Title: The GTM Armoury
Post by: Incredirobotwars on August 20, 2012, 07:26:27 PM
Basically, I've been talking to a few people recently, and weapons seem to be a recurring topic of conversation. I couldn't find any thread for discussing this, so...this exists now.

I've been considering ordering a sword. More specifically the 'Dark Sentinel':

But, you know, guns are welcome, too.

Well, we shall see. I think they need to make a new game for the next-gen console, that has more original ideas.

I think they'll be able to- the screencap of Zelda WiiU certainly looks promising enough, but we'll have to see what Ninty can do from there. As long as they bring back the Hookshot, that'd certainly be good.

No, it is just craaig attempting to look just as cool and badass as me. I know he's jealous :P

Besides from my fists, which are both literally and figuratively the manliest weapon ever, I also have a shortstaff and I think our family had an old, rusted sword somewhere. Dunno where it is.

I would also like to try archery because it's one of the manliest ways to kill an opponent at distance (killing in melee is manlier though)

I agree, I would also like to try archery. But having a sword or war-axe is even manlier.

M14 vs M16 - Discuss.
M14 is more cool. But the M16 replaced the M14. The M16 fired the NATO 5.56mm round, so was compatible with our allies (assuming you're American). The M14's springs in the magazines rusted. You could fire and carry more ammunition with the M16. The M14 is much more unwieldy than the M16, but its 7.62mm rounds offered more stopping power and far better penetration through cover. The M16 uses STANAG magazines so is more modular with our allies' assault rifles...

Anything else?

The good thing about those types of shields is that they're easy to manouver- ergo easy to move around if he keeps changing the direction he tries to hit in. Knowing him, he'd probably be all "YAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH BASH HIM HE INSULTED CHAOS IN THE TORPEDO", so he'd be fairly easy to stop and counter-attack.

Depends how much force is behind the blow. Even if the shield is good quality, your arm is still gonna recieve the force from the blow, but the shield will deflect the actual object.

Just hope that he's not too strong.

Nah. To me, knives are the coward's weapon. And even then, with different sets of things from different eras, it's comparing apples and oranges- of course a decent gun's going to beat medieval-based weaponry.

Most certainly, guns are pragmatic and efficient (Except when you're out of ammo, have the wrong ammo, etc). And a coward would run and hide rather than use a gun.

Still... Manly men use melee weapons.

Besides, it certainly doesn't have the same feel to crush an opponent with your fists/melee than with a gun.

Also swordfights are cooler and more dramatic. You know it.

I made a flame thrower once. It was a direct flow of the bottle with a bernzOmatic propane torch to light it, remote controlled too. Sadly I don't have any pictures but I might make it again...

I also have a $40 BB gun I shoot rabbits and squirrels with. My dad's got a real gun but I can't remember what it is at the moment.

For Primary Weapons, I'm wondering if I'm the only one who likes the idea of a Flamethrower.
Bitch.

Please.

I don't need a Primary, I'm a spy.  :laughing

Typing that whilst cowering under your bed, then?   :coolface

It may explode on you...
Indeed a risk, but it'd definitely be cut with a bulletproof fuel tank.

I made a flame thrower once. It was a direct flow of the bottle with a bernzOmatic propane torch to light it, remote controlled too. Sadly I don't have any pictures but I might make it again...
Coolio. Maybe a smaller-scale Flamethrower could be a weapon to consider for a future robot- they're always very popular with the audience.

and don't the bullsh** argument only cowards use guns cos that's a lie, smart and practical people use guns and this is coming from a guy who play D&D religiously.
Nah. To me, knives are the coward's weapon. And even then, with different sets of things from different eras, it's comparing apples and oranges- of course a decent gun's going to beat medieval-based weaponry.

YER + Dead Ringer Spy strikes again!

If I were picking a melee weapon, an Estoc or a Schweitzer (I think that's what it's called) would serve me well.

On the other hand, if I were picking a firearm, can't go wrong with an AK-47.

Apart from it's horrible inaccuracy and recoil?

Plus ridiculously heavy ammo.

True, but that can be offset by the fact that it's a much more powerful and penetrative round, in comparison with the 5.56mm.

Yeah, but if you can only carry a third of the AK-47 ammo...that doesn't really make up for it.

But to take the logic in the other direction, why not carry thousands of BBs in high-cap magazines? I'm sure that would send the enemy packing.

Only if you can fire them at a high enough rate to deal the same firepower in the same timeframe.

...as in, minigun-fast.

I've got one of these in the greenhouse-

I'm sure I could rig up a catapult if necessary. Or just a strong push into it should do the trick :P

Now, Marty... It's not his fault that he doesn't know that cacti don't need much water.

I remember you accidentally cutting yourself on that thing whilst I was there :/

I myself don't have much in the way of weapons. I usually use just my feet, my fists or my nails (which can actually cut people, and have done before)

Indeed- I'd forgotten how sharp the bloody thing was. Still, it's healed now.

That's 50 functions in a Swiss Army Knife. Seriously.
