GUIDE TO BOT OF THE MONTH (BOTM)
« on: February 02, 2018, 08:55:11 AM »
This tutorial is still a WIP. This was made due to people having different thoughts on the rules so I thought it'd be good if we could come to an agreement on some of them. This is what I have so far.

What is Bot of the Month?

Bot of the Month (BOTM) is a competition in which builders compete against each other each month to build a robot which fits a chosen theme/style. These robots are accompanied by a splash (an image around the robot) which showcases it in a certain way. The winner of the competition has their robot displayed on the front of the site.

How does BOTM work?

First, the designated host creates a topic in the "Contests" section of the forum which displays the month and year of the BOTM. Within the initial post, they'll put the theme, weight class and game that have to be built with.

Entries are then sent to the host by the due date (last day of the month, normally).

The host then puts the entries into a new topic with a poll so that they can be voted on. This poll normally lasts for a few days so that people have time to vote on the entries (people that have entered can vote and they can vote for their own entries).

The host announces the winner and an admin then updates the front page with the winner.

Rules
1. You must adhere to the rules set by the host for that month.
2. Stats of the robot need to be posted in the splash. (Armour, drive etc.) This doesn't include the weight.
3. In the voting process, don't state which your entry is. (You can guess whos others are, however).

General Tips
Make sure that the splash isn't awful. It can make or break an entry. (If you can't make a fancy splash, then just make it simple. Putting an appropriate background with some nice looking text is enough).
Make sure that the splash is large enough so that it can be seen properly.
Try and avoid common themes.

Lets say that a theme was politics. Donald Trump would be a common choice. So try to avoid him for originality sake.

If you can find a loophole then say.

I think common theme meant "common BOTM gimmicks".

WHAT IF an image, some one put a random number for a weight, a little like what i did 2 times. On the August/Feb BOTM. Why would i want to tell you more, i like loopholes .Also, i do not think any of this stuff should be required.

I can put it simply as no one exploits loop-holes except for you.Let's take this with your August/February splash, most of us can tell that you tried to pass a SuperHeavyweight as a HeavyWeight because you poorly inserted your own weight in an suspicious, unfitting black box with text that's been edited in a photo editing program. This didn't matter in the later BOTM since there was no weight limit, but in former BOTM, 09 spotted this and didn't put your entry up in the voting, since you lied about the weight of your bot. So, I really doubt that anyone else will try to be dishonest in lying in their bot's weight. It's possible that this can happen, but when someone does find out then something will happen.

They should prove there weight if it is questioned. And someone could just slightly modify the weight in the files of the game. It aint hard.

It's easy to modify the weight in the bot file, but there are ways how users can tell that a person is lying about their bot's weight. Let's say that you bot has Steel 5 armor, 4 NPC drive with Vald wheels, and a beta burst for the weapon and you try and pass it as a lightweight or middleweight when it's actually a Heavyweight. We can tell that you're lying about your bot's weight. End of Story.

They can also put anti ballasts.  lets not argue on the main forum, if we disagree, we can move to the PM so we wont get warned

unless it's blatantly obvious that your bot is not the proper weight class, who really cares? most people won't lie about their bot's weight to win a botm

i dont understand why you feel the need to dig for pointless loopholes. all it does is aggravate people
