Kurt's bots, I quite like Killjoy, Black Thunder and Drumblebee. I hope they're the right ones. Spiky wedged rammer, armourless flipper and waspy drum thing.

Close enough, and thanks.

Well, rear-hinged looks more modern but front-hinged looks more badass.

Day 2's progress

Unfortunately it doesn't look likely i'll be able to texture this properly - trying to texture the forks is a major hassle as it seems to only be do-able one face at a time.

Here's a shortcut for you. Look exactly down with the fork on the right, or look exactly sideways with the fork on the right.
If you click and drag from right to left the selection field becomes a dotted line.
If you get even the smallest amount in the dotted lines it highlights the whole face.

Once you have selected all the faces keep them highlighted and render them with the paint tool.

Helpful?

I appreciate the help but I was maybe a little unclear - I can get the texture I want as a material, and then apply that to the forks as a whole. But the texture is very small, so it tiles over the forks. What I'd like to do is select multiple faces at a time, and then resize the texture over all of them. But I only see the option to do that one face at a time.

Is the size for each face the same or does it vary depending on where it is?

I have a texture sheet that has a top, a bottom, and the sides. What i'd like to do is texture everything from the top view first. So basically apply a material and then resize it so the texture fits over the model. Currently, when I apply the material to the model it tiles, so I have the same texture repeated over the model.

When I select a single face, and right-click, in the context menu there's an option for Texture > And then a few options that allow me to resize the material so it fits. But If I select any more faces, this menu is absent. This is my problem. There is no way for me to adjust the material for the whole object, I can only do it face-by face, and for an object that has 6600+ of them, thats obviously something i'm not going to do.

3rd Update: Skirts. As a FYI, the components are separate models. It's not just one big static object, in an ideal world i'd convert them to RA2 parts.

The texture I made for the forks:

Years of skinning racing cars for games, and RA2 mainly. RA2 has the better texture work though.

I think the term is weathering, which is taking something and making it look much older/imperfect than it actually is. So for these forks, I basically took a black image, and built it up with textures and such to make it look like it's actually been used, rather than a pristine part.

Also, work big. Make it super detailed, and then scale down if needed. Much easier than taking a small image and stretching it so it's big but crap quality. Even 1024x1024 is relatively small by today's gaming standards, but for RA2 i'll scale it down to 512x512.
