (guide to this here: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/modding.htm)

Thank you for this link. It looks like too much for me to tackle atm but I'll probably investigate this more for next year's Reborn Cup  ;)
