I will post images of my work, hopefully it will go well creating the House Robots of Robot Wars (The House Robots have always been my biggest favorites in Robot Wars, The House Robots rules!  )

So... I'm back on this project again... after a year...

I've got a question to everyone on this forum: If you got any or alike to blueprints of the house robots of Robot Wars, please PM them to me! It will help me a lot in my recreation of those monsters.

EDIT: Will reference photos of the house robots help? I got all the Robot Wars pullback toys (except Dantomkia). Anyway, here's the link to reference images of the first one:

just curious but why do you need left and right? aren't you just going to build one side and basically symmetry it?

Not really applicable with Sir Killalot, though.

He could just make the drill separably and put it on instead of a second claw.

True. I could just make it symmetry, and then edit the second side and add the claw or lance & drill to it.

I'm sorry for not being up to date with this project, but I'm still working on Matilda's armour... not making that much progress, but I refuse to give up. I want ALL the five original house robots as finished models :)

I've actually started over this WIP, but I am indeed working on these five.

Yes... I'm not dead... two years, I know! It's crazy! But I my interests changes quite a lot, sadly... :(

But I would need plans for them, but I have already as I write this started and are now going to continue my project of Matilda :)

Just a curious question here... would it be accurate enough to use photos of my pullbacks to get the models done?

Well... starting off... ladies first! This though, an early view of what it will become. Just started the shape of the chassis of a sphere (Yes, I know the most novice beginner to 3D can do it, but nevermind...). Even though I started using 3ds Max with great interest back in 2006, when I was 15 years old, I still consider myself a beginner at 3D modeling.

This may have taken four years to kick off, but it seems that my different interests somewhat "controls" me. But my will to get this done is now stronger than ever. But enough talk, here are some images of it...

Now when the new versions of the house robots for the 2016 series has been revealed... I'm just itching to recreate those versions as 3D models instead of the old one's. So, if anybody knows where to find reference images or, even better, plans/blueprints for the new designs, I'd be delighted

I'll have to agree on that one. I've pretty much given up hope on getting plans for the new house robots... so I think I'm sticking playing the older games and focusing on the older series instead, as those are my favorite wars (1-4).

Dear community...

It makes me kind of "frightened" to see how LONG this WIP topic has existed... like, 7 years? Wow...

Anyways, I thought I would blow the dust out of this topic by saying that I AM working in Blender on a brand new model of Matilda right now! I will be making the house robots after all (no deadline set, yet...) as they appeared in 2016 to the present day.

Right now my biggest challenge is to actually model them, as Robot Wars themselves through Facebook replied to me, telling me that the plans for the house robots are highly classified...

But I won't let that stop me. I WILL be making them

I'll think about it... maybe, maybe not. It depends on how much detail I want to add to them. I want them to look as realistic as possible. I underlined possible because I am by no means a veteran in Blender. But I've used it since 2015-2016.

The tusks are now "molded".

Title: Update to the spikes on the back. (May 6, 2017)
Post by: SkullKid2000 on May 06, 2017, 11:41:16 AM
The spikes on the back received a small update. They were slightly too big, according to what I've seen on the new Matilda. So I shrunk them a bit...

So... I saw that the mesh was a bit dense... so I turned down the subdivisions on the model from 3 to 2. This halved the poly count (faces) from the 50,000 (round off from 49,572) count to approximately 20,000. (round off from 22,596). The triangles though, when subdivisions were halved, are still at 44,156.

I will hopefully take care of them today, but does it still look as bad close-up to you? I think it looks ok, because I would need that detail to give way for those craters around the lower parts of the horns. The horns themselves looks like this on close-up. Of course anything wouldn't look as detailed if you zoom in far enough, but does it look better now? I may have zoomed out too much before

Yeah, I think we're done on Robot Wars games. Unless its going to sell extremely well, typical publishers are scared about putting out something that is niche.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a couple more robotic combat games, though. Whether they are actually any good is another matter.

You're right about that. As for Robot Arena 2 - Design & Destroy, I got the psysical box right here.

Robot Arena 3/III though, I haven't played it that much... is it anything at all (from what I've heard, it's pure garbage, abomination) compared to Robot Arena 2?

Very well then... seems like the money I spent on purchasing the box of Robot Arena 2 was well spent then. Although I did indeed buy Robot Arena 3, I may be able to get a full refund for it.

EDIT: Oh, does this look better? I turned down the subdivision modifier to 1 subdivisions, and also added a "Decimate" modifier to the spikes and horns, making them less dense :)

Could you do a render shot of both versions?

I mean, if you're able to turn up subdivisions or some areas and leave the others intact, you should be good.

For instance, the horns with more subdivisions seems to work a treat. However, other areas lose a lot of their roundness due to it. If you can strike a good balance between faces and quality, that'd be great.

The wheel arches have been rounded out to give her a more organic look. Also the horns have been made not razor sharp.

Title: An update on the WIP of the house robots...
Post by: SkullKid2000 on March 19, 2018, 06:17:41 PM
So, BBC axed Robot Wars, again...

My plan now is to put the work in progress of the house robots of Robot Wars on the shelf... and start modeling one, if not the absolute deadliest house robot I know of.

I will start building on one of two house robots from Robots Live! and Extreme Robots, Major Damage or Goliath. At the moment, I consider recreating the one that is most difficult to flip of the two. As far as I know, Major Damage weighs 960 kg, and Goliath weighs 1000 kg.

Of course, size and weight is not all that matters. But the shape as well. Goliath is rather tall, and narrow. Which is why I guess is was possible to flip him. Apollo proved this. (I guess it's the same thing with Titanic vs. the iceberg and David vs. Goliath... it basically, if believed, meant that Goliath was doomed)

Major Damage, on the other hand, despite being 40 kg lighter, I think it would prove more difficult to flip him, because of his wide shape and low centre of gravity. I could be wrong, but between the two, I'd say Major Damage is more resistant to being flipped.

I have sent an e-mail to Extreme Robots and Robots Live!, asking if they are able to provide me with blueprints for Major Damage and Goliath. I wouldn't be surprised if they won't though. Still, I made a good looking model of Matilda, so why not give Major Damage, or Goliath a go?

I'll create a poll of what you people here think which I should consider to model. Major Damage, or Goliath!
Title: New vision, to build my very own house robot!
Post by: SkullKid2000 on April 01, 2018, 05:54:20 PM
Dear community,

I have come to the conclusion to shelf my Matilda WIP. I will start building my very own house robot in Blender. So far, he has (Yes, I've decided it is a "he") no name so far. I came up with a kind of strange name, that I thought was unique. In other words, I thought this name did not exist. I only happened to look up the name just for fun online. Much so, the name exists.

So, I've yet to name him. If he ever will get built in real-life (fingers crossed... but I doubt it...) he will have a low-profile, and be very wide (to deal with flippers). Goliath was weighing 1000 kg, Major Damage 960 kg. I can tell you now that mine will weigh at least more than 1000 kg, and most possibly at least 2000 kg.

I have made the decision that it will be a tracked chassis. He will most certainly have a giant claw capable of snipping off, or crushing and bending most metals, including capable of damaging hardox. The other weapon is not decided yet.

Oh, I have also noticed that GameTechMods has been invaded by flying ponies it seems...

I'm sorry I haven't kept this thread up to date, but the data is clearly lost. Sad, but true. Instead, I'm going to focus on building my very own house robot in my other, more recent thread!
Title: ... and the WIP is back to life!
Post by: SkullKid2000 on June 28, 2019, 01:17:08 PM
First the bad news... I have completely lost all the work of my Matilda WIP I was working on last year... so that WIP is... well... "axed" and now Rusting In Pieces.

The good news though is... that after more than one data loss from my USB, I am now using at least one extra USB drive as a backup. Just in case I lose all data again.

I am now planning to either rebuild all the house robots from the original series, or the reboot. I will let the community decide on what I should model, the new or old house robots.

Some time ago, I secretly started modeling on a new Matilda chassis, based on her eighth wars design from 2016 (not the white horns, as in the ninth and tenth wars in 2017). I will post renders when relevant. Now, back to modeling.

They're done. Been wanting finish them since 2010. Then the original one's was in my mind. Now, ten years later the new one's are finally done. No textures (I'm not really a texturer, but rather a modeler).

I WILL be making them
Kind of funny, this was EXACTLY three years ago now. That was when my interest to first build the new one's came to mind.
Title: The modeling process of the old one's begins!
Post by: SkullKid2000 on June 15, 2020, 08:17:32 AM
The first five, plus Refbot (Matilda, Sergeant Bash, Shunt, Dead Metal and Sir Killalot) will be easiest to make thanks to the Robot Wars games (Robot Wars Arenas of Destruction and also Robot Wars Extreme Destruction), so I'll make them first. Then onto Growler, Mr. Psycho and Cassius Chrome. And maybe... also two other less known house robots that was used after the battles... :)

Matilda's first.

Better late than never, hehe. Well, you need to open the obj file with a text editor (I use Windows 10's standard Notepad) and check the scaling of the scene right at the start. In x and y. Then you can also rotate the scene to your liking. If you know how to import the obj into Blender, then this shouldn't be a problem. Good Luck!

11 years and he's finally done it
Well, back in 2010 I was still quite new to 3D but that's also when the idea sparked into a fire to recreate the house robots. In the very beginning (2006) I started out with 3ds Max. When I found out about Blender in 2015, being a free program, I started using that instead. By 2018, I started the creation process of the new house robots. The project file of the new Matilda went lost, and so I restarted that project in late 2019, and finished all the new one's in 2020 along with the old one's.

Next I will try to put better procedurally-made materials on them. And who knows... maybe a proper introduction to the old and new one's is in place as well (maybe for YouTube ).

Fourth wars podium. I found this old render, before I messed up, and lost the ripped arena. All my robots are fine though.

Matilda. Pre series 4. Now with sharper horns and tusks for puncturing armour.

Sir Killalot with his enlarged jaws, now angled to give a razor sharp edge for cutting as well as crushing and grabbing of course.
