Title: Robot Arena 2's Civil War
Post by: HurricaneAndrew on February 01, 2011, 05:29:50 PM
I was browsing GTM and the song "Civil War" by Guns N' Roses started playing on my iPod. Knowing it is a rather awesome song, I began thinking of ways I could use it for an RA2 video. That idea didn't develop into much, but then I started thinking about what I have heard about RA2's official boards and GTM back when it was new and here is the conclusion I came to...

If you look back, RA2 has been through it's own civil war. When the official boards were around, they were all about stock RA2 and when GTM first came on to the scene, it was all about DSL, right? The way I see it, the official boards were the Confederacy and GTM was the Union. Now before ACAMS starts having a fit, I will explain. The official boards were (mostly) the old fashioned folk that liked stock and didn't really need a new mod to be happy (much like the confederacy wanted things to stay the same that they had been for hundreds of years), whilst GTM wanted to change things up a bit (much like the Union wanted to change the laws on slavery).

Now, we all know which side came out on top, but if you were around in the days of RA2's "Civil War", what side would you have taken? Even if you were around at that point, what side were you on?

I may be completely wrong on my facts here, but it made sense in my head. I just figured I would share it.

Not sure which side I would be on because it would depend on what I was known for as a builder and what I thought I was good at.

Your history is all wrong. DSL was widely accepted on the old official forums. The "civil war" was between the RA community and the AceUplink community. I sided with the official forums.

Well if the war is Stock vs DSL, ATM I would be Stock because I play it more right now.

2 + 2 = 4
0 / 4 = 0
DSL > Stock

Simple math. :P

Then there was Technex vs the official forums, and Megavolt vs the World, and LRA2 vs everyone else......

Old forums were 10x more fun. Dunno why. Maybe it was because everyone was better than me.

and its not like the official forum even had a chance to stay alive, it just got full on deleted without us even having a say.

Yeah, the Official forum vs GTM's was closer to your buddy's house burnt down, so you invited him to live with you so he didn't become a greasy hobo. Hardly a civil war...

But still, the idea sounds kinda cool. Most of the vets here would've been on both sides though.

As usual, DSL beats Stock.

Maybe it was because everyone was better than me.
Not true.
My old stock-bots were just terrible.
...Except for like 5

The RP threads are dying, only story time is posted in.

There are some members that don't even build anymore, they just post in RPG threads.

I liked the old forums quite a bit.  When it got shut down by Atari (or whoever) I was really bummed out and didn't like the changeover to GTM.  Frankly, I considered just giving up and dropping the game/community altogether.  (and quite a few members did that actually)

But, gotta praise ACAMS here, he has done a great job listening to our feedback and making adjustments to the forum.  GTM now is waaaaaay better than it was back then.

Frezal is right, the true war was between the Aceuplink vs official forum.  That was quite a war from what I have heard.

Stock vs DSL? I'm on the DSL side... stock lost its fun for me when stacking became an artform.

Heh. No biggie. I am still happy with my "advanced user".   :D   Vet status will come around whenever, my fault for missing out when noms were made.

to bad people don't get promoted because they came from the old RA2 boards. =P

as for the whole Stock vs DSL thing... i'm with DSL. i dislike unrealistic building and that is exactly what Stock is.
