One Minute Build-Off
« on: March 29, 2018, 12:20:55 AM »
As I'm slowly getting my life back on track, I'm in a good shape to be part of the community.  (First off, thank you guys so much for your supports)  I had this idea and I'm not sure if it has been done before.  What if I host a tournament, after figuring out how to AI the bots which I may need some help with, with the requirement that you must record yourself building a robot in one minute.  Weight class will probably be middle or heavyweight, and FIRE style.  The minute doesn't include the wiring session, just the building.

(Changing rules as I go)

Rules:
Middle or Heavy weight.
FIRE or DSL-S.  No cheatbots.
Component freedom is allowed.  IRL packs is allowed.
The robot must be recorded with a timer on screen being built in 5 minutes, not including the wiring process.
Uuhhh... I may forget something important.... help me out with this.

Sooo... what ya think?

It's gonna be basically impossible to prevent cheating through sped up footage or splicing, and I think 1 minute is very strict, basically impossible if you include chassis creation. That being said, the idea is kinda similar to the RA2 speedrun thing I came up with a while ago with the help of a few people. Could be interesting.

I had something similar in mind once. But yeah 5 minutes should be the minimum.
Also whats the fire rule?

Made a minor changes as I go.  1 minute isn't enough so I'm changing it to 5 minutes.  It starts as soon as you enter the chassis build.  After the time is up, you can then add in skin, wiring, etc, but you cannot go back and edit something within the chassis.  We'll probably start small with 8 or if enough interest then 16 so I can figure out the ai-ing and tournament set up.

As far as FIRE (f*ck it, real enough), it was something to help out since I kinda want to use the IRL style, but I know that takes time.  It was something to ease up on the IRL rule.  DSL-standard is a possibility.  I'm a bit iffy on stock.  I don't mind doing it with stock if everyone wants it, but it'll have to be no spamming weapons.  Don't want another popup meta.

I really like this idea for a tourney. It would probs have to be 5 mins especially if the time creating the chassis is included. My opinion on meta would probably have to be something simple like Stock or IF. The timer issue could probably be solved by having the game not be in fullscreen and have a standardized timer such as the timer on timeanddate.com placed to the side of the game on the desktop while recording.
