Title: Arcane's Showcase of Procrastination
Post by: Arcane on June 29, 2017, 11:02:59 AM
You ever build something and then instantly wonder why on earth you actually built it?

Yeah me too...

Individual pieces? Wow I couldn't even begin to guess, it's 6580.0 in-game weight which is over 3 times heavier than the second heaviest thing I've built in this game. I probably should have left the inside hollow in retrospect...

Just a small compilation of the replicas I've attempted thus far, some of the previously unseen ones are nowhere near finished and in need of major reworking but seeing as I'm nearly halfway through the reboot bots (28 Down, 33 To Go) I thought I'd leave a post in my personal showcase for a change.

Row 1 - Tombstone, Icewave, Bite Force, Nightmare, Stinger, Beta.
Row 2 - Witch Doctor, Shaman, Wrecks, Brutus, Hypershock, Cobalt, Lockjaw, Overdrive.
Row 3 - Captain Shrederator, Chomp, Disk O'Inferno, Splatter, Moebius, Ringmaster, Invader.
Row 4 - Plan X, Mega Tento, Ghost Raptor, Black Ice, Radioactive, Overhaul, Red Devil.

Thank you to everyone who has been following my work so far and leaving nice comments, it's been incredible motivation!

After all the crazy things I've saved into .bot files lately, I wanted to build a simple Drum Spinner with a wedge. Nothing crazy just pure combat focused building...

That was all fine and good and then I decorated it a little and I may have gotten a little bit carried away.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/65342Terror Form 1.png)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/62265Terror Form 4.png)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/92913Terror Form 6.png)
- Terror Form.

Each limb is attached to a burst motor because it just wouldn't be a giant spider bot if it didn't creep you out slightly with it's many many legs.

So Terror Form or 'Nightmare Fuel Mechadon' is joining the giant drill in the "why did I build this again?" showcase.

I only worry that the front fangs are blocking the drum. If that's the case you could have them risen up as starting position and ad spikes to them so they can work as hammers

Thanks for the lovely comments lads lol! It wouldn't be one of my bots if it wasn't a bit weird looking! The more I look at it the more it starts to look like a spider laying on top of a wide skateboard.

Nice dude!

Great idea Thyrus! That actually works a lot better!

And now for an image nobody thought they'd ever see;

This is a fairly old ring spinner I'd made about a year ago called Bloody Penny;

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/63249Old Bloody Penny.png)
- Bloody Penny (Before)

As you can see it was essentially just a circular chassis with a nightmare disc stuck through the middle and a couple of hammers for teeth...

I decided to revamp this old bot and give it the coloured extender bot treatment and thought I'd showcase it before I ended up doing something crazy like sticking a giant bug on the top of it... so here's the rebuilt version currently without a ridiculous gimmick lol.

Calm down, hes good but not THAT good.

Can confirm, most of the stuff I build weighs around 2500.0kg/3000.0kg, if you asked me to build a competitive/tournament bot or really anything under 800.0kg I'd struggle to make anything half decent.

Oh of course, he's super super good for a newb. Looking forward to seeing more bots from you, Arcane! Don't worry about tournaments if that's not what you want to build for. Build in whatever style you find more interesting.

If I load 4 into a fight together, half the time it'll be roughly 3 minutes loading time or it'll be 2 minutes loading followed by a game crash lol!

DSC has released an updated version of the amazing extender pack, so I took the opportunity to swap my Brutus from brown to the new gold colour.
Oh! And here's a Blacksmith clone too...

Ohh you're right I completely forgot about the little spikes! Its hard to tell but there are 4 black 10° angle pieces facing inwards in a cross around the centre but it could do with more detail.

when i started playing with extenders tonight i was thinking about how much you could do with them as far as custom spinners now that you can intersect stuff nowadays and that nightmare blade is beyond anything i had even begun to imagine. its just beyond anything i could fathom. amazing :popcorn
Title: Re: Arcane's Showcase of Procrastination
Post by: Arcane on July 23, 2017, 06:08:47 PM
So whilst building my way through the various Battlebots competitors I have this annoying habit of starting a bot, getting irritated by something minor, and then leaving it sat there like an unfinished stain in my team selection screen. The 4 mentioned below are 4 unfinished bots that I just can't seem to get right, if anybody has any suggestions or notices anything wrong with them I'd hugely appreciate the feedback!  :heart_smiley:

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/71522Upload 6.png)
(Top Left: Stinger)
(Top Right: Skorpios Saw Blaze)
(Lower Left: Chrome Fly)
(Lower Right: Moebius)

Someone asked a while back how long it takes to load these extender heavy replicas in game, and I can safely say the load time for Moebius is about 3 times longer than all the others... it's almost entirely made out of 45 degree angle pieces.

How big is Chrome Fly? Because it looks absolutely huge.

Whoops I was hoping no one would realise how big it actually was... It's 250cm wide (going by extenders pieces) length ways it's roughly about 360/400cm.

Carrying on from the last giant spider themed bot, I've built a spider bot that actually fits under the 800.0kg heavyweight limit for a change.
Allow me to introduce Web Spinner, a symmetrical semi-spider themed overhead spinner that I wanted to be an asymmetrical spiderbody shape but gave up getting it to balance properly/within the weight limit. So instead we have what looks kind of like an upside down spider and a starfish had a freaky mutant offspring baby.

- Web Spinner (HW) & Terror Form (SHW)

Effectively in IRL, your robot has to be made as if it could be completely done in real life, so motors having supports, no weapon spam, cool looks, no motor/weapon intersection and all of that.

It'd be a great honour to see you enter tournaments, as your robots are, for lack of a better term, ****ing awesome.

To quote the building style page...
3) IRL (Most popular in: DSL, Ironforge)
Everything done has to be possible in real life, right down to weapon supports for axles.
Often subjective, and BFE etc is often allowed if it helps the realism of the robot.
Examples
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/14464dsl2_irl32.jpg)Lemonism (DSL) (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=14662.msg661720#msg661720)

This intricate IRL Dustpan is entirely possible in real life - note the support rig for the dustpan arm, motor and axle.
(http://i.gyazo.com/2bc341947129be327b1c80c9bd51226e.png)Craaig (Ironforge) (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=16522.msg653858#msg653858)

This IRL Ironforge Flipper is also entirely possible in real life, showing how extender frames can be used to great visual effect.

Of course, you're free to do whatever you want. You could event try to build robot that kill, but aren't as realistic. Or you can keep building the best extenderbots on the site. Or do everything.

ROW 2: Witch Doctor & Shaman, Hypershock, Icewave, Beta, Cobalt, Brutus, Lockjaw.
ROW 3: Ghost Raptor, Disk O'Inferno, Splatter, Overhaul, Nightmare, Blacksmith, Mega Tento, The Ringmaster.
ROW 4: Red Devil, Chrome Fly, Ultimo Destructo x2, Saw Blaze, Black Ice, Radioactive.

Seeing as Yugitom so kindly threw some nostalgia my way by uploading a picture of the actual card I stole based the original design off of, I decided to completely rebuild Drillroid in DSL 2.2. I would have posted this in my DSL showcase but, let's face it, this thing is not IRL.

At half the weight of the previous version (1950kg instead of 4500kg) Drillroid has also gained some new features...

The main body now articulates to act as a pinning weapon with the two little arms there to balance as well as being able to self right the big guy! And of course to finish it off I decided to slap a thick wedge on the front.
