Title: "Idea" on weight classes
Post by: RedSawn on March 21, 2009, 02:17:38 PM
(Unsure if this fits under DSL General Discussion or DSL ideas - it's more of a question, but to do with the new version and all - there's no DSL 3 topics in general discussion)

With DSL 3 drawing closer (Supposedly) and the promise of classes for AWs, BWs and SHWs, will the existing classes be straightened out too?

It's frustrating when a 249kg bot isn't classed as lightweight. Stuff like that.

I think CB explained this, but if he didn't:
There are only 4 classes hard coded into the exe.  We cannot change this.
The exact weight of each weight class is also dictated by the exe,... thus no change there either. Sorry.

If I understood CB right, he changed the forth "None" class in the bot file of each of these SHW's and then tweaked the gib and pic to reflect that.
IMHO, I think this is a cool tweak...

Will we still need antiballasts to build SHWs?

Huh. Damn.

Ah well.

Don't really understand what you're saying there in that last bit.

Now, when you build a SHW, there will be an S for the weight class of SHW is what he was saying.

I don't no much about programing, so why can't you also change the EXE? Just wondering.

It'd probably be messy as heck. No idea.

Probably. If we can't move the weight limits, we can't move the upper weight limit.

Official replica SHW class will be 800-1200 kgs, so we'll probably see more SHW's.

Yep.  Like Mad said, I can't actually change the weight limits.

I might make a "stock DSL" antiballast that's -400 kgs, so using one will get you to 1200 kgs.  It will also be in a big, tall donut shape (with your bot in the middle) so that you can't attach more than one at a time.

PLEASE make that donut bigger than the max sphere!

MAKE THE MAX SPHERE BE BIGGER PLEASE!

The max cube is already big enough at this point. It's not like you can make durable HWs at that size. I also use it for SCv4 and it's still big enough for me. XD

I think there is a bigger one for download somewhere ??? the max sphere is just a GMF so im guessing if you know how to play around with the mesh vertex's you can likely make it as big as you want ?

There IS a bigger one at https://gametechmods.com/?do=Patches

And I'm now finding it useful to make overly huge SHWs. :P

I believe that the max sphere listed there is the same size as the one used in DSL because RA2 has a built-in sphere that isn't seen when you press F12 (unlike the loaded max sphere which can be seen). The loaded max sphere can be bigger than the built-in but it wouldn't matter how much bigger because the built-in max sphere would stop you before you reached the loaded max sphere.

Then again, I could be wrong... this is just being based off of the knowledge that there is an invisible wall that can't be seen by F12 that prevents you from making bigger bots in DSL while in stock there is an invisible max sphere that can be seen using F12 that prevents you from making bigger bots.

I believe the added in one replaces the standard one if I'm not mistaken.

im actually planning on making custom parts, etc for a Fleaweight Class (FlW)

based off the BW class in RA2 the equivalent would be no more then 10kg in RA2 :P

He means the wierd graphics. The three motors I mentioned are all stock parts in DSL 2.

hey, if it's to much to ask, can I see the code for the Allweight class and such?

You mean the None class I used for SHW's?  Just go to the very top of the .bot file, and where it says "Class: 1" (or 0 or 2 depending on weight class) change it to "Class: 19658784".

Then if you want to make a custom icon, just edit choosebot_cell.gib (in the UI/exhibition folder) and change the default weight icon image name (it's a small file so it's easy to see what to do).
