Somebody's iRacing Paint Showcase
« on: November 28, 2010, 05:07:16 PM »
I recently started painting cars in iRacing. I asked someone to paint a car for me, looked pretty simple, fired up GIMP, finally figured out how to use it, and started. So far I've made $20 (people are willing to pay for the paints!). This also means that you might see me competing in future BOTMs  ;)
Here are the paints I have so far

Matthew's Mobile Media Late Model

Orange Stripe Mazda MX-5 Roadster (Made $10)

T&W Tire Late Model (Made $10 from this and the truck)

T&W Tire Truck

I'll post more as I make them

I lol'd at the racing truck. =P First one's my fave, though.

Is there any reason why they're all 64?

Way iRacing Numbers work:
In testing sessions, you automatically have the number 64 put onto your car. In practice, first people in get the first numbers. 1st in the session gets 1, second gets 2, etc. Qualifying, Racing, and Time Trials have numbers decided by ranking in terms of iRating, which is your points. determined by how you finish in races. When driving in spectator sessions (you can drive along with cars but they cannot see you, and cannot collide with your car) you do not have a number.

I was in testing running laps around Bristol Motor Speedway, which I had just bought with the money from the T&W Cars.

Mazda MX-5

Wire layer shows you what shows up where
Turn off layers for things like Wire, number/sponsor blocks, and iRacing logo when saving file for use. File must be saved as a .tga, in the size that it is when you open it. No resizing. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Oh, also, there are two sets of things in there. One of the cup and one for the roadster. They are different logos, etc. for each car. Don't leave both on when saving, pick one and stick with it. They are placed automatically in the sim on startup, those are just there so you know where they are.

Cool. BTW if my idea works, you may go sell it if you want (or keep it for yourself :) )

I don't think that it would be right to sell someone else's design, but I probably could run it. I kinda need a design for my Mazda.

3 New Paints. I was paid $20 for these, they were all for the same person, replicating Kasey Kahne's 2011 Red Bull car.

Red Bull Silverado

Red Bull Impala B

You don't really make them and then sell them, someone posts a request on the iRacing forums, and whether or not they are willing to pay. Its 25% skill/recognition and 75% getting there first.

It can be real money like through Paypal, but I have preferred to be payed in iRacing Gift Cards (real money as well), which give you iRacing Credits which you buy iRacing things with. I can extend my membership or buy tracks/cars so I can complete a series schedule or have the car to paint. One more paint and I complete the schedule for the series I am running (Late Models), and then I will probably start asking for Paypal so I get some actual cash out of it. The gift cards can be anywhere from 10-1000 dollars, so it leaves the payer the choice of what they want to pay.

Ah, racing simulators.

Nothing like watching admantium bumper cars bounce off each other.
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

They take damage, and if you crash too hard the car dies. You get 1 or no resets for your race so if you wreck too much you're out. And because people pay, there are many more serious members on there. So virtually no wreckers.
