Just to clarify, rejected is the wrong word. Every machine was accepted into the competition, but of course only 1 FW and 2 HW can win.
We looked for many factors. How effective the design would be in real life, how well it would translate to RA2, originality, descriptiveness (of the entry email or the picture itself), and plain coolness.
Some of my favourites didn't get into the finals and that saddens me, but that's how it goes. (Shout outs to the builders of Ram and Slam and Dysector. Awesome ideas guys.)

If they were all accepted, and only the mod team is voting on these, is there any reason why all entrants aren't being displayed? I think a lot of people would be interested to see the whole range.

We don't wish to post the whole range as we do plan further competitions along these lines and don't want to influence other entries, plus this means people can re-enter (or enter improved versions of) their designs with no consequence. Showing the finalists is a recognition of their awesome designs.
Sorry if this is a decision that some don't agree with but it's what we agreed upon as a team. Once again, I thank all entrants for their huge range of cool designs :)

That's pretty sound reasoning. You can never please everyone.

It's the internet. We're bound to reach a disagreement. Still, I can see the disappointment from good potential entries who couldn't make the cut. I guess I should stop posting in this thread.

I was just curious by what other entries we would've seen.

Long post warning...

Lads and lasses, non of the robots were rejected. It was very tight between those who qualified for the voting table and who didn't, let me explain.

To qualify, those so far successful entries have ticked all these boxes:

[] weapon system originality.
[] technically plausible in their own weight Catagory.
[] visual impression.
[] robot effectiveness.
[] technicality.

The 9 of us have went through each individual robot, (which has taken up a lot of our free time might I add) and discussed whether the robot has ticked each criteria.

Many hours later we ended up with the robots you see above. Over the next few days we'll be ignoring voting for which of those finalist are our favourites and give a vote. Which is kept confidential from eachother. And we get the results in when everyone has voted.

Each person has voted 1 FW and 1 HW, we will be giving 1 FW vote and 2 HW votes each. We're once again expecting it to be tight and hard to determine a winner, judging from the qualifying process!

And lastly we don't want to show all entries incase we hold another competition in the future. There have been quite inspiring designs and we don't want people taking each others ideas for future reference. We want to see the creators of those designs improve on what they have and come back.

I have to say I'm really surprised and greatful for all the entries. I never expected to see so many creative designs and for it to be so hard to decide on the qualifiers. I think I speak for all of us here, that were damn impressed and we'd love to see more in the future. Don't give up on it because you've either not qualified or not won, because every single person has known that they have a knack for this sorts thing. Don't give it up, make your ideas a reality!

Throughout this post I think it's decided... This has to happen again some time!

I'm struggling to think of what Random Impact Generator actually is in my head. I don't know exactly what the drawer is going for.

Congratulations to the winners!  I didn't come up with any ideas before the deadline but now that I understand better what you're looking for, I might have to give it a go if you do another.

Next contest should be an arena design challenge.
