Robot Wars RA2 - Bot Design Challenge
« on: April 30, 2015, 05:50:45 PM »

The time has come for an awesome Robot Wars RA2 Mod competition!

What's the prize, I hear you cry? Your design, made as realistically as possible, implemented into the mod. Forever, and for everyone.

Sound like a good prize? Well. Don't let me put you off, but the rules of entry are VERY tough... he lied through his teeth.
All you have to do is send your robot idea, along with a quick sketch, your name and whether it's a feather- or heavyweight, to RobotWarsRA2@outlook.com by July 3rd. That's it.
Each person can send 1 FW and 1 HW design only.
'A quick sketch' can be a picture of ANYTHING - RA2 built, hand drawn, MS Paint, Photoshop, Sketchup/CAD, handmade model, whatever. We're not marking on the quality of sketches, but the originality of ideas.
Please send each entry in a different picture and write the descriptions/names in the email.

We'll then pick our favourite and announce it on this thread on July 6th. There will be 2 heavyweight winners and 1 featherweight winner.
We will also pick an ultimate winner from these 3 to win a 3D printed model of their entry and a Robot Wars keyring!
Good luck!

Are we allowed to send in multiple bots for one weight class at all? The rule: "Each person can send 1 FW and 1 HW design." doesn't really mean we are allowed to send only one idea each from how it's written. I got two great bot ideas in my mind right now for one weight class and It's tough to choose one or the other right now.

You can only send 1 feather and 1 heavy. Maybe I should've added the word only but I thought it was clear :P

It doesn't have to be cad, as long as it's a representation of your ideas - the key part of the entry is the description bit. So entries could be made in ra2 as representations of the description. They can also be hand drawn or whatever. As the rules say, there won't be bonus points for fancy cads above hand drawn sketches.

A submitted design can be:
An RA2 bot
A CAD model
A hand drawn sketch
A cardboard model
A tin can with wheels

It doesn't matter what it is, we're just after something community made :)

EDIT: unless it's a ripoff
don't do that pls

Hmm, I wonder if I should send in pics of one or two of my 500g Lego robots...
I... I think I've quit. Lurking and posting where I feel it's needed from time to time. I was never particularly good, but I tried. Never really succeeding, but trying all the same.

Quality doesn't matter, honestly. It's the ideas behind the drawings we're  looking at :)

Also yes rules on realism, fotepx summed it up. They have to look real.

Yeah that's why I don't like the idea of having an entry gallery until after the time period of sending stuff is over, because when you get great stuff like those CAD designs right away it can be discouraging to some people.

I agree with this. If you don't have the gallery then you won't have any complaints over "Hey, that was my idea." either.

Ditto. You don't see BOTM showing the entries that have entered once they've been submitted. It just makes it harder for someone to make something better after what they just saw.

Also, I'm surprised that NFX sent his entries first. What do you think this means? Hmm...
